Cash is the main multiplayer currency in Splatoon and Splatoon 2. It is mainly used to purchase gear, such as weapons or clothing, from the shops in Booyah Base (Splatoon) and the Galleria (Splatoon 2). Spyke and Murch have different services that require cash, such as rerolling Ability and scrubbing secondary ability slots. Players can also order gear that other players in their Inkopolis Plaza or Inkopolis Square are wearing and can pick it up the next day from Spyke or Murch at a price that depends on the rarity of the gear and the amount of unlocked slots on it. Cash can be obtained through multiplayer battles such as Turf War and Ranked Battle, through Salmon Run (Splatoon 2 only), from the vending machine in Deepsea Metro (Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion only), from Judd for the player's vibe as well as through winning amiibo challenges, the latter two are only available options in Splatoon.

Each stage rotation, the player is able to turn in their Vibe points earned via online battles to Judd in Inkopolis Plaza for a cash bonus. Gear bought with Cash can only be used in multiplayer battles. Octo Valley and Octo Canyon have their own Power Egg currency that is used to unlock or upgrade Singleplayer gear and weapons as well as purchase drink tickets (Splatoon 2 only) after all upgrades are unlocked. The Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion also has its own currency in the form of CQ Points, which can be used to enter test stations and get items and cash from the vending machine that becomes available once the player returns to Deepsea Metro after completing the story of the expansion.
