The Octo Shot (formerly Octoshot) is a weapon used by Octolings in the single-player campaigns of Splatoon and Splatoon 2 and by Agent 8 during the endgame of the Octo Expansion. The Octo Shot appears to have the same statistics as the S2 Weapon Main Splattershot.png Splattershot but with a different model and color scheme.

Appearance

The Octo Shot's ink tank is a large cylindrical tank with a black screw cap that rests on top of the main parts of the gun with a thick, plastic, black band wrapped around it, connecting the ink tank to the gun. From the top of the screw cap, a large wide tube bends in a U-turn fashion connecting the ink to the barrel of the Octo Shot, which resembles a pure black and miniature version of the ink tank, complete with a black screw cap. Below the barrel is a large handle with a small trigger that is held within one hand. Connecting on the remaining side of the barrel is a grip which is used with the other hand to grasp when firing. The grip is a silver-colored semi-cylinder with a black semi-cylinder coating the outside, complete with finger holds for grip. Connecting to the forward-facing side of the grip is a funnel-shaped silver nozzle. The default appearance and Octo Shot thumbnails portray the ink color to be a dark purple, resembling Callie's shade of ink.

Splatoon

In Splatoon, this weapon is called the Octoshot and is the only weapon used by Octolings in Octo Valley.

Octoshot Replica

Main article: Octoshot Replica

The S Weapon Main Octoshot Replica.png Octoshot Replica is a reward from S2 Icon Judd.png Judd for reaching Level 40. It is a shooter-type main weapon and is visually identical to the Octoshot. Despite its unique appearance, it is simply a reskin of the S Weapon Main Tentatek Splattershot.png Tentatek Splattershot, sharing the same stats and loadout, with S Weapon Sub Suction Bomb.png Suction Bombs as its sub weapon and the S Weapon Special Inkzooka.png Inkzooka as its special weapon.

Splatoon 2

In Splatoon 2, Octolings use a few different weapons, all of them being red-colored versions of the Hero weapons, such as the S2 Weapon Main Hero Dualies.png Hero Dualies or the S2 Weapon Main Hero Blaster.png Hero Blaster. However, the weapon representing the shooter class is not a red S2 Weapon Main Hero Shot.png Hero Shot, but rather the Octo Shot.

Octo Expansion

In the Octo Expansion, the Sanitized Octolings use even more red variants of the Hero weapons (such as the S2 Weapon Main Hero Brella.png Hero Brella and the S2 Weapon Main Herobrush.png Herobrush), and continue to use the Octo Shot as the shooter-class weapon. Elite Octolings with this weapon use the S2 Weapon Special Inkjet.png Inkjet as their special.

The Escape

The Octo Shot is found by Agent 8 during the Villi Phase of the underground escape and is used from that point until the end of the escape sequence. It is unused during most of the Diaphragm Phase where Agent 8 uses an infinite Inkjet. The Octo Shot is used within the boss fight against the mind-controlled Agent 3 and is furthermore used to activate Marina's hyperbombs during the final boss against the NILS Statue and Commander Tartar. It is also the weapon used in the bonus boss fight against Inner Agent 3.

Octo Shot Replica

Upon completion of the Octo Expansion main story, the S2 Weapon Main Octo Shot Replica.png Octo Shot Replica is available for online battles. It is identical in appearance to the Octo Shot, and in stats and loadout to the S2 Weapon Main Tentatek Splattershot.png Tentatek Splattershot. Notably, its sub weapon (S2 Weapon Sub Splat Bomb.png Splat Bomb) and special weapon (S2 Weapon Special Inkjet.png Inkjet) are identical to those collected during the Escape (Villi and Diaphragm phases, respectively), implying that the set was "built" by Agent 8 during that time, and just happens to match the Tentatek Splattershot set.

Trivia

  • It is the only weapon in the game that cannot be used in any way by the player in Splatoon. The Octo Expansion, however, lets Agent 8 use it.
  • The weapon is not tied to a specific weapon set just like other Hero weapons, where enemy Octolings in Octo Valley and Octo Canyon have only been seen using it with S2 Weapon Sub Splat Bomb.png Splat Bombs, while in the Octo Expansion they have been seen with different sets of specials and subs.
  • The Octo Shot bears a resemblance to the real-life IMI Uzi submachine gun.
