Commence the Fest is a jingle originally performed by the Squid Sisters. It plays in place of Opening in Splatfest Battles.
Description
During Splatfests in Splatoon, all of the regular music was replaced with Squid Sisters songs. Therefore, instead of the standard Squid Squad match opening song Opening, a cover was by the Squid Sisters was used in its place, despite a lack of vocals. It is now a purely electronic production. It is featured in Splatune. It was also used at the beginning of live performances, and recordings of the intros from Shiokalive at Tokaigi 2016 and Shiokalive at Chokaigi 2016 can be found in Splatoon Live in Makuhari -Shiokalive-, and the recording from Shiokalive at Cho Party 2016 can be found in Splatoon 2 Live in Makuhari -Tentalive-.
Remixes and covers
Commence the Fest (Off the Hook)
Like what the Squid Sisters did in Splatoon, Off the Hook recorded a new version for use in Splatfests in Splatoon 2, with heavy electronic production. Once again, it contains no vocals from Off the Hook. It is featured in Splatune 2. It is also used at the beginning of live performances, and the recording of the intro from Haicalive at Tokaigi 2018 can be found in Octotune.
Commence the Fest (Deep Cut)
Deep Cut composed a version of Commence the Fest that is used during Splatfests in Splatoon 3, replacing the standard C-Side version. It has no vocals, like the previous Splatfest versions, and uses drums and many electronic instruments, mainly synths, like most of their songs.
Other versions
Here Comes Ultimate Doom
A minor key version of the Off the Hook version of Commence the Fest is heard at the beginning of Turf War in the Octo Expansion. This version is extended as well, as it continues to play when Marina is explaining the instructions to Agent 8. It is included in Octotune, where it is credited to Off the Hook.
This version of the jingle was also used in the Chaos vs. Order Splatfest, replacing the standard Off the Hook version. Despite being a separate file to the one used in the Octo Expansion, it sounds identical (albeit ending sooner when heard in-game).
Commence the Fest (Family vs. Friends)
Family vs. Friends was the first Splatfest to contain a special match intro, which is the standard Off the Hook version but with bells added to suit the festive theme.
Commence the Fest (Tricolor Turf War)
An alternate version is used during Tricolor Turf War matches during Splatfests in Splatoon 3, with sounding almost the same as the normal Splatfest version, but with some extra drums, that are much louder than any of the instruments.
Commence the Fest (Splatoween)
During the Splatoween Splatfests, a modified version was used, adding a rising and falling whistle sound and distant evil laughter. This version also had another variant for Tricolor Turf War.
Commence the Fest (FrostyFest)
During the FrostyFest Splatfests, a modified version was used, adding bells to suit the festive theme. This version also had another variant for Tricolor Turf War.
Commence the Fest (SpringFest)
During the SpringFest Splatfests, a third modification was used, using xylophones and fiddles to suit the springtime theme. This version also had another variant for Tricolor Turf War.
Commence the Fest (Summer Nights)
During the Summer Nights Splatfests, a fourth modification was used, adding steel drums and some trumpets at the end to match a more summery theme. This version also had another variant for Tricolor Turf War.
Commence the Fest (Grand Festival)
During the Past vs. Present vs. Future Splatfest, a fifth modification was used, adding two horn sounds to undertone the finality of the Splatfest. This version also had another variant for Tricolor Turf War.
