Spanish (NA) dialogue seems to be wrong

For the looks of it, it seems machine translated from english or japanese and it's full of grammatical errors. Should it be directly transcribed from Lenny's Github page with the original Spanish dialogue? And should the EU Spanish dialogue also be added? Maruv2 (talk) 17:23, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

I'm not a Spanish speaker by any means, but I consulted the NA Spanish github file at least in small part and the dialogue here seems to match it (including some terms that I don't think machine tl would handle very cleanly, like 'Tableturf Battle' becoming 'combate carterritorial'), so I'm kind of curious about any specific examples you've noticed? Regardless, if you notice any quotes that don't match up with the dialogue as listed in-game or on the github I would invite you to fix them yourself if you're open to doing so! I have checked the GitHub and although some parts are similar, it doesn't match up. And yes, I am checking the NA dialogue, I almost got them confused at first. This is the Spanish NA Harmony dialogue in case of a draw, transcribed directly from the GitHub: "¿Eh? Un empate..." "Bueno, ya volveremos a jugar en otro momento."

And this is the one in the wiki: "Hm. Dibujar. Fue divertido de alguna manera. Me encantaría volver a jugar contigo si quieres."

The Spanish version is barely coherent and it doesn't match up with the one in the linked file. Same with all the other dialogue. It might be similar, but it's not the same and it has very bad grammar. Maruv2 (talk) 16:50, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

I see. Well, as I had said I'm not a fluent speaker and so I had only checked a couple examples, so it's possible that it was partly transcribed by one person and then partly poorly translated by another. If you are a fluent speaker, I would again invite you to please lend us your expertise if you can! I can only speak for myself, but I'm not confident in my ability to directly compare or transcribe from a language I hardly know (not without a considerable amount of time and potentially some guesswork, neither of which would be very ideal for our standards). I'll definitely try! I am a native speaker but I have no experience in wikia editing, so I'll take precautions to not mess anyhthing up. Also, is there a way to deal with unicode characters when transcribing the text or does one have to change them manually? Because of course, the original text looks like this "\u00a1No! \u00bfC\u00f3mo pudo pasar esto?\nVoy a tener que estudiar m\u00e1s..." and changing every unicode character manually takes quite some time. I can assure you your best effort is still appreciated! Any of the github files that end in '_unicode.json' have the corresponding characters rendered normally, so if you copy from there you should be all set and you won't have to worry about changing them. Here's a link to the folder containing the different languages if you don't already have it ("USes" is American Spanish, "EUes" is European Spanish. No, this is the real translation. As seen here: (Sheldon's Github Spanish quotes).This might just be a copying mistake... but it's real. You might have confused EU Spanish with US Spanish. -Random 19:07, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

Well, for starters, I think it might have been either incorrectly transcribed or machine translated then corrected a little. It's missing a lot of punctuation, like opening exclamation marks or periods. A notable example is the fact that it translates "draw" as "dibujo". Dibujo means drawing or to draw but in the artistic sense. So that's what made me think this was machine translated, and there's a lot of other errors like that. Wikia text:

"¡Qué sorteo inesperado! Lo estás haciendo bastante bien~ ¡Puedes reconocerme como tu rival!"

Again, it doesn't make sense. It uses the word "sorteo", which means lottery/raffle and as you probably know, can also be translated as "draw". Maruv2 (talk) 17:01, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

In that case, the Spanish translation might be a machine translation. Some of it is correct even if it is machine translation, so keep an eye out for that. Also, for changing unicode to text, I suggest checkserp.com it's what I use to convert text. -Random 18:57, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

Translating quotes?

Hello, I would like to know if quotes in non-English languages should be translated or not, as noone of them have a translation. Are they supposed to be kept this way or can I add a translation for the Italian ones (and maybe report some other ones if I can)? Spleet (talk) 19:16, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
