Description
Squid Squad had disbanded as of Splatoon 2,[3] with Quinn joining Diss-Pair. Front Roe consists of the remaining Squid Squad members (Ichiya, Nami, and Murasaki), as well as the new member 004Clam, who is Quinn's replacement. When asked about the possibility of a reunion with Squid Squad by a TV interviewer, Quinn said "that's a good question," then left the room, never to return.[2]
Although Front Roe being Squid Squad's successor is an open secret, Front Roe have distanced themselves from their work as Squid Squad and never promote or perform their music in Splatsville despite being based in the Splatlands.[2] They hide their faces in an effort to give themselves a fresh start.[4]
In-universe, Front Roe debuted in the spring before the release of Splatune 3, working with the independent label AGARI.[2]
Members
Ichiya (001Nite)
- Main article: Ichiya
Ichiya, also known as 001Nite, is the former lead vocalist and guitarist for Squid Squad. Since Squid Squad is on hiatus, he has been worshipped and his number of followers to rise. He doesn't have a cell phone and even his bandmates have a hard time contacting him.[5]
Nami (002Wsbi)
- Main article: Nami
Nami, also known as 002Wsbi, is the former synth player for Squid Squad. She is the mastermind behind the disguised album art. Her latest hobby is collecting tea utensils. She's running a channel on a video site that teaches loosely but maniacally about jazz theory and synth music creation. It's "surprisely gentle, cute, and easy to understand" and rapidly gaining subscribers from it.[5]
Murasaki (003Soss)
- Main article: Murasaki
Murasaki, also known as 003Soss, is the former drummer for Squid Squad. Unlike his bandmates who is obscured, He has a open personality and makes frequent media appearances. He's currently active as a session musician and music producer. His drum beats and fills has been increased since his "Squid Squad" days.[5]
004Clam
004Clam is Quinn's replacement as the bass player in Front Roe, and is only ever credited under that name. He was invited by 003Soss. He's speculated to be the session musician known as "GETTA-GUY"[2] and has previously worked as a bass player for "CHOPSUEY" and "XOSauce."[5]
004Clam's signature resembles the digits "004." The overall trapezoid shape of the digits somewhat resembles shells.
Quotes
“ | Squid Research Lab here! We should probably log out of our "professional" account for this news, but YOLO! Ahem. New band alert!
Calling themselves Front Roe, this melodic pop-punk group has kids and squids (and Octolings) everywhere waving their tentacles along to the rhythm. |

“ | The melodious, punkish sound of rock outfit Front Roe has been swimming up the charts in Splatsville lately. Here's a sneak peek at one of their songs "Sea Me Now" that'll appear in #Splatoon3! 🔊 🎶 | ” |

“ | Despite turning down most media appearances and hiding their faces on jacket art, this band has managed to storm the charts based on their live-performance cred alone. The punk-tinged earworms they pump out have got all the kids hooked. | ” |
— Splatoon Base[8]
|
“ | After bassist Quinn left and Squid Squad went on hiatus, the remaining members formed a new act with another bassist taking his place. The reason they started over as a masked band might be because they want audiences to look past their popularity and judge them for what they're capable of now. | ” |

Trivia
- Big Man is a fan of Front Roe.[9]
- A largely white banner containing Front Roe's signatures can be seen outside the Grand Festival Grounds. Due to its color and the lack of any signatures from the team representatives, this could indicate neutrality in the Grand Festival.
Etymology
- For the other band members' etymologies, see Ichiya#Etymology, Nami#Etymology, and Murasaki#Etymology.
The band's name is a play on "front-row" (the closest row of seats to the stage of a theater or auditorium) and "roe", a group of fish eggs.
Additionally, the aliases of the former Squid Squad members are further nods to the sushi-based inspirations behind their real names:
- Ichiya's alias, 001Nite is derived from the same phrase as his name: "ichiya zushi" (一夜鮨, lit. "one-night sushi").
- Nami's alias, 002Wsbi, is derived from "wasabi."
- Murasaki's alias, 003Soss, is a play on "sauce," likely from soy sauce, given the Japanese name of his alias, 003Soy.
004Clam's alias continues the numbering scheme from the other band members.
