Staff are three denizens of Splatsville that appear in Splatoon 3. They can be seen around the town as well as in the Battle Lobby in various locations; one manages the Crab-N-Go, another runs the Tableturf Battle Dojo, and one acts as the recon guide. They seem to be more general characters that do not seem distinct from each other aside from work location and uniform. Per a card in Tableturf Battle, at least one of the Staff's names is Marigold.

Identity

Sunken Scroll 24 hints that "Marigold" is a shared pseudonym and identifies each of the Staff with the aliases Nishiyo Oranda, Poisson Rouge, and Ran Chi-Yu. It is unclear which name corresponds to which Staff, nor why any of them would need to go to such extreme measures to hide their true identities. Each of these aliases relates to goldfish in a way or another:

• Oranda refers to a breed of goldfish native to China and similar to the ranchū.
• Poisson Rouge is French for "goldfish." In the French localization of the game, the alias Poisson Rouge is replaced by Goldfish and the location also changes from a French place ("Rue de ⬛⬛") to an English one ("⬛⬛ Street").
• Chi-Yu (鲫鱼) is Chinese for "goldfish". The alias as a whole could also be a pun on ランチュウ (ranchuu): if the ュ (yu) kana is replaced by its uppercase form ユ, the word would then be pronounced ranchiyuu.

North America (English)

Crab-N-Go

• "Well, hello there! Welcome! This is your first time here, isn't it? How splendid! I do hope you'll become a regular here at the Crab-N-Go! I don't mean to boast, but our food doesn't just fill your belly - it can help fill your experience bar or even your wallet when you crab a snack before battle. Oh, I meant grab. Hee! Just one last thing before you order, dearie. We don't accept cash here. I'm afraid you'll need tickets. There! With that all said, what can I get for you today?" - When the player visits Crab-N-Go for the first time.
• "Everything is good!" - While selecting food and drink.
• "Are you sure?" - Upon choosing a meal or drink.
• "Thank you! Come again!" - After consuming a meal or drink.
• "Oh, you don't have any tickets? Well, I simply HATE to turn anyone away with an empty belly, but... Come back when you have some tickets, dear." - If a player tries to purchase food or drink without a ticket for it.

Recon Guide

• "Oh my! Welcome, sweetie. You new around here? That's just fine. We all started somewhere. I'm the local Recon Guide. I'll send you to any battle stage in any mode you like for a nice, safe stroll. It's a great way to get to know a place. And that's it! Have fun out there, alright? Oh! I plumb forgot to tell you how to leave recon. Well, it's easy as pie--just press , and you'll see it on the menu. And NOW that's it!" - When the player talks to the Recon Guide for the first time.
• "Going out for recon?" - When the player is selecting a mode and stage.

Tableturf Battle Dojo

• "Are you ready to battle?...Oh, honey. If you thought you could fool me, think again. You're not fresh enough yet! Come back at level 4. Just go to the lobby, try a few Turf War battles, and you'll be fresh as can be in no time splat. Good luck!"
• "This is the Tableturf Battle Dojo, sweetie! I'm so pleased to have you. You're not surprised to see me running the show here, are you? I may not be the youngest fish in the school, but that doesn't mean I'm not "with it."And it doesn't get any more "it" than Tableturf Battle! Simply EVERYONE is playing it right now. Probably since it's so easy to get a starter deck these days..."
• "Oh dear. I was so excited to see you that I forgot to check if you were online. And you're not! Come back and see me after you connect to the internet in the lobby, OK?"
• "Like this! You just got one!"
• "That deck I just gave you contains 15 cards. That's all you need to play Tableturf Battle with anyone! Now, I'm sure you're itching to get right into a battle, but I'm afraid I must insist that you read the manual first. It's long, but it's filled with all kinds of wonderful rules. Take a look!"
• "All done with your homework? Great! Don't worry if you don't understand every single thing right now. It's a complicated game! And experience is the best teacher. Come back anytime you want to give it a try, OK?"
• "Welcome, welcome!"
• "Are you here for- OH! Oh no. You don't have a single deck! That simply won't DO, dearie. Here's what you're going to do now. Open up your menu. Go to Status and look for Tableturf Battle. Build a deck there, and then come right back!"
• "Who will you battle?"
• "Oh, I'm so sorry, but it doesn't look like they're available right now. Why don't you try again another time?"

Dutch

Crab-N-Go
When visiting Crab-N-Go for the first time:

• "O, jij bent hier voor het eerst, hè? Wat enig! Ik hoop dat je snel kind aan huis bent bij Goudelieve's^[sic] Bikbalie! Ik wil niet opscheppen, maar wat ik hier verkoop, vult naast je maag ook je ervaringsmeter en misschien zelf je portemonnee. Nou, als je daarna niet vol zit! O, maar liefie, je moet weten dat we hier geen geld aannemen. Dat moet je maar ergens anders uitgeven. Wij willen alleen coupons! Nou, waar kan ik jou nou eens blij mee maken?"

(Oh, you're here for the first time, aren't you? How lovely! I hope you'll soon be a familiar face at Crab-N-Go! I don't want to brag, but what I sell here fills in addition to your stomach your experience bar and maybe even your wallet. Well, if you aren't full after that! When the player has no tickets.

Recon Guide
When talking to Recon Guide for the first time:

• "O, hallo liefie! Welkom! Ben jij nieuw hier? Wat spannend! Altijd leuk om aan iets nieuws te beginnen, vind je niet? Ik ben je gids in deze spannende, nieuwe wereld. Ik kan je elk level laten bezoeken, in elke stijl, voor een fijne, veilige wandeling. Perfect om je weg in een level te leren vinden! En meer is daar eigenlijk niet over te vertellen! Gewoon een beetje een kijkje nemen, op je dooie gemakje. O, misschien is het nog wel handig om te weten hoe je STOPT met een level verkennen! Je hoeft maar op te drukken om te pauzeren. Da's alles!"

(Oh, hello dearie! Welcome! Are you new here? How exciting! Always fun to start something new, don't you think? I am your guide in this exciting, new world. I can let you visit any stage, in any mode, for a nice, safe walk. Perfect for learning your way around a stage! And that's really all there is to it! Just take a little peek, at your leisure. Tableturf Battle Dojo
When talking to Staff while being below level 4:

• "O jeetje. Nee, nee, nee. Het spijt me ontzettend, maar ik mag klanten die niet vers genoeg zijn, niet helpen. Als je niveau 4 hebt, doe ik alles voor je! Ga eens in de lobby kijken en doe mee met wat Grondoorlogen, dan ben je zo vers als een vis voor je het doorhebt!"

(Oh gosh. No, no, no. I'm terribly sorry, but I'm not allowed to help customers who are not fresh enough. If you're level 4, I'll do anything for you! Go check out the lobby and join some Turf Wars, and you'll be as fresh as a fish before you realize!)

When talking to Staff for the first time while being level 4 or above:

• "Dit is de Slijkslagdojo! Ik ben blij om je guitige koppie hier te zien. Je kijkt er toch niet van op dat je mij hier tegenkomt, of wel soms? Ik ben dan misschien niet meer de jongste vis in de school, maar ik weet heus nog wel wat de kids blits vinden. En iets blitsers dan Slijkslag bestaat niet! Echt IEDEREEN heeft het erover! Misschien ook omdat je zo makkelijk aan een starterset kunt komen... Zoals deze! Alsjeblieft, voor jou en niemand anders!"

(This is the Tableturf Battle Dojo! I'm glad to see your cheeky face here. You're not surprised to see me here, are you? I may not be the youngest fish in the school anymore, but I still know what the kids think is fashionable. And there is no such thing as fashionable as Tableturf Battle! After recieving the starters deck:

• "Die set die ik je net heb gegeven, bevat 15 kaarten. Meer heb je er niet nodig om Slijkslag te spelen! Nou wed ik dat je tentakels jeuken om meteen aan de Slijkslag te gaan, maar ik moet erop aandringen dat je eerst de gebruiksaanwijzing leest. Die is lang, maar staat vol geinige regeltjes!"

(That set I just gave you contains 15 cards. That's all you need to play Tableturf Battle! Now I bet your tentacles are itching to get right to it, but I must insist that you read the instructions first. It's long, but full of funny little rules!)

After reading the manual:

• "Klaar met je huiswerk? Mooi! Maak je geen zorgen als je niet alles meteen snapte. Het is best lastig, en spelenderwijs leer je het het beste! Als je het een keer wilt uitproberen, moet je het gewoon aan mij vragen. Oké, liefie?"

(Finished your homework? Good! Don't worry if you didn't understand everything right away. It's quite tricky, and you learn best through play! If you want to try it out sometime, just ask me. Okay, dearie?)

When talking to Staff while not connected to the internet:

• "O, maar liefie... Ik was zo blij om je te zien, dat ik niet heb gekeken of je online bent. En dat ben je niet! Dan vis je helaas achter het internet. Maak verbinding in de lobby, oké?"

(Oh, but dearie... I was so happy to see you, I didn't check to see if you were online. And you are not! Then you are unfortunately missing out. Make connection in the lobby, okay?)

When talking to Staff:

• "Hallo, leuk je te zien!"

(Hello, nice to see you!)

When the player has no deck:

• "Ben jij hier voor een potje... O! Maar zeg! Je hebt helemaal geen set kaarten om mee te spelen! Zo wordt het niks, liefie. Maar ik weet het goed gemaakt. Kijk eens in je menu, kies daar SPELER en dan SLIJKSLAG. Stel daar een fijne set samen en dan spreken wij elkaar weer! Tot zo!"

(Are you here for a game of... Oh! But hey! You don't have a set of cards to play with! That's not gonna work, dearie. But I'll make a deal with you. Look in your menu, choose PLAYER and then TABLETURF BATTLE. Put together a nice set there and we'll talk again! See you soon!)

When selecting an opponent:

• "Tegen wie wil je spelen?"

(Who do you want to play against?)

When selecting an opponent that is not available:

• "O, ik vind het heel jammer, maar die lijkt nu even niet beschikbaar om te spelen. Anders probeer je het een ander keertje?"

(Oh, I'm very sorry, but that one doesn't seem to be available to play right now. Will you try it another time?)

Grizzco
When selecting items:

• "Geef maar een gil als je wat leuks tegenkomt."

(Just give a shout if you come across something fun.)

When not having enough fish scales:

• "O, zeesterretje toch! Je hebt niet genoeg visschubben. Dan zul je nog wat Salmonstertjes moeten opruimen!"

(Oh, little starfish! You don't have enough fish scales. You'll have to get rid of some more little King Salmonids!)

When selecting an item the player already owns of which they can only own one:

• "Hm, heb je die niet al? Sorry, maar meer dan één kan ik je daar niet van geven. Dat zou niet eerlijk zijn!"

(Hm, don't you already have that one? Sorry, but I can't give you more than one of that one. That wouldn't be fair!)

When selecting an item the player hasn't unlocked:

• "Sorry, ik geloof niet dat je daar klaar voor bent. Maar misschien als je nog wat visschubben zou uitgeven..."

(Sorry, I don't think you're ready for that. But maybe if you would spend some more fish scales....)

While selecting an item:

• "Deze, zonnevisje van me?"

(This one, little sunfish of mine?)

When unlocking the first milestone items:

• "Wat ben je toch ook een zee-engeltje. Dank je wel! We hebben trouwens net nieuwe spulletjes, als je die wilt zien!"

(What a little sea angel you are. Thank you so much! By the way, we just got some new goodies, if you want to see them!)

When unlocking the second milestone items:

• "Nou nou, jij geeft geld uit als een goudbrasem! En hier sta ik dan, met m'n verse voorraad zeldzame spulletjes om te verkopen... Kun jij mijn probleem misschien verhelpen?"

(Well well, you spend money like a goldbream! And here I am, with my fresh stash of rare goodies to sell... Could you possibly fix my problem?)

Trivia

• Staff resemble goldfish, with notable similarities between the tops of their heads and both the oranda and ranchū goldfish species.
• The attendant behind the counter at the Grizzco building has the same voice as the Staff.
