Fly Octo Fly is a song performed by Off the Hook.

Description

Fly Octo Fly is a fast-paced and somewhat manic pop song played during the final boss battle of the Octo Expansion. Lasting almost exactly two minutes, the song draws heavily from the instrumental TEST PASSED! and Thang Obtained jingles, adding lyrics to both and combining them into one song.

After a short introduction, Marina sings a verse based on TEST PASSED!, followed by Pearl before Marina continues with a slower and more intense version of Thang Obtained as the chorus. After this, Pearl raps a section, then one final chorus and a more intense verse are sung. At the two-minute mark, the song cuts out to be replaced by Ebb & Flow (Octo) for the final minute of the battle. In-game, the two songs are included as one track by the name of Fly Octo Fly ~ Ebb & Flow (Octo). However, it is separated from Ebb & Flow (Octo) in the Octotune album.

Lyrics

The booklet included with Octotune gives the official lyrics for Fly Octo Fly. The lyrics are nonsensical; the Japanese hiragana and katakana simply give the pronunciation. According to a Famitsu interview,[1] the former is used to indicate Pearl's lyrics in Inkling language, whereas the latter is used to indicate Marina's lyrics in Octoling language.

Other versions

Fly Octo Fly (Live)

During live concerts starring only Off the Hook, a slightly extended version of Fly Octo Fly is used. Although each performance is different due to the live bands, they retain the same strong structure. The track opens with Marina singing the song's main chant to the audience, with them repeating it and Pearl interjecting, for around thirty seconds before the normal start of the song. The rest of the song is performed as normal, but with an outro and ending given to the song to finish.

Etymology

Fly Octo Fly refers to Agent 8's battle on the NILS Statue and their need to circle around it quickly several times to completely disarm it, ending in midair on grind rails.
