Jackpot was a competitive North American Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3 team. Making its competitive debut in the middle of Splatoon 2's cycle, it had risen to become one of the best competitive teams in the western Splatoon scene. In 2024, they became the world champions in the Nintendo-run Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024 tournament, though this title would later be stripped.
History
The core members of Jackpot met through mutual friends and instantly formed synergy upon playing together.[3] The team was initially formed out of a desire by Leafi and .q to play together more often. After brainstorming names for two hours, .q found the song Jackpot by TheFatRat in her playlist.[2]
Controversy and disbandment
In June 2024, various allegations surfaced online, with the community accusing multiple Jackpot members of making racist remarks.[4]
One month later, on 23 July 2024, Nintendo announced that Jackpot's Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024 tournament win had been vacated and that the team would not receive trophies associated with the event. In the statement, the reason given for this was that certain members of the team had broken Community Guidelines while playing Splatoon 3. It was also noted that the related in-game Splashtag banner featuring the team's player avatars was to be altered in a forthcoming update.[5] Shortly after this, Jackpot deleted their Twitter account.
The news article containing the Jackpot banner was then removed from the Nintendo Switch News app, and all videos and social media posts from Nintendo's official channels that featured Jackpot were also removed.[6][7] The team's banner got eventually changed to the initial placeholder banner in Version 9.0.0.
Ultimately, all of Jackpot's members left the team, some of them leaving the competitive scene altogether, leading to the team's subsequent disbandment.
