Morning vs. Afternoon vs. Night, also known as SpringFest, was a seasonal special Splatfest in Splatoon 3. It was announced on social networks on 21 March 2025.[1]

Details

Splatsville's unique decoration and other features for SpringFest. Note Shiver's outfit and the Inkling's Splatfest Tee being different from the final versions.

As a special Splatfest, SpringFest is accompanied by several cosmetic changes to the game, carrying over from Baby Chicks vs. Li'l Bunnies vs. Bear Cubs:

  • Splatsville, Inkopolis Plaza, and Inkopolis Square are decorated with a spring theme. These decorations include flowers, artificial cherry trees, paper parasols, Easter eggs, colorful Moai statues, streamers, pennants, and a statue of a cartoon tuna mascot seen in various other locations throughout the game. The egg held by the chicken statue in Splatsville is repainted to resemble an Easter egg, while the pig statue wears an Easter egg hat. The kitsune and tanuki statues in Inkopolis Plaza are wearing flower crowns. Various structures in Inkopolis Square, including the origami crane and the tortoise statue, are covered in a fluorescent ooze that shifts between the colors of the three teams, similar to all special Splatfests in Splatoon 2. Bubbles drift through the air in all three hubs, and the sky is colored with a pink-light peach gradient.
  • The camera angle for the title screen is modified in certain hubs. Inkopolis Square, for example, depicts the Galleria instead of Deca Tower.
  • In the lobby, translucent stickers shaped like fish and Easter eggs appear when the floor and wall are inked.
  • Deep Cut, the Squid Sisters, and Off the Hook wear special outfits.
    • Shiver's eyebrows and hair change to light green, the latter having a gradient to teal towards the tips. She wears a pink sakura earring in place of her usual ones, and a sakura crown in place of her headband. Her shawl has a teal-to-pink gradient, and a large, aqua flower-shaped pendant with white dots in the center and dark green tassels instead of her usual one. Her legwear also fades from teal to pink from her pants to her shoes, which have pink soles. Furthermore, her fingertips are colored aqua.
    • Frye's hair, eyelashes, eyebrows, and pants all feature a pink-to-aqua gradient; she also wears red lipstick. Her top and shawl both change to coral red, and the squid-shaped clip on her belt is replaced with a large white floral one with pink polka-dots. Her earrings and hairpiece are replaced with new ones styled after hanami dango; her fingertips and toe tips are colored pink.
    • Big Man's body sheen has a teal-to-pink gradient. He has two red circles painted on his cheeks resembling blush marks, and his usual headpiece is replaced with a large one made of three green flowers with pink dots connected with lines painted on the insides; the rope hanging from it is also pink.
    • Callie and Marie wear pastel versions of their normal outfits, with both of them having several accents in the opposite's color. Callie wears a pastel pink romper with all her usually white accessories colored aqua, while Marie wears a pastel green dress, with all her usually white accessories colored pink. Both of them wear striped tights; Callie's usual headpiece is replaced with an aqua Easter egg shell (though it retains the leaf underneath) while Marie's is replaced with a green one, both with pink markings. Callie's boots are recolored pink with aqua highlights, and Marie's are recolored green with pink highlights. Callie has an aqua flower mark painted on her right cheek, while Marie has a lime green one on her left.
    • Pearl wears a Gothic metal-inspired outfit with a spiky dark purple crown and studded collar alongside her usual gloves, and a long, low-cut black T-shirt with a white design that represents an Inkling and an Octoling's tentacles side by side. The straps of her top are visible over her otherwise bare shoulders. She wears fishnet stockings over black pantyhose, and high platform boots with chains wrapped around the ankles and skull designs on the tongues. The tips of Pearl's tentacles feature pastel green spots.
    • Marina wears a pair of headphones with a wire-mesh pattern on the ears, a white sporty bralette, and a black mesh garment on top of it, covering her neck and the top of her cleavage, and reaching down to the middle and ring fingers of her hands. She wears long white hip-hop pants with plain black ankle boots, and her tentacles take on a sea green-to-pink gradient. Her fingertips and navel piercing are colored purple.
  • Characters in the cities and lobby such as Jellyfish, Staff, Judd, Murch, and Smallfry all wear pastel green, pastel pink, and aqua party hats decorated with various patterns.
  • A special news article in the Nintendo Switch news will reward players with four unique pieces of headgear and eight pieces of shoes returning from the Splatoon 2 Splatfest event Hare vs. Tortoise:
  • Music is added or modified for the Splatfest.
    • A special progressive pop song, Meadowlark, plays in the lobby instead of Soak & Stomp. Crab-N-Go also plays a unique circus-style theme.
    • The title screen has a new sound, along with the Deep Cut intro.
    • Anarchy Poisons is modified for the Splatfest to add xylophones and a jaw harp.
    • Anarchy Rainbow is given an Irish-styled arrangement.
    • Opening is modified to add xylophones, bagpipes, and fiddles.
    • Ego Overboard and Still Swimmin' are remixed with a "bouncier" theme, with Ego Overboard played in swing time and featuring additional vocals from Big Man.
  • The start of a battle is modified with bubbles appearing in the center of the screen. Bubbles also fill the air during the first few seconds of a match.
  • This Splatfest has a special ink variant, with flecks in the other teams' colors resembling confetti or sprinkles being mixed in. This ink effect is not applied during mirror matches with the same team.
  • The TV screens in Splatsville display unique videos related to the spring theme of the Splatfest.

The Tricolor Turf War stages for this Splatfest were Robo ROM-en and Bluefin Depot.

Shiver

“When do you get things done? Morning, afternoon, or night?”
Big Man

“Ay! (Let's get this Splatfest done!)”
Shiver

“Obviously, I favor mornings, when the air is fresh and the possibilities are endless.”

Frye

“Nah, afternoon is peak. By then I'm all the way fueled and ready to go to town!”

Big Man

“Ay. (But consider night, when the hassles of the day are gone and you can focus.)”

Frye

“I have a question. Can the things we're getting done be anything?”
Shiver

“I don't see why not. Hobbies, study, work– it's all fair game.”

Big Man

“Ay. (Speaking personally, I get all my best songwriting done at night.)”

Big Man

“Ay... (Though sometimes I get TOO in the zone, and the sun's up before I know it...)”
Shiver
“Stay up too late, and you'll be too fried to do anything else the next day.”

Big Man

“Ay. (Yeah, but getting Frye'd is the whole reason I need my nights to myself.)”
Frye
“I'm seriously sorry for the third emergency I called you about yesterday.”

Shiver

“If you need more time, I suggest waking up early. The morning air is highly refreshing.”

Shiver

“My head is clearest right after waking up, making it the ideal time to get to work.”
Frye
“Yeah, you always were an early riser.”
Shiver

“Even my calligraphy is more precise in the morning, before the day comes crashing in.”
Big Man
“Ay! Ay. (I've noticed! The way you sign our checks is especially crisp then.)”
Frye

“I'm Team Afternoon all the way. I run on solar power, and that's when I'm charged!”

Frye

“Plus, unlike morning or night, no one can whine about my daily flute practice.”

Big Man

“Ay? Ay. (You practice at home? That's a noise complaint any time of day.)”
Frye

“Says who?! The old folks where I live are always banging on the walls in time with me!”

Frye
“Here, lemme show you how all that practice has paid–”
Shiver

“Let's finish this broadcast before you start tootling at us, hm?”

Notes: Shiver starts speaking as soon as Frye finished her quote, interrupting her.

Big Man

“Ay. Ay? (Wait. If we're split on this, when is the best time for us to work together?)”
Shiver

“I suppose the best compromise would be for all of us to honor the Splatfest winner.”

Shiver

“Meaning that if I win, you two had best be up bright and early for practice at 5 AM.”
Frye

“Team, I'm begging you to win this for me. Please. PLEASE.”
Frye

“Oh, don't forget this is the springtime fest! Did you pick up your special Spring gear?”
Big Man

“Ay. Ay! (If not, check the Nintendo Switch News app. Enjoy the Spring Fest fashion!)”

Big Man

“Ay! (There's no time like nighttime!)”
Shiver

“What a thing to wake up to!”
Frye

“How?! Did we oversleep?!”

Big Man

“Ay. Ay! (Thanks, Team Night. You held out no matter how dark it seemed!)”
Shiver
“Team Morning showed up bright and early, for all the good it did.”
Frye
“Thanks to everyone on Team Afternoon for trying so hard on my behalf.”
Shiver

“Did Team Night ever sleep?! Seemed like they were winning at every time of day.”
Frye

“I liked it better when the thing they were so productive at wasn't "destroying us."”

Big Man

“Ay! (I'm looking forward to our next music practice being a night session!)”
Frye

“Ooo. That does leave our afternoon free.”

Frye

“I've been itching to go bowling like we used to. Why not hit the lanes before we practice?”
Shiver

“That sounds fantastic. I've been needing a bit more exercise lately.”

Shiver

“Though it would conflict with that new shark documentary I wanted to see...”
Frye

“Why not do both? We have all day before night falls!”
Shiver

“Big Man, didn't you want a new spring coat? They might run out of stock soon.”
Big Man

“Ay? (You remembered me saying that?)”
Frye

“OK, so bowling in the morning, movie in the afternoon, shopping at night. Works for me!”
Big Man

“Ay! Ay? (Sounds like a plan! Though...aren't we forgetting something important?)”

Haya

“Wanneer ben jij het actiefst? 's Ochtends,
's middags of 's avonds?”

(When are you the most active? In the morning, in the afternoon, or in the evening?)
Ray

“Ay! (Tijd om dit Splatfest aan te pakken!)”

(Ay! (Time to tackle this Splatfest!))
Haya

“Ik ben natuurlijk dol op de ochtend, als de
lucht fris is en de dag vol mogelijkheden.”

(I am naturally fond of the morning, when the air is fresh and the day full of possibilities.)

Muriël

“Hè bah, nee. Ik kom echt pas 's middags op
gang.

(Aww yuck, no. I am truly only getting started in the afternoon. Then I am completely good to go!)

Ray

“Ay. (Maar 's avonds hoef je niet meer
zoveel, en kun je je fijn concentreren.)”

(Ay. (But in the evening you don't have to do as much, and you can concentrate pleasantly.))

Muriël

“Ik heb een vraag... Maakt het uit wáár je
actief mee bezig bent?”

(I have a question... Does it matter WHAT you are actively doing?)
Haya

“Waarom zou het uitmaken? Hobby's, studie,
werk... Actief is actief!”

(Why should it matter? Hobbies, study, work... Active is active!)

Ray

“Ay. (Ik maak zelf mijn beste
composities in de avond.)”

(Ay. (Personally, I make my best compositions in the evening.))

Ray

“Ay... (Al ben ik soms zó geconcentreerd bezig
dat ik pas weer opkijk als de zon opkomt...)”

(Ay... (Although, I am SO concentrated sometimes that I look up again only when the sun is rising...))
Haya
“Als je te lang opblijft, ben je de volgende
dag niks waard.”

(If you stay up too long, you are worth nothing the next day.)

Ray

“Ay. (Ja, maar ik moet dingen juist 's avonds
doen, omdat ik de hele dag geen rust krijg.)”

(Ay. (Yes, but I actually have to do things in the evening, because I can't get any peace the whole day.))

(Uh, yes, sorry you had to help yesterday with that first... and second... and third emergency.)

Haya

“Als je meer tijd nodig hebt, dan raad ik aan
om vroeg op te staan. Heel verfrissend!”

(If you need more time, then I recommend getting up early. Very refreshing!)

Haya

“Mijn hoofd is het helderst als ik net wakker
ben. Ik ben dan echt het productiefst.”

(My head is the clearest when I am just awake. I am truly the most productive, then.)

(Yes, you always were the first to get up.)
Haya

“Volgens mij is zelfs mijn handschrift netter
's ochtends, voor alle afleiding is begonnen.”

(I believe even my handwriting is more proper in the morning, before all the distractions have begun.)
Ray
“Ay! Ay. (Ja, dat is mij ook opgevallen! Op al
die cheques die je 's ochtends ondertekent.)”

(Ay! Ay. (Yes, I noticed that too! On all those checks you sign in the morning.))
Muriël

“Ik ben zelf fan van overdag. Ik loop op
zonne-energie, en dan ben ik opgeladen!”

(Personally, I am a fan of the daytime. I run on solar energy, and then I am charged!)

Muriël

“En daarnaast krijg ik dan minder klachten
als ik oefen op mijn fluit.”

(And besides that, then I get fewer complaints when I practice on my flute.)

Ray

“Ay? Ay... (Jij oefent thuis? Dat geeft op elk
moment van de dag overlast...)”

(Ay? Ay... (You practice at home? That creates a nuisance every moment of the day...))

(Actually, the neighbors are fond of it! They always hit the wall to indicate the rhythm.)

(Wait, I will let you guys hear what all that practicing has produced!)
Haya

“Laten we eerst even de uitzending afronden,

(Let us first wrap up the broadcast briefly, before you start tooting at us.)

Notes: Shiver starts speaking as soon as Frye finished her quote, interrupting her.

Ray

“Ay. Ay? (Wacht even. Als we allemaal wat
anders willen, wanneer oefenen we dan?)”

(Ay. Ay? (Wait a moment. If we all want something different, when do we practice, then?))
Haya

“Ik denk dat we het Splatfest moeten laten
beslissen wat de beste tijd is.”

(I think we have to let the Splatfest decide what the best time is.)

Haya

“Als ik win, zetten jullie maar beter de wekker
voor de bandoefening om 5 uur 's ochtends.”

(If I win, you guys better set the alarm for the band practice at 5 in the morning.)

(Team, I need you folks more than ever! Win this Splatfest please for me!)

(Oh yes, and we celebrate the spring with this Splatfest, too! Do you folks have your equipment already?)
Ray

Pasquale

« Quand est-ce que vous faites ce que vous
avez à faire ? Le matin, l'aprèm ou le soir ? »

(When do you do what you have to do? In the morning, the afternoon or the evening?)
Raimi

« Ay ! (Ce festival va être un grand jour !) »

(Ay! (This Splatfest will be a great day!))
Pasquale

« Pour moi, c'est bien sûr le matin, quand l'air
est doux et que tout est possible. »

(For me, it's of course in the morning, when the air is sweet and everything is possible.)

Angie

« Nan, rien ne vaut l'aprèm ! C'est là que je
suis au top, prête à conquérir le monde ! »

(Nah, nothing beats the afternoon! It's when I'm at the top, ready to conquer the world!)

Raimi

« Ay.

(Ay. (In the evening, the worries of the day are behind us and we can concentrate.))

Angie

« Question ! Ce qu'on a à faire, comme tu dis,
ça peut être n'importe quoi ? »

(Question! What we have to do, like you say, can be anything?)
Pasquale

« Ça me paraît évident. Hobbies, devoirs,
boulot... Tout ça, ça compte. »

(It seems obvious to me. Hobbies, homework, work... All that counts.)

Raimi

« Ay. (Personnellement, c'est le soir que
je compose le mieux.) »

(Ay. (Personally, it's in the evening that I compose best.))

Raimi

« Ay... (Des fois, l'inspiration me prend dès

(Ay... (Sometimes, inspiration strikes me as soon as snack time and I don't see the night go by...))
Pasquale
« Au sortir d'une nuit blanche, je passe en
mode K.-O.[sic] toute la journée. »

(After a sleepless night, I am in K.O. mode all day.)

Raimi

« Ay.

(Ay. (But if you sleep, you're in Chaos mode all day, so if I want to work...))
Notes: In French, K.O. and Chaos sounds the same.
Angie
« Franchement, hier, je t'ai appelé que douze
fois en urgence, ça va. »

(Frankly, I only called you twelve times in an emergency yesterday, it's fine.)

Pasquale

« Si tu manques de temps, il suffit de te
lever tôt. Tu verras, c'est vivifiant. »

(If you're short on time, just get up early. You'll see, it's invigorating.)

Pasquale

« C'est au réveil que j'ai les idées les plus
claires, alors c'est là que je bosse. »

(It's when I wake up that I have the clearest ideas, so that's when I work.)
Angie
« Ouais, t'as toujours été une lève-tôt. »

(Yeah, you've always been an early riser.)
Pasquale

« Même mon écriture est plus belle le matin,
avant que la journée me tombe dessus. »

(Even my writing is more beautiful in the morning, before the day hits me.)
Raimi
« Ay. (Je sais ! D'ailleurs, je comprends
jamais rien à tes mémos après 10 heures.) »

(Ay. (I know! By the way, I never understand anything from your memos after 10 AM.))
Angie

« Je persiste et signe : vive l'aprèm.
Le soleil est à son zénith, et moi pareil ! »

(I reiterate: long live the afternoon. The sun is at its zenith, and so am I!)

Angie

« Et au moins, contrairement au matin ou au
soir, personne râle quand je sors ma flûte. »

(And at least, unlike in the morning or evening, no one complains when I take out my flute.)

Raimi

« Ay.

(Ay. (You are lucky that your neighbors don't take naps after lunch.))
Angie

« Nan, ils adorent ! Même qu'ils cognent dans
les murs pour m'accompagner aux percus. »

(Nah, they love it! They even bang on the walls to accompany me on the percussions.)

Angie
« D'ailleurs, je peux vous faire une démo
de flûte tout de suite si... »

(By the way, I can give you a flute demo right now if...)
Pasquale

« On va peut-être finir l'émission d'abord,
si t'y vois pas d'inconvénient ? »

(We will maybe finish the broadcast first, if you don't mind?)

Notes: Shiver starts speaking as soon as Frye finished her quote, interrupting her.

Raimi

« Ay ?

(Ay? (But by the way, when will we rehearse if we don't agree on this?))
Pasquale

« Il suffit de laisser le festival décider. On
calera les répètes en fonction du vainqueur. »

(Just let the Splatfest decide. We will schedule the rehearsals based on the winner.)

Pasquale

« Autrement dit, si je l'emporte, on déplace
les séances à 5 h du matin pétantes. »

(In other words, if I win, we move the sessions at 5 in the morning sharp.)
Angie

« Nan !

(No! Team afternoon has to win! It's a matter of bed or death!)
Notes: une question de lit ou de mort is a pun on une question de vie ou de mort ("a matter of life or death") and lit ("bed").
Angie

« Et oubliez pas l'équipement de printemps
dans les Nouvelles de la Nintendo Switch ! »

(And don't forget the Spring gear in the Nintendo Switch News!)
Raimi

« Ay ! (Oui, allez vite le récupérer !
Pour bien liquider, liquidez printanier !) »

(Ay! (Yes, go quickly get it! Spring splatting is good splatting!))

(Ay! (Night is the best time of day!))

(Was it that worthy to get up so early...)

«Как так?!!

(How?!! Did we oversleep?!)

(Ay. Ay! (Thank you, team «At night»! Indeed, the stars are brighter in the dark!))

(Team «In the morning» was there earlier than the others. Turns out, it was for nothing.)

(Team «In the afternoon», you tried so hard for me! So thank you either way!!!)

(Team «At night», did you even go to bed?! They were splatting round-the-clock!)

(I'd approve of such efficiency, if only it weren't US who got shredded like laminaria...)
Notes: Frye's pun comes from the Russian saying "кромсать как капусту" ("to shred like a cabbage"), meaning "to defeat with ease, to destroy", and морская капуста morskaya kapusta ("laminaria"), which literal meaning is "sea cabbage".

(Ay! Ay! (Hooray, a night practice awaits us! I can't wait!))

(Stop!!! It means that I'm free all day?!)

(Let's go bowling before the practice like we used to? It's been a while since we did this!)

(An excellent idea. I haven't had a very active lifestyle lately.)

(But then we'll have to miss the new shark documentary...)

(And why so?! We'll have time for everything, the day is long enough!)

(By the way, Big Man, didn't you want to buy a spring coat? Let's do it then!)

«Ик?!

(Ay?! (Did you remember?!))

(ALRIGHT! So, bowling in the morning, movies in the afternoon, and at night, it's shopping!)

(Ay! Ay! (A brilliant plan! But I think we're forgetting something...))

Trivia

  • The initial announcement for this Splatfest by the official North American Splatoon Twitter account named the second team "Noon" rather than its in-game name "Afternoon".[2]
  • The Pearlescent Squidkid IV have been depicted on the Dapple Dualies card since the release of Splatoon 3, making them the longest unavailable piece of gear depicted in Tableturf Battle until their addition alongside the SpringFest announcement on 21 March 2025.
  • Unlike most Splatfest reminders, the text in NintendoEurope and NintendoAUNZ's posts is different. The NintendoEurope post contains a pun on the word "spring", which is removed in the NintendoAUNZ post, likely due to Australia and New Zealand being in the southern hemisphere, where it is autumn instead of spring.
  • Team Night was the most popular team to win a Splatfest in Splatoon 3, overtaking Team Ghost by 5.55%. It was also the most popular Splatfest team in Splatoon 3 to date, overtaking Team Saturday by 2%.
