Baby Chicks vs. Li'l Bunnies vs. Bear Cubs, also known as SpringFest, was a seasonal special Splatfest in Splatoon 3. It was announced on social networks on 19 February 2024,[1][2] with the theme and date later being announced on 5 April 2024.
Details

As a special Splatfest, SpringFest is accompanied by several cosmetic changes to the game, as well as new gear:
- Splatsville, Inkopolis Plaza, and Inkopolis Square are decorated with a spring theme. These decorations include flowers, artificial cherry trees, paper parasols, Easter eggs, colorful Moai statues, streamers, pennants, and a statue of a cartoon tuna mascot seen in various other locations throughout the game. The egg held by the chicken statue in Splatsville is repainted to resemble an Easter egg, while the pig statue wears an Easter egg hat. The kitsune and tanuki statues in Inkopolis Plaza are wearing flower crowns. Various structures in Inkopolis Square, including the origami crane and tortoise statues in Inkopolis Plaza, are covered in a fluorescent ooze that shifts between the colors of the three teams, similar to all special Splatfests in Splatoon 2. Bubbles drift through the air in all three hubs, and the sky is colored with a pink-light peach gradient.
- The camera angle for the title screen is modified in certain hubs. Inkopolis Square, for example, depicts the Galleria instead of Deca Tower.
- In the lobby, translucent stickers shaped like fish and Easter eggs appear when the floor and wall are inked.
- Deep Cut, the Squid Sisters, and Off the Hook wear special outfits.
- Shiver's eyebrows and hair change to light green, the latter having a gradient to teal towards the tips. She wears a pink sakura earring in place of her usual ones, and a sakura crown in place of her headband. Her shawl has a teal-to-pink gradient, and a large, aqua flower-shaped pendant with white dots in the center and dark green tassels instead of her usual one. Her legwear also fades from teal to pink from her pants to her shoes, which have pink soles. Furthermore, her fingertips are colored aqua.
- Frye's hair, eyelashes, eyebrows, and pants all feature a pink-to-aqua gradient; she also wears red lipstick. Her top and shawl both change to coral red, and the squid-shaped clip on her belt is replaced with a large white floral one with pink polka-dots. Her earrings and hairpiece are replaced with new ones styled after hanami dango; her fingertips and toe tips are colored pink.
- Big Man's body sheen has a teal-to-pink gradient. He has two red circles painted on his cheeks resembling blush marks, and his usual headpiece is replaced with a large one made of three green flowers with pink dots connected with lines painted on the insides; the rope hanging from it is also pink.
- Callie and Marie wear pastel versions of their normal outfits, with both of them having several accents in the opposite's color. Callie wears a pastel pink romper with all her usually white accessories colored aqua, while Marie wears a pastel green dress, with all her usually white accessories colored pink. Both of them wear striped tights; Callie's usual headpiece is replaced with an aqua Easter egg shell (though it retains the leaf underneath) while Marie's is replaced with a green one, both with pink markings. Callie's boots are recolored pink with aqua highlights, and Marie's are recolored green with pink highlights. Callie has an aqua flower mark painted on her right cheek, while Marie has a lime green one on her left.
- Pearl wears a Gothic metal-inspired outfit with a spiky dark purple crown and studded collar alongside her usual gloves, and a long, low-cut black T-shirt with a white design that represents an Inkling and an Octoling's tentacles side by side. The straps of her top are visible over her otherwise bare shoulders. She wears fishnet stockings over black pantyhose, and high platform boots with chains wrapped around the ankles and skull designs on the tongues. The tips of Pearl's tentacles feature pastel green spots.
- Marina wears a pair of headphones with a wire-mesh pattern on the ears, a white sporty bralette, and a black mesh garment on top of it, covering her neck and the top of her cleavage, and reaching down to the middle and ring fingers of her hands. She wears long white hip-hop pants with plain black ankle boots, and her tentacles take on a sea green-to-pink gradient. Her fingertips and navel piercing are colored purple.
- Characters in the cities and lobby such as Jellyfish, Staff, Judd, Murch, and Smallfry all wear pastel green, pastel pink, and aqua party hats decorated with various patterns.
- A special news article in the Nintendo Switch news rewards players with four unique pieces of headgear and nine unique pairs of shoes:
- Music is added or modified for the Splatfest.
- A special progressive pop song, Meadowlark, plays in the lobby instead of Soak & Stomp. Crab-N-Go also plays a unique circus-style theme.
- The title screen has a new sound, along with the Deep Cut intro.
- Anarchy Poisons is modified for the Splatfest to add xylophones and a jaw harp.
- Anarchy Rainbow is given an Irish-styled arrangement.
- Opening is modified to add xylophones, bagpipes, and fiddles.
- Ego Overboard and Still Swimmin' are remixed with a "bouncier" theme, with Ego Overboard played in swing time and featuring additional vocals from Big Man.
- The start of a battle is modified with bubbles appearing in the center of the screen. Bubbles also fill the air during the first few seconds of a match.
- This Splatfest has a special ink variant, with flecks in the other teams' colors resembling confetti or sprinkles being mixed in. This ink effect is not applied during mirror matches with the same team.
- The TV screens in Splatsville display unique videos related to the spring theme of the Splatfest.
The Tricolor Turf War stage for this Splatfest was Mahi-Mahi Resort.

Muriël![]() “Het geluk is door onze pootjes geglipt...” (Our good luck has slipped through our little paws...) |
|
Notes: Shiver makes a reference to the Dutch nursery rhyme ik zag twee beren; it is about animals, originally only about bears, doing the impossible.
Ray![]() “Ay! (Ik ben beretrots dat de berenwelpen zo uitgeslapen aan de lente zijn begonnen!)” (Ay! (I am super proud that the bear whelps have begun spring so well-rested!)) |
||
Notes: The intensifying adjectival prefix bere is a pun on beren ("bears").
Haya “Team Kuikentje krijgt van mij ook een pluim, omdat ze er als de kippen bij waren!” (Team Little Chick gets praise from me too, because they were all over it!) |
Muriël “Met iets minder wortel schieten had Team Babykonijn ook best kans gemaakt.” (With somewhat less waiting and seeing, Team Baby Rabbit would have made quite a chance too.) |
|
Notes: Pluim is a pun in that it also means "plume", and the phrase als de kippen bij zijn is a pun on kippen ("chickens"). Wortel schieten is a pun on "carrot", stereotypically a rabbit's favorite food.
Ray![]() “Ay... (Ik heb nog steeds het gevoel dat ik eerder een soort berenwelp heb gezien...)” (Ay... (I still have the feeling I have seen a sort of bear whelp before...)) |
||

Ray![]() “Ay. Ay! (Ja, die lijkt er wel op. Zijn oren zijn anders, maar... ik denk dat je gelijk hebt!)” (Ay. Ay! (Yes, they do look like it. His ears are different, but... I think you are right!)) |
|
Ray![]() “Ay! Ay. (Fijn dat dat is opgelost! Dan leidt me dat niet meer af als ik zo ga klussen.)” (Ay! Ay. (Glad that is sorted! Then that won't distract me anymore when I am going to do shifts in a minute.)) |
||
Muriël![]() “O, ga je ook klussen? Zin om samen te werken?” (Oh, you are going to do shifts too? Feel like working together?) |
||
Ray![]() “Ay... Ay! (Ja, ik wil best samen een klus bij Beer & Co... pro...beren... Wacht eens even!)” (Ay... Ay! (Yes, I wouldn't mind trying a shift together at Grizzco... Wait a minute!)) |
||
Notes: Big Man makes a pun on beren ("bears").
Haya![]() “AAAH! Onze tijd zit erop voor dit onderwerp! Heel jammer, maar we moeten door!” (AAAH! Our time for this topic is up! I am very sorry, but we have to move on!) |

Trivia

- This Splatfest is the fourth special Splatfest in Splatoon 3.
- It is also the third Splatfest event to cosmetically alter the hub, following Splatoween and FrostyFest.
- The initial announcement of this Splatfest on the Splatoon NA Twitter featured an image with a different question compared to other English-language announcements (see 'Artwork' above). The in-game announcement for North America later featured the same wording as the prior Europe and Oceania announcements.
- SpringFest is the first special Splatfest theme in Splatoon 3 that Off the Hook was present for.
- Off the Hook's outfits for the SpringFest are directly based on concept artwork for their Splatoon 3 designs, visible in The Art of Splatoon 3.
- The headpieces Shiver and Frye wear may be a reference to Flowers vs. Dumplings, a Splatfest from Splatoon 2 featuring similar colors and theming.
- Promotional screenshots posted on Twitter before the Splatfest showed Shiver, Callie, and Marie simply wearing green and pink versions of their usual outfits, instead of the ones they were confirmed to wear at the Splatfest's announcement on April 5. Furthermore, the Splatfest Tee of the Inkling in the foreground of the same screenshot as Shiver has an egg design on the front instead of the Li'l Bunnies icon, possibly to avoid spoilers. The Splatfest Tees shown in the promotional picture of the newly arriving gear lack team icons altogether.
- In announcement dialogue, Big Man begins to state that the bear illustration seems familiar, before being interrupted by Shiver's dismayed plea to "[not] finish that thought". This is an allusion to Mr. Grizz and the finale of Return of the Mammalians.
- When the Splatfest results were announced on the SplatoonNA Twitter, the image used has various errors, such as an incorrect background color, the team icons not appearing in order, and Team Baby Chicks and Bear Cubs icons appearing to be of lower quality. The image posted by NintendoEurope does not have the same errors, although it is missing the pattern in the background.
- The Tricolor results for Team Baby Chicks and Team Li'l Bunnies had a 0.01% difference, which is the smallest possible percentage difference in any of the result categories across all Splatfests.
- Prior to this, the closest difference was in the halftime report for Shiver vs. Frye vs. Big Man, as Team Frye and Team Big Man had a 0.02% difference.
- Additionally, the Pro results had a 0.15% difference between Team Baby Chicks and Team Bear Cubs, which is currently the smallest percentage difference for said category in Splatoon 3.
