Problem with notifications

Hi, I joined the wiki 6 months ago, but no matter what I do, the "Welcome to Inkipedia, ‪Untitled-1‬! We're glad you're here." notification won't go away! What do I do? --Untitled-1 (talk) 20:09, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

The Problem With Signatures

Why do the signatures always have to be either a link to your user page, or a clever nickname for your username? Can't you use your username in actual Splatoon or whatever? SquiddyGirlTalk 21:32, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

Mass upload of Maps in Splatoon 2 from Zorg's Mega folder

Zorg has taken captures of maps with the help of some friends and they are stored inside a Mega zip folder. Now inorder for it to be seen by the public, they need to be uploaded to the wiki. They are all same size, standard HD, 1920x1080, and uniform since that's how splatoon's own spectator camera works. My main concern is the sides of the images that are just taking space in the image. You can see an example of it in Arowana Mall where I put the old and the new images side by side. Should we keep the old ones or upload the new ones who have unnecessary sides? I'm of course a bit biased, but my own reasoning for my opinion to keeping them as they are is, as Shahar said above, consistency; that being how the in-game spectator camera gives the view, and that all images would be the same dimensions. (And no, resizing the cropped versions back to HD size would mean the quality of it would be worse.) The only discrepancy i can see is that the scale of separate stages aren't uniform. Alternatively, i could argue usage of these as a standard image-set for those who'd want to utilize these for their own, like pro teams for overlaying callout data or strategies for example... even if that would imply they'd know about the existence of these in the first place. --Zorg (talk) 15:33, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

I prefer the cropped versions a little more, only because they make the actual "map" a little easier to see on the page itself. With the widescreen versions, a large portion of the map is occupied by empty space, making the actual map a good bit harder to see in the thumbnail! We could increase the thumbnail size, though I think the ones we have already might be a little better. That being said, I'm fine with the full view for the top-down photos. Fan-Made Articles And Fanon Users

At the time of writing this, a few pages have been created on the wiki for fan-fiction such as this one. I've also seen several users that only edits have been to Fanon pages. So like... is there no plan to translate the Splatocalypse dialogue from Japanese?

I write about Splatoon theory content for YouTube and run a fandom blog, I found a translation of the announce dialogue but I've been hoping for a while now that you'd translate the post-Fest dialogue and it still hasn't happened.

Japanese Splatfest Names

Alright, so with Version 5.0.0 now out, I figured I'd check the ink color names for all the Splatfests, and I noticed that some of them have had their names changed. Save for Hello Kitty vs. Cinnamoroll and My Melody vs. Pompompurin, all the sponsored Splatfests have more generic names. However, aside from those, a handful of Japanese Splatfests have different translated names:

• Agility vs. Endurance is now Dexterity vs. Endurance
• With Lemon vs. Without Lemon is now Lemon vs. No Lemon
• Warm Inner Wear vs. Warm Outer Wear is now Inner Wear vs. Outer Wear
• Flower vs. Dumpling is now Hana vs. Dango
• Latest Model vs. Popular Model is now Newest vs. Most Popular
• Unknown Creature vs. Advanced Technology is now New Lifeform vs. Future Tech
• and Without Pineapple vs. With Pineapple is now Pineapple vs. No Pineapple (the teams are backwards!)

My question is: do we rename the pages on these Splatfests to match what are likely their official dub names? Or do we keep them as-is? Especially the pineapple one, do we do "No Pineapple vs. Pineapple"? Just want to ask in advance! ShinyCelesteela (talk) 08:44, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

Alright, so this seems to be pretty universally agreed on! Nice! Obviously I was gonna skip the sponsored ones, since they affect the English Splatfests as well (see Ninja Red vs. Ninja Blue) but one more question before we implement this! Do we rename Without Pineapple vs. With Pineapple to "No Pineapple vs. Pineapple" instead of the other way around, since those are the official team names even if they are given in the wrong order? That Splatfest is called something like "Joyous Green vs. Festive Yellow" in English. However, the Pocky Splatfest was not changed to be generic in Spanish ("Pocky vs. Pocky GOKUBOSO"). Hadamsj (talk) 09:12, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi! Since I've been the one doing most of these "bad" translations (I think they're pretty good, hmph! Thanks a lot Nintendo of America >=( ). I'll make sure to fix the ones that are just a different translation (e.g. Agility / Dexterity). I also agree that the ones that are de-branded (Pocky, Meiji, TMNT) should keep the same name. As for the pineapple one, the official names change, but the order should be the same as presented in the Splatfest. I'm a bit busy with non-squid things today and tomorrow, but I'll do my best to fix it all over the weekend (and make redirects where applicable). Thanks for your patience! Inkopolis Memorial Mixtape

So apparently (at least according to OatmealDome on YT/Twitter) in the Japan-exclusive Off the Hook Live CD there is a special song called Inkopolis Memorial Mixtape that features many different songs from the Splatoon franchise remixed together by DJ Octavio. The thing is, most people already refer to the track heard during the Final Fest announcement trailer as the Inkopolis Memorial Mixtape instead, and I don't know how exactly we're going to differentiate the two. But I think the mixtapes should get their own section on the heard songs' pages (or maybe even its own page) as some of the mixtape versions sound really different from the original version (new sound effects, altered endings for transitions, added vocals, etc), and if we are going to do that we're probably going to need to find a way to not get them mixed up with each other. The hard part is, both mixtapes are made by Octavio so we can't just tack on a "by DJ Octavio" at the end of them.

And also, I left a question on Entropical's talk page about something else, but I don't think anyone's seen it yet, so I'd thought I'd leave a notice about it here~ SundaeSquidTalk 09:05, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

Oh, ok. I just saw several videos of the Splatocalypse song being called Inkopolis Memorial Mixtape. If we were to make a separate page for it, though, where would it go on the s/s2 music navbox templates? Or would it just not be on either? That's kinda why I'm hesitant about it, but I think the best way would be to rename the navbox to be "Music of Splatoon 2" instead of "Music in Splatoon 2", and have a section called "Other" or "non-game" or something. I know this is kind of a different situation, but we had a scenario where a song in Splatoon 1 appeared on an album but not in the game - the Chorus of Calamari County. That time, it was just appended onto the normal Calamari Inkantation page and not added to the navbox. Yes, the Mixtape features loads of songs and therefore way more work, but could something similar happen with that? GloverMist (talk) 14:11, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

Oh there have been many songs not heard in game affixed to other articles, such as the Splattack! trailer remixes, this would just be the first one where it has its own article. And yes, we will have to list a section to every single song included, but I do see the merit of a big breakdown article listing all the songs, and the changes and additions.  KA467 🗩 🖿  15:35, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

Hyperlinks Not Working

So I created a song page and I edited other pages so that the song link would link them to the song page 4 dunno. I did this, but when I go to the Octo Expansion levels and click on the links, it won't take me to the song page. I'm fairly new here and all my other song links have worked. Does anyone know why it's not working this time and how I fix it? ~~Malkiboy~~

That’s because you were linking it to a page called “#4 dunno,” which isn’t a page. To link it to “4 dunno,” you have to do [[4 dunno|#4 dunno]]. The first half before the | is the page you’re linking it to, and the second half after it is what the text says. We have to do this for the dedf1sh songs because for some reason Inkipedia doesn’t let us put #s in article titles. Does that even make sense lol I just woke up and I’m really tired xD I’ll fix it for you, if you don’t mind. SundaeSquidTalk 01:44, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

InfoboxGobbler

I'm fairly new here, but I was wondering what the InfoboxGobbler actually does. When I create new pages, sometimes I refer to other ones and I see InfoboxGobbler, but I don't know what that does or what it means. I know it has something to do with the Infobox, but what does it do or mean? ~~Malkiboy~~

This takes multiple infoboxes from across the page and displays them in one large infobox where it is written, being able to change between them through tabs at the top. The example on Now or Never! is good: see how you can tab between the different versions, rather than having separate infoboxes piled on top each other? That's what InfoboxGobbler does! (Sometimes you have to reload the page, though.) Hope that helps explain it.

Also, to sign your name on talk pages, just type four ~ symbols in a row with no other text. It should convert to a signature like mine automatically when you preview it! GloverMist (talk) 07:57, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

Icons in article text

Look at this gear page, or any other gear page, and notice how the page is littered with images next to links, mid-sentence in the article text. It wasn't always like this. I've noticed that excessive usage of these icons has been slowly spreading to other wiki pages besides the gear pages. I'd like to get a consensus on how these icons should be used. Personally, I believe their use should be greatly restricted compared to what we have now, for these reasons:

• Links to gear, weapons, etc. are not necessarily more important than any other link, so they shouldn't have images making them stand out from other links.
• The images are distracting, interrupting the normal flow of reading.
• Other wikis don't do this, at least not to this extent.
• It just looks bad lol. Can we be a bit more profreshional?

Proposal: restrict use of icons in article text.

Also, this disturbs some of the tables: for example: in list of weapons when you try to organize by availability (cost), you get unorganized list which is somehow disrupted - It disrupts the alphabetical order. Return of Inkling of the month?

Now that version 5.0 was the last update to add new content, and Splatoon 2’s final fest occured two months ago, there would be a reduction of traffic in the wiki for lack of new content. I think since now that the Splatfest widget is gone for the main page and we need something to inspire editors to keep on editing and reward them for their efforts. I think we should bring back old tradition that helped the wiki in it's old days for improving and uniting. I believe we should bring back Inkling/Octoling of the month back for the following reasons:

• Reward editors for their hard work and contributions.
• Inspire editors to keep editing now that the game is not getting new content and Splatoon 3 hasn't been announced that it is in production.
• Spatfest widget is no longer necessary on the main page and there can be a spot for that widget between news and poll.
• Bring back old tradition that was fun and united the editors.
• Complement other editors and have a nice competition vote.

Collaboration of Inkipedia and the competitive scene

One of the big missed opportunites in my opinion of the wiki is the connection between us Inkipedia - the Splatoon wiki and the competitive Splatoon scene. Splatoon 2 is Nintendo's attempt to reach competitive e-Sports by bringing us Spectator Mode, the shoal and annual championships and tournaments. I was small amount of time in the competitive scene and I've noticed collaboration and partnering between all around the Splatoon community: Between Tournament Organizers to Artists, Casters, Streamers, and partnering of Inkademy with InkLeague that run LUTI- a Big seasonal tournament with divisions. I think Inkipedia should take part of the competitive scene: collab with a tournament organization from time to time, cover official comeptitive tournaments and teams, cover history of the game by talking about meta and the reasons of it being shifted. Further more for the following reasons:

• Bring more attention to Inkipedia, the Splatoon wiki. Which can bring more editors.
• Understand more about the game and its aspects, for ex. Right side peeking of the characters shooting from the the right hand and bomb launcher from left hand, and other techniques that explain more about the game. I recently discovered that since Splatlings shoot really close to the ground, they struggle against enemies that are in higher ground since the weapon shoots really low, this is something that is objective and is relevant to cover in the Splatoon wiki.
• Learn more about the competitive side of Splatoon and it's team aspect of the game. Teamwork, Co-ordination, Roles, Community, Nintendo local organizations that cover tournaments.
• Cover history of meta and team comps to show why recent patches nerfed or buffed certain weapons.
  • (.52 Gal and .96 Gal Deco Splash Wall were meta in the first game since the Splash Wall had high resistance which is only covered in a small patch update, that meta was a big part of the game and of the patches that came after that (.96 gal nerf) and shows history of the game.
  • Dynamo and it's nerfs and buffs along the two games.
  • Tenta Missiles history with it's origin name of launching ten missiles that was covered in Nintendo Treehouse before the launch of the game and it's buff that made it shoot ten missiles.
  • Nerfs to Ink Armor weapons (N-ZAP, Tri-Slosher, Kensa Undercover Brella, H-3 Nozzlenose) and how the meta drifted each patch, and why Armor weapons got those nerfs.
  • Show why Special Gauge points nerfs allowed Nintendo to balance weapons more easily by having each weapon have it's own special points gauge rather than the change of special depletion in the first game.

Me and DaDoc540 started to cover some of the official Splatoon tournaments and teams but we only scratched the surface. I know a wiki is suppose to be objective and have no opinions but that does not mean it should not cover the history of the game and it's community aspect.

Categories Not Being Acknowledged

I went into the Uncategorized pages and I saw that two pages I created (#5 thirsty and #6 frisk were there. I checked #5 thirsty and I saw categories at the bottom of the page. I redid the categories but they weren't appearing at the bottom. Why is it that the categories aren't recognised and how do I fix it? It may just be my WIFI. Sorry for the late reply, but <!-- is the syntax for commenting. For example, if I write <!--hello> on an article, when I preview/save the page, the "hello" won't show up; it won't be seen on the page, no matter what device or browser you're using. The only way to see it is to edit the page and find it where I initially put it. Commenting is commonly used when one person wants to put an additional message or reminder about the content on that page. For example, maybe you want to leave out space for information you want to add, but don't want anybody else to accidentally interfere with it by adding something different in that spot, you could leave a message using the comment syntax instead of leaving the message on the talk page. User Pages Being Added to Categories

I created a page Category:Fan Userboxes for userboxes like Template:Turquoise October fan which are fans or something similar of something. But the Inkipedia automatically adds anyone who's used one of the userboxes. I tried looking on the Help wiki but I couldn't find it. How do I stop the Inkipedia from adding users?
