Disambiguation Pages

I've seen several disambiguation pages listed in the "How can I help?" pages, specifically "Oldest pages" list. I feel they should be removed from those lists, as many of them do not need further improvements as their placement in the pages would suggest. 5p1k3 (talk) 15:20, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Weapons' Quotes Pages

In all honesty, I think these aren't necessary for each and every weapon. I can see why they might be nice to have in places such as the Fire Emblem Wiki for such dialogue-heavy games as those, but the quotes pages are pretty stubby. Would it be a good idea to merge those into their respective weapon pages? 5p1k3 (talk) 23:08, 6 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I completely agree. The weapon quote pages, although linked on their respective weapon page, are extremely small and disappointing. Having the quotes on the pages make so much more sense. Splattersky (talk) 00:05, 7 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Uploading Captured Images From Nintendo Switch

Is it a good idea? I can definitely do it once I get a microSD and an adapter. However, I'm worried about the quality. I'm sure many images here are taken from Capture, but just wanted to put it out there in case I'm having a very bad idea. 5p1k3 (talk) 15:28, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

While using a capture card certainly is better, having an image is better than having no image. The Switch capture quality is more than usable so feel free if you're adding something new. Inkling luke.png Inkling talk.png 16:16, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You can also upload the image to Facebook or Twitter so that you can save it to your computer or mobile device. Warriorking98 (talk) 22:41, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That reduces the quality further, though if necessary taking from there is fine. Inkling luke.png Inkling talk.png 20:08, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you both so much! I'll take that into consideration~! 5p1k3 (talk) 17:49, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
From Twitter, if you "View Image", and add ":orig" after the extension of the file name, you get the full quality image as uploaded.  :) -DJParticle (talk) 08:08, 15 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Just know that if you are planning to upload videos the max file size for Inkipedia is 2 megabytes so you might need to make them small and low quality

Should Inkling and Octoling be capitalized?

S'pose the title says it all. I'm pretty sure I've seen both in-game and on murchandise (geddit?) but I've always written capital I and O on here. So which is it? Splattersky (talk) 05:07, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'd say capitalize both. --Raltseye prata med mej 03:29, 17 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I totally agree that they should both be Capitalized. Stay Fresh! Woomynator (talk) 13:03, 13 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Idols' Ages And Lore

The Squid vs. Octopus Splatfest banter from Off The Hook established that one year had passed since the game premiered. Wouldn't that make Pearl 22, Marina 19, and the Squid Sisters 20 these days? -DJParticle (talk) 09:26, 19 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I guess so. I mean Pearl says "SO... Y'all ready to celebrate the one-year anniversary of our show?!” in the English announcement dialogue for Squid vs. Octopus. Warriorking98 (talk) 22:51, 19 November 2018.
I would say so, except there's the fact that we don't know how the Inklings and Octolings measure time. It could be like dogs or cats, where 1 year = 7 years, and so on and so forth. When we say Marina is "18" could actually be 28 years in squid/octo time measures, so we don't know if they count a full year as a year for age. Splattersky (talk) 23:09, 19 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, the Inklings and Octolings model much of their world after human civilization, so why not use their measurement systems as well? 5p1k3 (talk) 16:33, 26 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Poll Suggestions

I have been suggesting polls for a while now and noticed that, when going to the list of previous polls, almost all of them have been suggested by the same person. I feel like this means that other people are not getting the chance to show their ideas for polls. Is there anything we can do about this?--Splatana (talk) 08:38, 21 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I agree with Splatana. I have suggested a few good polls and none of them have gotten on the main page. Warriorking98 (talk) 22:01, 21 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Maybe there could be a page that replaces the poll voting page every time the polls are going to change and people could vote on which poll that will appear on the main page next?--Splatana (talk) 08:33, 22 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I’m taking the suggestions of the polls into consideration but some are not universal, were already or too minor. We could make a poll suggestion page but making a poll for which poll to use is kinda redundant. Talking about which one through the wiki’s discord sounds appropriate. I would really like someone to help me with the polls and put them more frequently in the wiki. If any of you would like to help, write to me in my Talk page or DM me in Discord (Shahar#3810) User:Shachar700/Sig 09:52, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

Pages

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but...how do you create a page? --SundaeSquid (talk) 16:02, 24 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Type in the name of the page you want to create in the search bar, then click on the bold text saying "Create the page(page name)on this wiki!" Hope this helps.--Splatana (talk) 11:23, 27 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Deleting and moving contents from unnecessary pages?

The page Location only list and talks about the places the player can travel to via the map on the Wii U Gamepad, which could fit better in the Map article. The name is also misleading, since people searching on the wiki would probably be looking for locations in general, as a broader term, which is covered well in the Inkopolis article.

Other articles, such as Inkopolis Café and Camp Jellyfish, are names based on conjecture and are describing inaccessable places seen from accessable areas. Are these articles really necessary, as there are many other inaccessible areas that are visible from an accessible area, such as subways, train stations, streets and etc. Should these places just be covered in the main articles for the accessable areas or could make a general article that compiles all the inaccessible areas, or just deleted?--Hinamin (talk) 11:30, 26 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think the former would make more sense, but it could also be accompanied by a link to a full page with details about all the inaccessible areas. 5p1k3 (talk) 16:35, 26 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Splatfest Image issues - Embedding

Recently, I've had issues embedding two particular Splatfest images into my Musing pages: Trick v Treat and Salsa v Guac. With the former, changing the pixel size from x200 to x201 worked, but the latter won't embed no matter what pixel size I give it. What am I doing wrong?  :( -DJParticle (talk) 08:18, 29 November 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Fandom Splatoon wiki

When searching for Inkpedia on the web, I came across this wiki, http://splatoon.wikia.com/wiki/Splatoon_Wiki:Home It seems to be pretty small. Do you think we could merge it with Inkpedia? --Splatana (talk) 11:20, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That's the original Splatoon Wiki, the old version of this one we're on. The wiki was however soon approached to join NIWA, the network of Nintendo Wikis, where the Wiki would be transferred from the free Wikia service to the independently hosted servers of Mediawiki, (I could mope all day on how much I hate wikia, but anyways). Part of the move included the name change from Splatoon Wiki to Inkipedia. The thing is, Wikia doesn't allow Wikis to be deleted or archived, so the original just sits there, with just a few editors for whatever reason decide to contribute to that ghost town instead of this one. You can see this with a ton of other Wikis that decide to break the shackles of Wikia, but because Wikia tends to get better Search engine results, people contribute to the old wiki instead of the new one, causing 2 competing wikis. Very annoying, but a few Wikis do manage to regain their popularity over search engines, and luckily, Inkipedia is one of them. Further info KingAwesome467 (talk) 17:09, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I actually have been using the wikis on Fandom (not the splatoon one tho) for quite a while now. It is pretty small/missing a lot of info, like you said, so maybe we could ask them what they think? --SundaeSquidS Weapon Main Octobrush.pngTalk 21:34, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, about what and why? They probably (hopefully) know that we exist and they can't delete their site. We could always go over and advertise our wiki but that's frowned upon by the Wikia staff and is something they have banned people for in the past. --Raltseye prata med mej 01:04, 5 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
True, I didn't think about how they can't delete their site and probably wouldn't want too, anyway. I agree with Raltseye --SundaeSquidS Weapon Main Octobrush.pngTalk 23:12, 5 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Allow unregistered editing

Now that new content for Splatoon 2 is ending (or at least slowing down), I'm curious if anyone wants Inkipedia to allow unregistered users to have basic editing privileges. Should anything go wrong if we enabled this, we have ToggleAnonRights for quickly disabling unregistered editing. Filters (like this, and this, and this) can prevent vandalism from unregistered users. The wiki could be missing out on plenty of good edits by having an account barrier between people and editing, so I think it's worth a trial period at least.

For reference, these independent video game wikis allow unregistered users to edit: ARMS Institute, Chrono Wiki, Dragon Quest Wiki, Golden Sun Universe, Kingdom Hearts Wiki, Nookipedia, Pikipedia/Pikmin Fanon, SmashWiki, StrategyWiki, Super Mario Wiki, Wars Wiki.

Opinions? Heddy (talk) 04:49, 15 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think it would be a good idea, but we'd need to give it a test run first.--Splatana (talk) 09:14, 15 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Grizzco weapons

On the pages for the blaster, charger, slosher, and brella, should we mention the grizzco variants? Cause those weapons technically are considered a part of those categories, after all (even tho they're only usable in salmon run) --SundaeSquidS Weapon Main Octobrush.pngTalk 21:31, 18 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Currently the wiki is treating them as a category of their own, the "rare weapons". I don't have an opinion on how they should be categorized, just wanted to point that out. Heddy (talk) 23:06, 27 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Pages for individual songs

Considering how intrinsic music is to Splatoon, I think it's kinda ridiculous that we don't have pages for individual songs. There's simply too much information to simply put in the trivia of the bands respective pages. I've been working on an example on my sandbox, but I'm terrible at describing music and there's still a couple details that need going over. KingAwesome467 (talk) 15:19, 27 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I was wondering the exact same thing, I just never bothered to mention it here. I think it's a good idea, and I've seen your sandbox thingy; it looks great! --SundaeSquidS Weapon Main Octobrush.pngTalk 15:43, 27 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Be bold and go for it! Your sandbox page shows that it obviously a good idea. But, I don't think there should be a stubby article for every song; only songs that you have things to write about should have an article. Heddy (talk) 17:44, 27 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Cool, I had a couple notes on the page of things I'm unsure of, but I'll move that to the discussion page. However I can't move the page itself to the Splattack! page as a redirect exists there, could someone sort that out? KingAwesome467 (talk) 18:18, 27 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Although, come to think of it, my sandbox had some stuff before I made it into the Splattack page, so it may not be the best idea to move my sandbox? I don't know. KingAwesome467 (talk) 18:26, 27 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Like you said, your page contains unrelated history, so there is no reason to move it there. Please copy and paste. Heddy (talk) 23:09, 27 December 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sanitization on Humans?

Hey everyone, It's me, Agent 10, and I have a question to pose to all the Inklings and Octolings out there....

What would happen to a human (assuming they were 14 or 15 years old or younger) if they were Sanitized the same way that the Octarians and Octolings were? Would it even affect them at all? If they were affected, how would it affect them? How would they even become Sanitized in the first place? Injection? Ingestion? Physical Contact? Aerospray?

I am posting this in terms of this wiki's policy and along the guidelines of the Sanitization Project.

Please, respond. I would like to hear what would happen.

Agent 10 (talk) 23:46, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Interesting question, but as this is a wiki on splatoon, I don't see why this is necessary. Feel free to pose a musing on your user page, though :) Splattersky (talk) 00:18, 9 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

why an aerospray? Woomy1 (talk) 15:24, 21 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Camp Triggerfish Maps

Camp Triggerfish doesn't have the maps for Splatoon 2, only Splatoon. Could someone please add the Splatoon 2 maps? (https://splatoonwiki.org/wiki/Camp_Triggerfish)

Spoiler alert on main page

I noticed that the smash wiki has a spoiler warning at the top of the main page, as well as on some pages, saying something along the lines of "This wiki contains spoilers! Read at your own risk!" I think that would be helpful here too, so we wouldn't have to remember to put the spoiler warning everywhere. Splattersky (talk) 01:23, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Splatfest Flooder Artwork

Does anyone know where this render came from? I asked the original uploader but he never responded. I need to know if there are any other Splatoon 2 enemy renders that it originated from. File:FlooderSplatfest.jpeg GoombaBroadcast (talk) 1:54 17 January 2019 (UTC)

Should email address be required for new accounts?

On this wiki, a login is required to edit pages, but given that, how about requiring an email address to be specified for all new accounts, with email confirmation being required to edit pages with these accounts? Sincerly Xanthipos on 03:27, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

plz no Woomy1 (talk) 15:23, 21 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I agree with Woomy1. I also think that if this rule was imposed, any accounts like mine where their users don't have emails could be locked out from editing.--Splatana (talk) 11:26, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, existing users wouldn't if the requirement only applies to new accounts and existing accounts that already have emails.--Xanthipos 16:57, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Splatoon 2 Character Models

I feel like we need some character models for most of the enemies in Splatoon 2 (especially the Salmonids) since it’s rather hard to get High Quality pictures of some of them. Do we have anyone that knows how to get ahold of them? GoombaBroadcast (talk) 17:29, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I have a friend who is able to rip the models of enemies such as Salmonid, the problem is that I dont think the proper shaders can be easily applied, so it still looks kind of ugly. Rassicas 20:42, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

That's alright, I'll still try to get good screenshots of some of the other enemies. Still getting used to photoshop. GoombaBroadcast (talk) 10:21, 11 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Timeless

Inkipedia's default theme/skin is due for an upgrade from Vector to Timeless. Before we can do this, we need to get some opinions to make sure everything's okay. Read below and share your opinions.

The benefit of Timeless is that it adapts to every screen size; it has a modern and responsive design. Timeless is already the default on mobile, and we might be making it the desktop default to avoid maintaining two skins and so that desktop users get the same benefits.

To try Timeless early on desktop, go to Special:Preferences and select Timeless from the Appearance section. Alternatively, follow this link to only try a single page: https://splatoonwiki.org/wiki/Scrapper?useskin=timeless.

I expect that there might be opinions on 3 things:

  • Should the top bar "stick" on your screen as you scroll down, for easy access to search?
    • Timeless default: Yes. Old skin: No.
  • Should there be two sidebars or do we force it to always have one?
    • Timeless default: 1 sidebar on small desktop window, 2 sidebars on big desktop window. Old skin: 1 sidebar.
  • Should the content area's size be consistent or unlimited?
    • Timeless default: the content area will always be roughly the same size regardless of screen size. Old skin: The page always keeps getting wider on wider screens.

All of those behaviors can be changed as desired. Just comment here if you want us to stick with the default Timeless behaviors or change something. Heddy (talk) 20:05, 10 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not a fan of the dual sidebars, computers have the advantage of nice large width for lots of info, narrowing it feels more constrained, and everything looks a bit larger, like if someone blew up the mobile version (which is exactly what happened...) I have no idea how customisation this stuff all is, but I feel the sidebar size itself is a bit too big.
Me likey the new search bar.  KA467 🗩 🖿  20:32, 10 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The dual sidebar is pretty off-putting to me, I prefer everything on one side. The rest looks fine by me. Rassicas 20:52, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
Not sure if this response is late or not, but I think the new skin looks great! I definitely like how the search bar keeps with you as you scroll down, and you aren't forced to scroll all the way back up when you want to search something. Although, like others have said, I'm not very fond of the dual sidebar. And also, I don't really have a preference for the third thing, since I only use inkipedia on one device, and I'm not sure what it's currently like on other devices. It'll take a lot of getting used to the new skin, though, for me. --SundaeSquidS Weapon Main Octobrush.pngTalk 23:02, 10 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not late. We'll wait a couple days to get all concerns ironed out before doing anything. Feel free to keep testing the skin. Heddy (talk) 00:26, 11 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I don't really mind the second side bar, but since it is shorter it feels a little lopsided when compared the other side bar? I don't know how else to put it. Other than that and the things I've already mentioned on Discord (which were more visual critique on layouts, so hard to easily demonstrate in a talk page), the only other thing I mind is how all text feels bigger. If it isn't in a table or template, all text in an article feel like I have my browser on 120% zoom level compared with how it was in the Vector skin. AmbientDinosaurSig.pngAmbientDinosaurSigTalk.png 00:31, 11 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Vector's text is 87% of your web browser's base font size. Timeless defaults to 95%. I think that being closer to respecting your computer or web browser's actual chosen font size is a good thing, not a bad thing. Regardless, we can adjust it to 87% if that's a widespread opinion. Heddy (talk) 01:22, 11 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh, I didn't know that Vector already affected font size! It might be something one gets accustomed to then. We will see after a trial run I guess. AmbientDinosaurSig.pngAmbientDinosaurSigTalk.png 13:32, 11 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I am okay with everything except for the second side bar. Warriorking98 (talk) 02:31, 11 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, as everyone else said, second side bar really puts me off it. Everything else is okay! Splattersky (talk) 09:11, 11 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm gonna jump on the second sidebar hate train and say that I agree with that complaint. But, if we do get a second sidebar then at least be consistant with what's on which side. Now general navigation is on the left side while the wiki tools but the tools section is on the right side. I'd say the tools section should also be on the right side. --Raltseye prata med mej 15:11, 11 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Due to the above feedback, Timeless is now single sidebar. Heddy (talk) 01:49, 12 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

BOOYAH!! Splattersky (talk) 10:44, 12 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Another change: As long as you're not viewing Inkipedia in a small window, the page-specific part of the sidebar will be sticky. That's the part of the sidebar that shows a page's categories, other languages available (sometimes French), and actions like moving the page. Try scrolling up and down and you'll see what I mean. Make sure to say something if you have an opinion on this. Heddy (talk) 23:16, 12 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

We should make the Timeless the default, and still have the old skin as an option. Inkling project paintball font eleven23.png Inkling project paintball font eleven23 talk.png 00:18, 16 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The old skin, Vector, will continue to be available at Special:Preferences for the foreseeable future. Heddy (talk) 15:42, 16 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
