The Sloshing Machine is a main weapon in the Splatoon series.

The Sloshing Machine launches a small mortar-like glob that is trailed by a vortex of ink. The glob leaves a path of ink while it travels, and bursts on contact with a surface or an enemy. Most notably, the vortex of ink allows the Sloshing Machine to do splash damage to enemies alongside the glob of ink if a direct hit is not landed.

The Sloshing Machine's splash damage allows it to fulfill roles similar to that of a blaster. More specifically, it is very similar to the Rapid Blaster concerning splash damage, direct damage, range, and speed. However, unlike blaster weapons which have a large exploding splash radius at their maximum reach, the Sloshing Machine will deal splash damage to anything alongside the glob as it travels. Additionally, the heavy arc of the projectile makes the weapon ideal for dealing with enemies behind cover, or enemies atop a platform, like the tower in Tower Control. These capabilities, however, come at the cost of lower attack-speed and turf coverage when compared to more traditional sloshers.

Appearance

The Sloshing Machine is a small, cream-colored washing machine. It has two handles, one on the bottom and one on the top, both of which change color to match the user's ink, along with the bottom section.

In Splatoon 3, the upper section of the Sloshing Machine now entirely changes ink color while the bottom section, including the handle, are now cream-colored. The rim at the top is thicker, and the inside of the weapon has been slightly changed. On the side, four small suction cups have been added to each corner of the weapon.

Sheldon's Introduction

An innovative new weapon that puts a "spin" on the classic Slosher model. The Sloshing Machine is sure to make your whites whiter than white and your turf inkier than inked! This weapon's attractions are the power of the main shot and the bonus ink flung out by the vortex. The Splat Bombs and Bomb Rush combine to send the battlefield into a whirlpool of confusion!(NA/EU/OC)[a]

A compact washing machine that's been adapted for battle. The spinning action means that the area around the ink glob also gets a dose of ink.

The Sloshing Machine is basically your normal everyday washing machine...except it fires twisting volleys of beautiful, messy ink! The spiraling ink volleys provide solid attack power and leave a trail of ink in their wake. Smoke out dirty campers with the Autobombs, and splat them off the map! If they survive that, you can hunt them down with the Sting Ray! This set is perfect for splatting like a wild child and drowning the battlefield in a whirlwind of ink!

The Sloshing Machine returns in Splatoon 3 with a new design. The color scheme has been swapped, and it has a new metal rim at the front. Its special is the Booyah Bomb but in prerelease material and on a Tableturf Battle card it was seen with the Killer Wail 5.1. Its sub is the Fizzy Bomb.

It appears in three missions in Alterna:

Data

  • The Sloshing Machine is a middleweight weapon.
  • The matchmaking range is 14.7. The game's matchmaking system looks at a team's average matchmaking range value, and matches them against a team with a similar average.
  • The ink consumption of 9.2% per shot allows the user to fire 10 times on a full ink tank.
  • After firing, there is a 42 frame cooldown before ink starts refilling.
  • When initially attacking in humanoid form, the first shot takes 12 frames to come out.
  • When initially attacking from swim form, the first shot takes 18 frames to come out.
  • The movement speed while firing is set to 0.07 units per frame.
  • The time between consecutive swings is 38 frames.
  • The interval between firing and being able to enter swim form or use a sub weapon is 20 frames.
  • The effective range is about 12.82 units while grounded and 12.67 while airborne.
    • This is the distance in which the crosshair will change shape when looking at an opponent and is otherwise arbitrary since sloshers do not use traditional falloff mechanics.

Central ink glob

  • The group consists of only 1 projectile.
  • The group starts spawning as soon as the lifting animation ends.
  • The projectile spawns with an initial speed of 1.4737 units per frame while grounded, and 1.4563 units per frame while airborne. It flies straight at this speed for 5 frames.
    • After this, the velocity is set to 10.0 units per frame if it is not already below this number, and decreases by 10% every frame, including the first frame in which it stops flying straight. Once the shot velocity decreases below a certain threshold, it will begin to be slowed more and fall faster.
  • The projectile deals 76 damage.
    • Damage falloff starts when a projectile falls 1.5 units below its initial spawning point. It will lose damage the further it falls until it has fallen to 8.5 units below its spawning point, at which point it will deal 52 damage.
  • The projectile spawns with an initial collision radius of 0.025 units for players and 0.01 units for the stage. After 5 frames, the collision radius for players changes to 0.25 units, and after 4 frames, the collision radius for the stage changes to 0.1 units.

Ink spiral

  • The group contains 4 projectiles that spawn consecutively 2 frames apart from each other.
  • The group starts spawning 1 frames after the lifting animation ends.
  • The first projectile spawns with an initial speed of 1.4737 units per frame while grounded, and 1.4563 units per frame while airborne.
    • Each subsequent projectile spawns with an initial speed that is 0 units per frame slower than the last.
  • The projectiles deal 38 damage.
    • The damage is not reduced by the projectile falling.
  • The first projectile spawns with an initial collision radius of 0.047 units for players and 0.0 units for the stage. After 5 frames, the collision radius for players changes to 0.47 units, and after 4 frames, the collision radius for the stage changes to 0.0 units.
    • For subsequent projectiles, the initial collision radius is 0.047 units larger than the previous projectile for players, and 0 units smaller for the stage. After the collision size changes, the radius is 0.47 units larger than the previous projectile for players, and 0 units smaller for the stage.

  • Points to fill special gauge: 200 → 210.
2.1.0
  • Increased ink consumption by about 10%: 8.4% → 9.2%.
  • Points to fill special gauge: 210 → 220.

Sheldon's Introduction

The Sloshing Machine is like a washing machine... but for getting everything filthy with ink! Each volley of beautiful, twisting ink hits its target with plenty of power and leaves a sloppy mess everywhere. It's great for covering plenty of turf. Try using Fizzy Bombs to contain the other team's movement while you dial the Sloshing Machine up to the max. The other team will be in a spin cycle before you know it! And don't forget about your Booyah Bombs - another tool in your quest to make a mess-terpiece of the field. By now it should be clear... this set is NOT for neat freaks.
