An orb.

The orb is a mechanic in the Octo Expansion. It is a sphere on a pole, covered in Agent 8's ink with a metal band across its equator.

An orb that has taken damage.

A life bar along the top of the screen indicates the orb's current health. As enemies attack the orb, its health decreases and it gradually becomes covered in their ink color. Firing at it with Agent 8's weapons or Ink Cannons refills its health, but usually not fast enough to negate enemy attacks. Orb missions require Agent 8 to defend the orb from enemy attacks for a set time, and the mission is failed if either Agent 8 or the orb run out of health.
