Weapons are tools used in Splatoon and Splatoon 2 to spread ink and splatter enemy Inklings. They can be purchased from Ammo Knights with Cash earned from online multiplayer matches. Weapons are always in a predefined set of a Main Weapon, a Sub Weapon, and a Special Weapon. Sub Weapons, or secondary weapons, consume considerably more ink than Main Weapons and usually serve specialized purposes limited to specific combat situations. Special Weapons are powerful weapons that can only be used after filling up the Special Gauge by covering enough ground with ink.

Splatoon

All weapons have two versions: the original, and an alternate with a different Sub and Special Weapon setup and a slightly different appearance. With the addition of Sheldon's Picks, some weapons gained a third version with yet another set of Sub and Special Weapons.

Sub

The Sprinkler, Splash Wall, and Splat Bomb.
  • File:S Weapon Burst Bomb .png [[]] – The Burst Bomb is a water balloon-esque bomb that explodes on impact. Because it contains less ink than a Splat Bomb, multiple can be thrown quickly and two must be used in order to splat an opponent.
  • File:S Weapon Disruptor .png [[]] – The Disruptor slows enemies down and lowers their abilities.
  • File:S Weapon Ink Mine .png [[]] – The Ink Mine can be hidden in ink, and will explode after a short amount of time or when an enemy touches it.
  • File:S Weapon Point Sensor .png [[]] – The Point Sensor reveals the locations of enemies and marks them for all teammates to see for easy tracking.
  • File:S Weapon Seeker .png [[]] – The Seeker is a mechanical device that follows enemies and leaves a trail of ink behind. Upon reaching its target or after a certain amount of time, it explodes into a large burst of ink.
  • File:S Weapon Splash Wall .png [[]] – The Splash Wall forms a barrier made of falling ink that prevents enemy movement and fire.
  • File:S Weapon Splat Bomb .png [[]] – The Splat Bomb is the standard Sub Weapon. It is a pyramidal container filled with ink that explodes after a short period of time.
  • File:S Weapon Sprinkler .png [[]] – The Sprinkler can be thrown onto a variety of surfaces and sprays out spurts of ink in a circular motion for a short amount of time.
  • File:S Weapon Squid Beakon .png [[]] – The Squid Beakon is a device that allows teammates to Super Jump directly to its location.
  • File:S Weapon Suction Bomb .png [[]] – The Suction Bomb sticks to walls and other surfaces, exploding shortly after.

Special

The Killer Wail, Inkzooka, and Inkstrike.
  • File:S Weapon Bomb Rush .png [[]] – The Bomb Rush allows the player to use their Sub Weapon with no Ink restriction for a short time.
  • File:S Weapon Bubbler .png [[]] – The Bubbler is a spherical force field that rebounds enemy attacks and can be spread to teammates. It is available for a short amount of time.
  • File:S Weapon Echolocator .png [[]] – The Echolocator reveals the locations of all enemies for teammates to see on the field and on the width=auto map. It is available normally for twelve seconds.
  • File:S Weapon Inkstrike .png [[]] – The Inkstrike can be placed using width=auto and causes a large, swirling vortex of ink to appear.
  • File:S Weapon Inkzooka .png [[]] – The Inkzooka shoots tall, narrow twisters of ink in rapid succession, allowing for quick placement of linear paths and splatting of enemies.
  • File:S Weapon Killer Wail .png [[]] – The Killer Wail blasts a large sound wave in a certain direction that obliterates all enemies in its path and travels through walls.
  • File:S Weapon Kraken .png [[]] – The Kraken allows Inklings to temporarily transform into large, invincible, kraken-like creatures with enhanced mobility and power.

Splatoon 2

In Splatoon 2 new weapons have been added, and returning weapons have all new designs. Because no Special Weapons return from the first game, all the Special weapons are changed as well. While some weapons retain the same Sub Weapon others have the Sub Weapon changed, such as the Splat Roller, which has Curling Bombs instead of Suction Bombs. Blasters and Brushes have also been recognized as their own weapon classes.

Main

Shooter

Shooter/List of Shooters in Splatoon 2

Roller

In Splatoon 2, the Player now flicks the Roller vertically in the air while jumping, ink travels in a vertical line rather than a horizontal splash, and it travels much farther than a grounded flick. Roller/List of Rollers in Splatoon 2

Charger

In Splatoon 2 the player can now charge up a shot, go into squid form, and for a brief period of time they can turn back into a kid and the charger shoots automatically. The player now lights up while charging a shot, and if the player is charging a shot, and goes into squid form, the player also glows. Charger/List of Chargers in Splatoon 2

Slosher

Splatlings

Dualies

Dualies are a new weapon class introduced in Splatoon 2 that utilize 2 shooters instead of one allowing a wider range. Dualies also gain the ability to roll by jumping twice, from boosters built into the guns, and the player can roll twice in a row as well. The screen displays two targets, which briefly merge into one after a roll. Dualies/List of Dualies in Splatoon 2

Brellas

Brellas are a new class of weapon that was added in an update for Splatoon 2. They are somewhat slow-firing weapons that feature an umbrella that opens up when ZR is held, which protects against frontal attacks. Holding it down for longer than 2 seconds launches the umbrella forward, inking the ground as it moves while retaining its ability to deflect shots. However, doing so disables usage of the umbrella shield for a short time afterwards. Brellas/List of Brellas in Splatoon 2

Sub

  • File:S2 Weapon Autobomb .png [[]] – A new Sub Weapon that is a walking robot bomb. It does not leave an ink trail.
  • File:S2 Weapon Burst Bomb .png [[]] – Returning from the first game, the Burst Bomb is a water balloon-esque bomb that explodes on impact. Because it contains less ink than a Splat Bomb, multiple can be thrown quickly and two must be used in order to splat an opponent.
  • File:S2 Weapon Curling Bomb .png [[]] – A new Sub Weapon that leaves a trail of ink behind it and bounces off walls and obstacles before exploding in a burst of ink.
  • File:S2 Weapon Ink Mine .png [[]] – Returning from the first game, the Ink Mine can be hidden in ink, and will explode after a short amount of time or when an enemy touches it. Two mines can now be placed during a game.
  • File:S2 Weapon Point Sensor .png [[]] – Returning from the first game, the Point Sensor temporary reveals the locations of enemies and marks them for all teammates to see for easy tracking.
  • File:S2 Weapon Splash Wall .png [[]] – Returning from the first game, the Splash Wall forms a barrier made of falling ink that prevents enemy movement and fire.
  • File:S2 Weapon Splat Bomb .png [[]] – Returning from the first game, the Splat Bomb is the standard Sub Weapon. It is a pyramidal container filled with ink that explodes after a short period of time.
  • File:S2 Weapon Sprinkler .png [[]] – Returning from the first game, the Sprinkler can be thrown onto a variety of surfaces and sprays out spurts of ink in a circular motion for a short amount of time.
  • File:S2 Weapon Squid Beakon .png [[]] – Returning from the first game, the Squid Beakon is a device that allows teammates to Super Jump directly to its location.
  • File:S2 Weapon Suction Bomb .png [[]] – Returning from the first game, the Suction Bomb sticks to walls and other surfaces, exploding shortly after.
  • File:S2 Weapon Toxic Mist .png [[]] – A new Sub Weapon that works similarly to the Disruptor.

Special

In Splatoon 2 all the Special Weapons are brand new and no Specials return from the first game.

  • File:S2 Weapon Baller .png [[]] – A protective sphere that allows the player to advance safely. It explodes in a blast of ink that is lethal to opponents when a timer expires or the user triggers it.
  • File:S2 Weapon Splat-Bomb Launcher .png Bomb Launcher – Similar to the Bomb Rush, the Bomb Launcher allows the player to quickly throw Bombs with no Ink restriction for a short time. However, the bombs used are independent from those equipped as a Sub Weapon (if any) and can be thrown further than usual.
  • File:S2 Weapon Ink Armor .png [[]] – The Ink Armor allows the user and teammates nearby to nullify the damage from a single attack.
  • File:S2 Weapon Inkjet .png [[]] – The Inkjet gives the ability for the Inkling to fly in the air and shoot powerful Blaster-like projectiles. Once the Special is over, the Inkling automatically Super Jumps back to the place where the player first activated it.
  • File:S2 Weapon Ink Storm .png [[]] – The Ink Storm, that once thrown, produces a large rain cloud raining Ink.
  • File:S2 Weapon Splashdown .png [[]] – The Splashdown makes the player jump in the air and strike the ground with heavy force causing an Ink explosion. Inklings can also do this in the middle of Super Jumping.
  • File:S2 Weapon Sting Ray .png [[]] – The Sting Ray allows the player to fire a continuous laser of Ink that can go through walls. The Inkling moves the laser very slowly, and can't walk whilst doing so.
  • File:S2 Weapon Tenta Missiles .png [[]] – The Tenta Missiles allow players to lock on to other Inklings, and for every Inkling locked on it will fire 4 missiles towards them.
  • File:S2 Weapon Bubble Blower .png [[]] – A bubble wand. The bubbles it creates will block large areas to opponents, and will explode in a deadly blast of ink if fired at.

Classes

Sub Classes are a way to distinguish different weapons of one weapon type. For example the Aerospray RG and the Dual Squelcher are both considered Shooter weapons but differ in many ways. A more explicit example would be the Splat Roller compared to the Inkbrush. Those are both considered Rollers, although the Inkbrush is far from being a Roller. These Sub Classes are not officially recognized in-game, but since they have noticeably different playstyles, they are worth unofficially recognizing. Thus, this section shows all types of Sub Classes existing in the game so far.
