Squid Hairclip

The Squid Hairclip is headgear in the Splatoon series.

In Splatoon, it is a 2-star item produced by amiibo and comes with the primary ability Swim Speed Up. It is only available from the Inkling Girl or the Splatoon 2 series Inkling Girl 2 amiibo. It cannot be ordered from another player.

Appearance

The Squid Hairclip is a small barrette with the "S" from the Splatoon logo on it, including with the gray bubble pattern at the bottom, and with a pair of Inkling-like eyes at the top. Like the rest of the school gear, the Squid Hairclip's appearance changes based on the wearer's gender. If worn by a female, it is worn to the left of the bangs, and if worn by a male, it is worn on the band with which his tentacles are pulled back.

With the addition of hairstyle choices in Splatoon 2, the Squid Hairclip may be positioned differently depending on the wearer's style. It is generally worn on the left side of the head, with placement varying slightly between each style. However, for the two male styles in which the tentacles are pulled back, the Squid Hairclip is worn on the band used to do so. This does not occur for the two female styles in which the tentacles are pulled back.

For all female styles, the metal fastener of the Squid Hairclip is visible; for all male styles, it is absent.

Splatoon

The School Hairclip is available through use of any generation of the Inkling Girl amiibo.

Abilities

The Squid Hairclip comes with Swim Speed Up as the primary ability. As a 2-star item, the Squid Hairclip comes with two additional slots for secondary abilities, which may be increased to a maximum of three slots with a Super Sea Snail or 30,000 cash for each slot. Since it is made by the amiibo gear brand, it has equal chances to roll any secondary ability.

Unlock

To unlock the Squid Hairclip, the player must play the first set of missions from the Inkling Girl amiibo:

1. Octotrooper Hideout — Catch That Zapfish!
2. Lair of the Octoballs — Splat Your Way to the Top!
3. Rise of the Octocopters — Leap to Victory!
Boss 1: Squish, Squash, Smash... The Mighty Octostomp!

The Squid Hairclip is received after completing the boss challenge.

Splatoon 2

The Squid Hairclip is available only through use of the first generation Inkling Girl amiibo. The Inkling Girl 2 amiibo does not unlock this item. The player receives the Squid Hairclip upon talking to the amiibo.
