Daigasso! Band Brothers P is a Japan-exclusive Nintendo 3DS rhythm videogame developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, released on 14 November 2013.[1] It is the third release in the Daigasso! Band Brothers series, known in Europe as Jam with the Band.
During the game's live service period, a selection of Splatoon song arrangements were available for purchase. In 2018, a song arrangement contest themed around Octotune was held in commemoration of the album's release.
A lite version of the game called Daigasso! Band Brothers P Debut released in 2016. Among the free song arrangements exclusive to it was Chorus of Calamari County.[1]
The game was taken off the Nintendo eShop on 2 December 2019, with its online services discontinued on 1 May 2020.[1]
Premise
Daigasso! Band Brothers P is a rhythm game in which players must perform musical notes in time with the song currently playing. Each song has up to 10 related instruments tracks per song, not including vocal tracks; each instrument or vocal track must be played individually. The two input options are sliding on the touch screen or pressing certain button inputs, available depending on the track's difficulty. A full set of tracks per song could be played via the online multiplayer mode, which allowed for up to ten players to perform the same song together.
The game features a robust music arrangement mode in which players may compose their own song arrangements using MIDI-like virtual instruments. Vocals in the game are handled via Vocaloid 3 integration.[2] Players could then play their compositions in the performance mode. Compositions made in the game could be uploaded and downloaded via an online mode prior to the game's servers being taken offline in May 2020.
The game featured a premium currency called "tomatoes", obtainable via microtransactions conducted on the Nintendo 3DS' eShop. One tomato could be exchanged for one song in the in-game shop.[3] Limited amounts of tomatoes were distributed for free but would gradually "rot", becoming unusable over time.[4] An in-game shop interface allowed players to purchase more songs, which would be added to their catalog. Among the available songs were both wholly original tracks, licensed tracks and unique Nintendo game soundtrack arrangements, remixes and covers.
The player assumes the role of a musical artist stand-in character who is tricked into performing and producing for the guide character Barbara the Bat.

Octotune arrangement contest

In July 2018, a contest was held to coincide with the release of Octotune. From 18 July until 20 August, players were able to submit up to five of their arrangements of songs featured in the album, which would then be reviewed by the composers of the Splatoon games and put up for voting on the game's official YouTube channel. Likes that were given to the videos from 21 August at 3:00 UTC until 26 August at 14:59 UTC were counted as votes.[8] The winners were announced on 29 October 2018, with an in-game distribution of the winning songs beginning at 9:00 UTC on the same day.[9]
