Squid Hairclip

The Squid Hairclip is headgear in the Splatoon series.

In Splatoon, it is a 2-star item produced by amiibo and comes with the primary ability Swim Speed Up. It is only available from the Inkling Girl or the Splatoon 2 series Inkling Girl 2 amiibo. It cannot be ordered from another player.

In Splatoon 2, it is a 2-star item produced by amiibo and comes with the primary ability Swim Speed Up. It is only available from the Inkling Girl amiibo. It cannot be ordered from another player.

In Splatoon 3, it is a 2-star item produced by amiibo and comes with the primary ability Swim Speed Up. It is only available from the Inkling Girl amiibo. It cannot be ordered from another player.

Appearance

The Squid Hairclip is a hairclip of the "S" from the Splatoon logo on it with a pair of cartoon eyes from the same logo at the top. The metal fastener of the hairclip only appears if worn by girls. How the hairclip is worn depends on the wearer's hairstyle.

Topknot and Hipster (Inkling): The Squid Hairclip is worn on the hairstyle's knot, including in the original Splatoon where the Topknot hairstyle is the only one available for Inkling boys.
Other hairstyles: The Squid Hairclip is worn on the side of the hair above the wearer's left ear. Exact placement varies between hairstyles.

Abilities

The Squid Hairclip comes with Swim Speed Up as the primary ability. As a 2-star item, the Squid Hairclip comes with two additional slots for secondary abilities, which may be increased to a maximum of three slots with a Super Sea Snail or 30,000 cash for each slot. Since it is made by the amiibo gear brand, it has equal chances to roll any secondary ability.

Unlock

To unlock the Squid Hairclip, the player must play the first set of missions from the Inkling Girl amiibo:

1. Octotrooper Hideout — Catch That Zapfish!
2. Lair of the Octoballs — Splat Your Way to the Top!
3. Rise of the Octocopters — Leap to Victory!
Boss 1: Squish, Squash, Smash... The Mighty Octostomp!

The Squid Hairclip is received after completing the boss challenge.

The Squid Hairclip comes with Swim Speed Up as the primary ability. As a 2-star item, the Squid Hairclip comes with three additional slots for secondary abilities. The star level may be increased with Super Sea Snails for 1 (first), 1 (second), 5 (third), 10 (fourth), or 20 (fifth) Super Sea Snails per star. Increasing the star level beyond 2 stars will increase the gear experience gained by a cumulative 3.333…% up to 10% additional experience at 5-star level. Since it is made by the amiibo gear brand, it has equal chances to roll any secondary ability.
