The Octobot King is a spherical device used by DJ Octavio in his boss fights, and has undergone multiple unique models.

Appearances

Splatoon 1

The original model, simply known as the Octobot King, is first fought in the mission Enter the Octobot King! of Splatoon's Octo Valley. It comes equipped with Octorpedoes, disco-ball like dodecahedron that summon enemies, a Killer Wail, two robotic fists, and a massive octopus-like bomb. Agent 3 must deflect the robotic fists and octopus bomb back at the Octobot King to damage him.

Splatoon 2

The second time it is fought, it is in a upgraded form called the Octobot King II and is fought in the mission Tide Goes Out of Splatoon 2's Octo Canyon. It has been modified to include a stage for Callie to perform on and lots of audio amplifiers. It retains the giant fists of the original model, but now comes equipped with giant versions of Splat Bombs and Suction Bombs, takoyaki-shaped bombs that create static tornadoes, and new speakers that functions similarly to a Splash Wall. In addition, the Octobot King's fists are now capable of spinning, making them immune to being inked temporarily. Similarly, Agent 4 must deflect the robotic fists back at the Octobot King.

Splatoon 3

The third time it is fought, it has the name of the Octobot King L3.Gs and is in the mission of the same name in Splatoon 3's Return of the Mammalians. It retains its robotic fists, which are now capable of slapping and pointing. In addition, it comes equipped with a Wave Breaker. The front speakers now double up as vents and an Ink Vac, with the most prominent feature being its ability to transform between bipedal and flying forms. At the end of the story, it is further modified to fly through space and use a brushroll-styled Ink Vac. DJ Octavio then uses it to rescue Agent 3 from space, and the two team up to use it to defeat Mr. Grizz.

Trivia

  • All models of the Octobot King are loosely modelled off of a Disco Ball.
  • The name of the L3.Gs resembles the word LEGS, and is a joking reference to the fact that this Octobot King has legs while the prior versions do not.
  • The Octobot King and Octobot King II are powered by the Great Zapfish, but the Octobot King L3.Gs is not. This may be the in-universe justification for why its fight (as the first boss of Splatoon 3) is less challenging than the fights with the previous two versions (as the final bosses of their respective campaigns).
