City of Color or Inkopolis Sinker?

I noticed that on this page, as well, as others, that the Splatfest Lobby Theme is given the name City of Color / City of Colour. However, wouldn't a more accurate translation be Inkopolis Sinker, as is directly taken from Splatune? Jed1ndy (talk) 03:01, 27 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Perhaps, "Inkopolis Sinker" is someone's translation of ハイカラシンカ. but I think "Haikara Evolution" is more correctly. --Azoth (talk) 03:26, 27 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ah, Splatune tells "High-Color Evolution" for ハイカラシンカ's English title in Japan region. --Azoth (talk) 03:29, 27 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, I noticed that as well. ハイカラシンカ literally translatesto / is read as "High-Color Sinker," or "Haikara Sinker," though Also, the Japanese name for Inkopolis is "High-Color City". Jed1ndy (talk) 03:38, 27 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, We can get the "Official translations" for the titles of the musics. how should these do?--Azoth (talk) 03:44, 27 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, I guess that would work. In the "Sinker" vs. "Evolution" department, I can't figure out which one they meant. 進化 (Shinka) does mean "evolution," however, since they spelled it as シンカ (Also Shinka), it is more often than not read as "sinker." Maybe it's just a joke that doesn't make sense outside of Japanese, and is supposed to mean both. Jed1ndy (talk) 03:58, 27 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hm...I think these "Official translations" are not necessarily same as "Official English titles". So, We can have the three now, "Original Japanese title", "Official translation in Japan region", and "Fan Translation". And in the future, we can add the "Official English title" instead of "Fan Translation", right? --Azoth (talk) 04:06, 27 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The reason I think so is, for example, the Kelp Dome's "Official translation" is "MOZUKU Farm" in Ikasu Artbook. So I have some hesitation to add these information of official translations. --Azoth (talk) 04:13, 27 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay, so I looked it up on Squid Beatz, and the official title is, indeed, City of Color. I do think, however, that ハイカラシンカ is supposed to be High-Color Sinker and not High-Color Evolution, however, the world may never know. While going to the back of the Splatune CD may seem like a good idea, it can be incorrect times, i.e., "SE: Voice Sea O'colors cliche" should be something more akin to "SE: Voice Sea O'colors motto". However, like I said, I don't think there really is a correct answer on the subject of that debate. Thanks for the help, though. Jed1ndy (talk) 04:17, 27 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Fan Covers?

Is that section of the page really needed? Feels a bit like a way to artificially lengthen the page.--RacattackForce (talk) 07:33, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I would say no. It doesn't fit in with the rest of the article. Also, there is an issue with notability. Which fan covers would go on here? Which wouldn't? AmbientDinosaurSig.pngAmbientDinosaurSigTalk.png 15:22, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay, thanks. --RacattackForce (talk) 18:54, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Turquoise October Source

Are the Turquoise October songs on this article from the Splatune CD or from game rips? If they're game rips, then they're not all the variants used in Squid Beatz. I can upload the correct versions if need be, but if the article uses music from the CD, it should stay as it is. --GuyPerfect (talk) 02:25, 29 July 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Splatoon 2 Music

Once the game comes out in a few weeks, how are we going to handle the new tracks? Do we create a new "Music in Splatoon 2" page and re-title this one to "Music in Splatoon"? Or do we create a new section? I'm leaning toward the former myself. --RacattackForce (talk) 16:13, 7 July 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Calamari Inkantation

Remixes aside, given that we now know this song (more than any other) has such a major impact on the lore, would that warrant this song having its own page? Just curious. -DJParticle (talk) 14:33, 20 June 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Octo Expansion

Unlike the other tracks, Cap'n Cuttlefish's theme and all the music from Deep Sea Metro has "mp3" in the links instead of "ogg" to the point where it goes to another page to play the music. How do we make them "ogg" links so everyone can listen to that music on their computers?

Japanese Names

Quick thought: while it is good that we have the Japanese titles of songs and bands for reference, is it worth still listing them here in relation to songs or bands that have their own pages now? As an example, Broken Coral and Riptide Rupture both have their Japanese titles listed despite both songs now having pages. Just wondered if this would improve readability of the page! GloverMist (talk) 21:43, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I suppose we could remove them, at least once we have the respective page for each song. After all, we don't have the Japanese names for lists of things like stages or weapons. But ultimately, I don't mind what the final decision on this is. ShinyCelesteela (talk) 23:09, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hmm, what about the Japanese names on the album pages? Do we just leave them as they're Japanese only albums, or do we remove the japenese for consistency?  KA467 🗩 🖿  23:22, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I’d guess keep them on the album pages because, as you said, they are Japanese albums (even if readability on those pages isn’t great). But if you think I’m being too pedantic about all this, feel free to do what you want! GloverMist (talk) 09:20, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, I'd keep the names on the album pages, since they'd more accurately reflect the tracklist of the albums as written, even if the names are different than they are in English. ShinyCelesteela (talk) 11:22, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Audio Files

Since the audio files on this page are no longer links and are directly the file (I hope this makes sense sorry), should we change the audio links on the song pages themselves too, like what happened with Inkoming!? --SundaeSquidS Weapon Main Octobrush.pngTalk 12:35, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sounds perfect to me. In my opinion, it improves the usability of everything and certainly makes the tables on this page look much better! GloverMist (talk) 12:46, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Album art w/ song files?

Either Splatune or in-game album. Inkling project paintball font eleven23.png Inkling project paintball font eleven23 talk.png Eleven23 splatoon font 3.png 20:33, 3 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean.  KA467 🗩 🖿  21:31, 3 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So we re-upload the files, but each file has either the Splatune cover or the in-game cover. For example, Splattack could have the Splatune cover or the in-game album attached w/ the file. It's like saying that a real-life album doesn't have its corresponding album art w/ it. Inkling project paintball font eleven23.png Inkling project paintball font eleven23 talk.png Eleven23 splatoon font 3.png 06:37, 4 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Umm, so you're proposing we attach album art to music files? Is that even possible, I never uploaded a music file before. I mean, if you can do that, sure why not.  KA467 🗩 🖿  19:36, 5 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Right on the money. Thanks for letting me do so. I've settled on in-game album art. Inkling project paintball font eleven23.png Inkling project paintball font eleven23 talk.png Eleven23 splatoon font 3.png 19:51, 5 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Based on your edit to the music page todo about lossy-lossy transcoding twice, I am certain you don't know what you are doing when it comes to audio, so I strongly suggest not doing any of this. I don't see how this would benefit the wiki anyways. Heddy (talk) 01:11, 6 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I know I'm new to Inkipedia, but in my defence the so-called 'lossy-lossy transcoding' was for people who wanted to participate in re-uploading the files with the album art attached to it. The whole idea, though, was so that anybody downloading the song content from this site would actually have a know-how basis of what album it is from.
Although, your comment of 'I don't see how this would benefit the wiki anyways' actually overwrites the purpose of the original idea, in which it now seems pointless. And anyways, my comment of 'a real-life album doesn't have its corresponding album art with it' is what this whole point was about. It's just the 'what if' factor that got me into this perspective. I asked myself:
  • What if you didn't have a name?
  • How would you be classified? (As in who would know who you are)
And that's exactly what questions I directed to the files: they don't have an album art, and therefore they cannot be classified. Ask yourself these questions; maybe that could change your mind. But I don't even care about this anymore, because I quoted 'it now seems pointless'.
So... sorry. Inkling project paintball font eleven23.png Inkling project paintball font eleven23 talk.png Eleven23 splatoon font 3.png 07:54, 6 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Long Load Times

This page loads way too slowly. My guess is that it's all of those audio files. Of course, this would be kinda hard to fix without completely changing the page for the worse, unless we modify the engine directly. I just find it annoying to wait for so long every time I load this page, so I thought I'd bring this up. -tecanec (talk) 06:58, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

My web browser's network inspection tool is reporting a 1.90 second load time without the audio, and a 6.45 second load time with the audio. Further, the inspection tool reveals that audio files are actually being downloaded without me pressing the play button! This is unacceptable, because the 20+ megabyte page sizes will make the page unbearably slow on some connections. This is most likely a technical issue with MediaWiki that will have to be resolved by their developers. The easy solution is just linking to the file instead of having a player, which I have done. Heddy (talk) 00:36, 13 April 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Nice. I may or may not have been able to fix this myself (I'm also a programming hobbyist), but I, of course, don't have access to the engine. The best we could do is probably to report it to the developers. tecanec (talk) 08:13, 13 April 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

FinalFest now or never

Are we sure the new Now or Never is official? I haven’t listened to it yet, because if it is real, it’s a spoiler ;u; but the only explanation the editor who added it gave was “sounds official to me”, so I was wondering if there was some kind of official source it came from. 〜SplatterskytalkOE Icon Pearl.png

Various dataminers have uploaded it and other similar in-game files, so that pretty much speaks as to how official it is. Hadamsj (talk) 08:56, 8 July 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Final Fest Songs

I hate to be a bother, but does anyone have the versions of "Shark Bytes" and "The Plan" for Final Fest that we can add? They are separate tracks, with "The Plan" looping, and "Shark Bytes" being sped up slightly. How do I Fix This?

When I want to listen to a certain song, Nasty Majesty, for example, it says Error and won't let me play it. There are a whole bunch of other songs that have this, too. Does anyone know how to fix this?

If so, please do so or contact me immediately. Thank You! Callieplayz279 (talk) 21:10, 16 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Try playing some other files and seeing if they come up with Error too. As far as I’m aware, OGG files (such as Nasty Majesty) don’t play on certain things, such as mobile devices, while MP3 and WAV files do. Cap’n Cuttlefish’s Theme, at the top of the Octo Expansion box, is an MP3 and may play without an error. If so, there’s your answer! Hope this helps! GloverMist (talk) 21:52, 16 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank You! Callieplayz279 (talk) 23:55, 16 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It depends what are you seeing. Is it just 'error' or do you see more, like the unload text? FunPL#0529 (talk) 05:55, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Right now I've been seeing the 'Error' and at the far right side of the play bar (which is replaced by the Error),a little TV sign. I tried replacing the OGG with the MP3 but it didn't let me do any thing. Callieplayz279 (talk)
Yeah, I don’t believe this is something we can fix. The file type can’t be changed by simply typing MP3 at the end, it needs to be saved and re-uploaded differently. In the end, I think this is just a problem of OGG files not playing from the browser on mobile, sadly. Luckily, there are other ways to find the music! GloverMist (talk) 22:15, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, this is most likely not fixable, but I still want to know some stuff for the future:
  1. What is your browser? (If you know)
  2. Does the audio on this page work?

Errors

My browser keeps on having errors on most of the music files, does anybody know why that would be? £|_@|\/|€1232 (talk) 16:41, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I updated the thing that loads the music files, it might take a moment for them to update for you. Try loading them after a minute and if you still see an error, tell me the ID written next to it. If there isn't an ID next to the error text, wait a bit longer and then try again. > Fumple (-> talk) 17:28, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It doesn’t appear to be working, but, that is probably just a mobile problem. It works on the computer, so... Well, I’ll survive. Thanks! £|_@|\/|€1232 (talk) 14:26, 29 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
