Thanks for your contributions!

Hello! Just a quick message to say thanks for all your hard work in expanding the strategy sections of our weapons pages so far. It's fantastic what you've got done, and really helpful! I should have thanked you for it before, honestly. Keep up the great work! GloverMist (talk) 18:41, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Strategy sections

Thanks for contributing to the weapon articles! The strategy sections are super useful but the tactics and recommended abilities written are coming from a competitive standpoint and are very opinion based. they differ on weapon capabilities and playstyle. What we thought about is to move the tactics to the comeptitive space [[Competitive:Splattershot]]. We used to have recommended abilities section for the first game and it was removed due to it being subjective. We'd like to invite you to our Discord server to #inkipedia channel to discuss the matter with us. ShaharSig2.pngShaharSigtalk2.png 15:22, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Great job so far with the move of Junior and K. Jr. to strategy pages. I've removed the repetitive information that is already on the main page and created a template for linking to them. I've left a stub section for Splatoon 1 regarding strategy as it might differ between games in differences between kits, Some articles already had recommended abilities from the first game that got removed so you could find them in the history tab and add it in. If you think a different structure would better fit, suggest the idea on Ink Pump or Discord. If you want to keep track of which weapon strategy articles you already did and which ones you'll have to do, you can keep track by copying the table from my weapon list with checkmarks into your user space User:YourUsername/Draft (you can replace "Draft" with a different name). You can also see which ones were moved by looking at Category:Strategy. ShaharSig2.pngShaharSigtalk2.png 10:16, 21 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I made an infobox for weapon strategy articles. Let me know if you have any suggestions for improvements before I implement it. ShaharSig2.pngShaharSigtalk2.png 20:48, 3 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That looks like a good idea, allowing the Quick facts section to be moved there. I suggest keeping Base damage, Ink consumption, and Special points since they would be very relevant to strategy.DaDoc540 (talk) 22:54, 3 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The infobox is now ready, you are welcome to replace the old infoboxes in the existing pages. I put it in the Junior page as an example and cleaned that page a bit. Next thing I'm working on is the recommended abilties, having a notability policy backing it so it won't be easily changed. ShaharSig2.pngShaharSigtalk2.png 16:23, 9 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

RE: Weapon data

Can you share what specifically you have in mind for weapon data on strategy pages? The same data, but in a table instead? I can get started on it once I know what you have in mind. Heddy (talk) 22:49, 31 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image on strategy Infobox

If you'd like to have the promo render image in the infobox, you can move the file's name to the format 'S/S2 Weapon's name promo render.jpg' or add 'image = filename' to the infobox. ShaharSig2.pngShaharSigtalk2.png 16:35, 10 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for the advice. I just did it for Competitive:Tri-Slosher. (The S2 image was on the S infocard.) DaDoc540 (talk) 01:01, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I see you've been adding the parameter image to the infobox when it's redundant. As you can see from the template, adding that parameter is optional, it is an override image to use. If absent, the image filename will be determined automatically, which is the filename of: S_{{PAGENAME}}_promo_render.jpg. You can move the filename to fit the one determined automatically or use the image override when the filename doesn't match. You don't need to write the image parameter in case they match. Hope this helps! :) Shahar (talk) 23:10, 1 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That saves me time and trouble! I just removed redundant images and will check each Strategy page if the default image matches each time from now on. DaDoc540 (talk) 23:40, 1 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Using weapon abbreviations in strat articles?

Hello, I'm bringing this up with you since you're basically the main person creating these (amazing job btw). I'm mostly concerned about improving the flow of the pages by using the weapon's abbreviation as denoted by the infobox. For example, stuff like this can get really clunky to read fast:

"Traditional chargers – such as the Splat Charger, the Splatterscope, and the E-liter 4K – and longer-range splatlings – namely, the Ballpoint Splatling (225.04-237.094 DU) and the Hydra Splatling (203.92-257.68 DU) – clearly outrange the Bamboozler 14 Mk I and can simply zone out an opposing Bamboozler 14 Mk I user. However, be prepared to dodge any Tenta Missiles the opposing Bamboozler 14 Mk I user launches.

While the Dynamo Roller (two-hit range of 200 DU), Explosher (200 DU), and the Heavy Splatling (178.05-218.37 DU) each can outrange the Bamboozler 14 Mk I, they only barely do so, and the Bamboozler 14 Mk I's quicker, more powerful shots prevent a user of any of the former three weapons from fully zoning out an opposing Bamboozler 14 Mk I user."

I think for this example, simply using the term "Bamboozler" instead of the full weapon name would greatly improve readability. Same goes for any other weapons with really long names. What do you think?

This does not sound like a bad idea, but methinks we will have to run this with someone who is higher up in authority, such as Shahar (talk). DaDoc540 (talk) 14:03, 23 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
There is no need to ask permission to edit if you are certain that you are making an improvement. See Wikipedia's be bold policy to see what I mean!
In my opinion, saying "Bamboozler" instead of "Bamboozler 14 Mk I" is fine. But using some abbreviations from the infobox, like "Bamboo" or "V-shot", just seems rushed and unprofessional. We have unlimited space in these articles, so don't go too far with abbreviations! I agree that using "Bamboozler" would be an improvement to the flow of the page.
@Shahar, DaDoc540 wants your opinion, do you have an opinion on this? Heddy (talk) 04:18, 26 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
There are little to no restrictions with the competitive space. I think the same way you point out any series with their name, should be with the bamboo, without the variant. Bamboozler 14 seems fine to me. Shahar (talk) 13:58, 26 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New Strategy Ideas

Do you think we should put in Salmon Run and/or Routing (for stages) sections for Strategy Pages? Please tell me your opinion. dedf1sh07[talk]S2 Gear Headgear Golden Toothpick.png 19:41, 3 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Creating Strategy pages for each of the individual stages/maps would be a great next step. For example, a Strategy page for The Reef would start out with a general description about the map structure (large but with multiple areas and means to leave spawn, importance of controlling the Bridge, potential hiding places for sharks – Wadsm made a video for this, a little dated, but most tips still work) and specific sections for each of the five modes of battle including Turf War (e.g. means of locking out defense during Splat Zones and Tower Control, optimal Rainmaker routes for different situations — Kiver has a great video illustrating these routes). Salmon Run maps can also be treated similarly, with a section for general waves at mid tide and for specific situations (e.g. high tide, Griller waves, etc.)

Weapon reception in strategy articles

With Shahar's approval, I went ahead and tried a new section on Competitive:Dualie Squelchers. I was wondering if there was anything you would want to add and also just letting you know in case you wanted to add similar sections to any future or preexisting articles.

I think I saw you in ranked just now

Your username was "DaDoc540" and you were using the Tri-Slosher. I was using the Nautilus 79 and we ended up victorious. dedf1sh07[talk] 04:04, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
