Trial period after inactivity

It says on the Patrollers page that "Resuming regular activity and contacting an admin will often result in reinstatement of rights. No formal request is necessary, just contact a friendly admin directly!" I think that a former staff member should need to be active and edit frequently for a certain time period before having their rights reinstated. AmbientDinosaur had their rights reinstated after a day of activity, but they have now been inactive for a month. I think that users who were demoted for inactivity should need to go through a trial period before having their rights reinstated, so that we know that they are committed to using their rights and helping the wiki. What do you think? EminenceTalk 20:23, 30 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think once someone gains trust for a role, they continue to be trusted to do that role well until the end of time, unless some bad thing happens that changes everyone's mind and we no longer trust them. Merely becoming inactive is not a bad thing, it's just life. Someone who has done nothing bad should not be punished with trial periods. That sort of thing would just make past patrollers feel unwelcome, as if their many contributions have not earned them any respect or privileges. I believe they have earned the trust and the privilege of being given a role back just by asking. I think that if someone isn't committed to helping the wiki... then they won't ask for their role back! Heddy (talk) 09:05, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay. But still, AmbientDinosaur has been very inactive since they got their rights back, so... EminenceTalk 12:25, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
They have been monitoring RecentChanges and patrolling edits, as seen here, which is the primary responsibility of a patroller. Luke26 (talk) 13:48, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's a surprise to me! I thought they were waiting on Splatoon 3 news. Patrolling definitely means someone is active, in my opinion. Regardless, my position is that users should not be punished with a trial period for inactivity. Heddy (talk) 04:30, 3 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
