Paintball Mask

The Paintball Mask is headgear in the Splatoon series.

In Splatoon, it is a 3-star item produced by Forge and comes with the primary ability Comeback. It can be purchased from Cooler Heads for  10,000.

In Splatoon 2, it is a 3-star item produced by Forge and comes with the primary ability Comeback. It can be purchased from Headspace for  10,000 or from SplatNet 2 Gear Shop for  15,000.

In Splatoon 3, it is a 2-star item produced by Forge and comes with the primary ability Comeback. It can be purchased from Naut Couture for  10,000.

Appearance

The Paintball mask is a full-face paintball mask with a cap-like visor and a clear lens protecting the wearer's eyes. The mask is primarily light gray, covered in angular patterns which end in arrows, and secured to the wearer's head by two crossed straps. These straps, as well as the pattern on the mask itself, have two colors: black, and the wearer's Ink color. On the forehead portion of the mask is a small stamp of the Splatoon version of the Forge logo.

Abilities

The Paintball Mask comes with Comeback as the primary ability, which, being exclusive to the main slot of Headgear, prevents the wearer from also having Last-Ditch Effort, Opening Gambit, or Tenacity. As a 3-star item, the Paintball Mask comes with three additional slots for secondary abilities. Since it is made by the Forge gear brand, it has a higher chance of rolling Special Duration Up and a lower chance of rolling Ink Saver (Sub) to fill its secondary ability slots.

Splatoon 2

The Paintball Mask comes with Comeback as the primary ability when purchased from a shop or ordered from Murch, which, being exclusive to the main slot of Headgear, prevents the wearer from also having Last-Ditch Effort, Opening Gambit, or Tenacity. When purchased from SplatNet 2, it comes with any other primary ability normally available to Headgear. As a 3-star item, the Paintball Mask comes with three additional slots for secondary abilities. Since it is made by the Forge gear brand, it has a higher chance of rolling Special Power Up and a lower chance of rolling Ink Saver (Sub) to fill its secondary ability slots.

The Paintball Mask comes with Comeback as the primary ability when purchased from a shop or ordered from Murch, which, being exclusive to the main slot of Headgear, prevents the wearer from also having Last-Ditch Effort, Opening Gambit, or Tenacity. When purchased from SplatNet 3, it comes with any other primary ability normally available to Headgear. As a 2-star item, the Paintball Mask comes with three additional slots for secondary abilities. The star level may be increased with Super Sea Snails for 1 (first), 1 (second), 5 (third), 10 (fourth), or 20 (fifth) Super Sea Snails per star, or by purchasing additional copies of it from Naut Couture for 10,000 (first), 30,000 (second), 50,000 (third), 100,000 (fourth), or 200,000 (fifth) Cash per star. Increasing the star level beyond 2 stars will increase the gear experience gained by a cumulative 3.333…% up to 10% additional experience at 5-star level. Since it is made by the Forge gear brand, it has a higher chance of rolling Special Power Up and a lower chance of rolling Ink Saver (Sub) to fill its secondary ability slots.

Image discovered in Super Mario Maker

• A UI icon for an older version of the item was discovered in the data files for Super Mario Maker. In this version, the plastic is all white, the inner straps are orange instead of cyan, and the Forge logo is absent.
• The Paintball Mask is the most expensive piece of gear with Comeback in both Splatoon and Splatoon 2.

• The Paintball Mask is part of the Inkling Suit in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
