Template:InfoboxMission/OctoExpansion Coccyx Phase is the first stage in the Octo Expansion's finale.

Gameplay

The player must guide Agent 8 past a series of Sanitized Octarians without being seen, as the player has no weapon. If seen by a Sanitized Octarian, the player will be quickly surrounded by additional enemies and must escape immediately to avoid being splatted.

If the player gets repeatedly splatted, they have the option to skip this phase, with each splat contributing to 20% Skip Charge, where the following dialogue will be displayed:

"Agent 8 was able to keep out of sight and sneak past the enemies..."

Enemies! Submerge and sneak by.

No more ink! Wait until their backs are turned, and then go!
Enemy ink is quite the obstacle...
Phew... By the way, how's it goin' over there, old man?
No weapon... This is a toughie.
NICE!
This is way too stressful... Stay vigilant and head for the surface!
You weren't seen at all! Keep it up and head for the surface!
— When the player makes it through the entire level without being seen.

Trivia

  • This phase shares many similarities with the Metal Gear Solid series, such as similar stealth mechanics and the dialogue presented if Agent 8 is splatted, though these similarities may be coincidental. However, it is worth noting that Jordan Amaro, one of the designers for the Octo Expansion, has previously worked on Metal Gear Solid V and stated he placed a homage to the series on his Twitter account. His name in the credits also bears a strong resemblance to the font used for the original Metal Gear Solid logo.
