Trivia

  • In both games, this weapon was released to coincide with the Japanese tradition of kakizome ("first writing"), which is when one writes their first calligraphy of the year. SplatoonJP's Tweet on the weapon's release in Splatoon acknowledges this, jokingly telling players to have their "first inking."

Etymology

Octobrush Nouveau is a combination of Octo, Latin for 'eight', and Brush, as well as Nouveau, french for 'new'. Octo likely refers to either octopus, Octarians or Octolings. The word Nouveau may also refer to Art Nouveau. The suffix Nouveau is also used to differentiate it from the S2 Weapon Main Octobrush.png Octobrush. This trait is shared among the other alternate sets of the Nouveau Nouveau brand.

ホクサイ・ヒュー Hokusai Hyū is a reference to Katsushika Hokusai, a famous Japanese Ukiyo-e artist. ヒュー hyū refers to hue. Like Nouveau in the English name, Hue is used to differentiate it from the Octobrush.
