Edited gear

Gear editing is the act of using exploits to modify gear.

Splatoon

In Splatoon, exploits of the Wii U system firmware can be used to change primary and secondary ability slots on the player's gear. This type of cheating is used for the same reason as save scumming in the competitive Splatoon community but achieves results far faster. Gear Editing might result in a ban if the player gets caught by Nintendo. This ban can range from 1 week to permanent ("indefinite" in North America). Gear Editing is not detectable by Nintendo if it is done at the start screen, equipment screen, or while in Inkopolis Plaza.

Common methods used for gear editing include programs or mods like SplatHax and SplatHeX.

Splatoon 2

Hacked gear has been sighted in Splatoon 2.[1] The gear items have primary abilities that have not been released through the in-game shops or SplatNet 2. Hacked gear can circulate to players who are unaware of the illegality of the gear, as it can be ordered through Murch just like any other gear. Nintendo has not taken any disciplinary action against the hackers, and has not done anything to remedy the illegal gear existing in the inventory of non-hacker players.
