Wiki Help

I don't know what user to talk to about this. I hear that you went independent from Wikia. I would like to do the same for amiibowiki, so i have some questions.

  1. Does it cost money?
  2. Do you keep all of your pages, templates, images, etc. from Wikia?
  3. How do you do it period?

Please answer. I would love to move amiibo Wiki to Wikimiibo. Thanks, Trainiax (talk) 13:47, 6 July 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

PS: Respond on my page so I see it!

Hi Trainiax, I currently take care of the hosting for Inkipedia.
  1. Yes. I also host strategywiki (which has ads) and use that to pay for hosting for inkipedia.
  2. Everything was exported from Wikia and then re-imported to the new wiki.
  3. Was a fair bit of work :).
    1. Work with the community to make sure people agree (a website is nothing without a community)
    2. Get server hosting and run the mediawiki software (or find someone to do it for you)
    3. Export data from old wiki
    4. Import data to new wiki
    5. Re-point people to the new wiki
    6. Style the new wiki
Alternatively, you could merge into another site which is already independent. NintendoWiki or StrategyWiki (or both) would be a great fit for all the Amiibo info. -- Prod (talk) 16:42, 6 July 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
