Squid Beakon's double shadow
Description Method Image
This visual glitch on Flounder Heights can be used to produce two shadows from one Squid Beakon. Go to the area near the right side edge and swim up the wall overlooking the ramp. Go near the edge, but not too close, and place a Squid Beakon. The Beakon produces a shadow on both the upper side of the wall that it is located on and on the wall on the right side.

Inkopolis News music in Inkopolis Plaza
Description Method Image
Using this glitch, the Inkopolis News music becomes part of the background music for Inkopolis Plaza. All the other plaza music can still be heard and mixes with the Inkopolis News music. The player must take the Splatoon disc out towards the end of Inkopolis News, then put it back in when the plaza screen shows up to hear the Inkopolis News music.

Ink exploits in Bluefin Depot
Description Method Image
A multitude of ink exploits found in Bluefin Depot using objects added in Ranked Battles, one of them having a use only in Rainmaker.
  • If a player goes near the back of one of the ramps near the middle and throws a Suction Bomb on the bottom of the ramp, they can then go to the front of the ramp and hide near the side if they manage to maneuver themselves well enough.
  • A player can throw two Suction Bombs near the area to the right towards the middle of the stage. Throw one on the left-side wall's side that is facing parallel to the jump way and one on the ground near the boxes. The wall acts as if it has been inked yet does not have any visible changes.
  • When playing in the Rainmaker mode, the player can go right next to the wall with arrows that lead to a grate. This is on the right side of the player's half of the stage. The player must be using a shooter or splatling. Face away from the pit, and if a splatling is being used, charge it, then jump down. Begin shooting while falling. Get the Rainmaker and go back to this spot. Swim down far enough to be out of range from everyone. It is impossible to be hit in this state without the other player getting splatted, although the Inkstrike, Killer Wail, a well-placed bomb, long-ranged blaster, or charger might be able to hit.[1]

Out of bounds in Inkopolis Plaza
Description Method Image
Using this glitch, the player can go out of bounds in Inkopolis Plaza and explore. If the player heads toward the southwest portion of the plaza, they may find two Inklings talking to each other at the end of the yellow tiles. If the player jumps on top of the Inkling towards the east in humanoid form and then immediately switches to squid form, they may be pushed out of bounds. This glitch exists in all versions of the game.[Citation needed] The glitch allows the player to see the back of the amiibo case, where the words are written in Inkling.

Silent Inkopolis Plaza
Description Method Image
When a player presses ZR in Inkopolis Plaza, their field of view zooms significantly and the background becomes quiet. Using this glitch, the player can make the plaza completely devoid of any sound. They can stack these effects by constantly using this glitch, making everything quieter than before. This even goes with Inklings' voices when they are interacted with in the plaza when the glitch is active. If the player goes up to Spyke and presses A to talk to him, immediately presses ZR to zoom in, and then cancels out of Spyke's conversation, the background noise of Inkopolis Plaza stays quiet as if they were zoomed in all the time. This glitch can be repeated many times to make the plaza completely silent. The player has done it right if the small reticle appears for a brief moment before Spyke begins his dialogue.

No gear Inkling
Description Method Image
Sometimes the player's Inkling or other Inklings in Inkopolis Plaza have no clothes on other than a black skintight suit. They also have no shoes on, revealing their feet, seeming to have no toes. This "gear" may be referred to as ?NoClothes in certain menus. It cannot be ordered from Spyke. This glitch occurs randomly and is likely caused due to scratches on the disc or an unstable Internet connection.

It is also possible to purposefully spawn this Inkling in the plaza by beginning a private match on the same frame a player leaves, then playing a match with the glitched player (named ????????? in the pre-battle menu, who does not spawn in the match itself) and checking Inkopolis Plaza. If the glitch was performed correctly and the glitched player is played with, the no gear Inkling spawns in Inkopolis Plaza.

Area 4 skip in Octo Valley
Description Method Image
This glitch allows the player to skip Area 4 in Octo Valley and proceed to Area 5.[2] The player needs to head towards the entrance to Area 5 in Octo Valley. From there, they need to ink the sponge to Area 5 and the electric gate that blocks access. Then, they need to do a squid jump with speed onto the left corner of the gate that is closest to the sponge. With a proper jump, the player temporarily lands on an invisible spot of the gate. The player must immediately jump into the gate to bounce away from it and then attempt several jumps towards the sponge while still in squid form. The player can continue from there to Area 5 as normal, except for the Area 5 cutscene not being shown. This can be done until the Octomaw is defeated and the player can Super Jump to any beaten missions in Area 5 without needing to go back to Area 4. This glitch exists in all versions of the game, but does prevent the player from obtaining the New Squiffer.

Jump storage & Area 4 Early
Description Method Image
Jump storage is a glitch that makes it so the player has jump data still on them making them be able to jump higher then normal when exiting the specific inkrail. Using this they should be able to enter area 4's loading zone and unlock a kettle to super jump to. To make this glitch work you need to be inside the Area 1 to Area 2 Inkrail's base for 1 frame, done correctly you should jump really high when exiting, this data should be stored as long as you are not in the inkrail for too long. Being in area 2 jumping off the ledge to get onto the inkrail as soon as possible you should be really high, going onto the rail at the node using Xfor extra height you should be in area 4's loading zone after throwing a splat bomb towards the block where the nearest kettle is, pausing the game with Plusshould allow the bomb to explode while still in the loading zone. After doing this twice the player should be able to super jump to the kettle they just unlocked. This glitch combined with Area 4 skip should allow you to only do 2 areas compared to all 5

Endless Ranked Battle
Description Method Image
In this glitch, a Ranked Battle does not end, where the timer can reach and remain at 0:00 without going into overtime and the objective, being the Splat Zones, Tower, and Rainmaker, behaves unusually. This can include the Tower reaching the goal without ending the match or not moving at all depending on the nature of this glitch. Similarly, the Rainmaker can be taken to the goal without ending, or act in a way that makes it impossible to be popped from its barrier and picked up. The exact cause is unknown, but a possible reason could be that the host, who is responsible for calculating the elements regarding the objective, such as the Tower's movement, disconnects in a way where the game fails to assign a new player with these tasks. See videos: Splat Zones, Tower Control, Tower Control #2, Rainmaker, Rainmaker #2.

End of match Kraken invisibility
Description Method Image
Using this minor glitch, a player can go invisible when the game is about to be over by having a weapon with the Kraken charged. To do this glitch, the Kraken is required. When the game is going to end in Turf War or Ranked Battle and the STOP BATTLING!(EU/OC)[a]/GAME!(NA)[b] message is due to appear, activate the Kraken by pressing Right Stick and the player's Inkling turns invisible.

Standing on the palm tree outside Arowana Mall
Description Method Image
The player can stand on the palm tree in the out of bounds area outside Arowana Mall. It is possible to jump out of bounds into the beach area outside the stage via the side alley. The player is instantly splatted if they fall completely out of bounds, but it is possible to stand on the palm tree just outside the map. There is no way to get back, though; from there, they must jump off and be splatted.[3]
Outside arowana glitch.png
Out of bounds glitch in Flounder Heights
Description Method Image
This glitch allows the player to be able to reach out of bounds area in Flounder Heights in Tower Control. In Flounder Heights, the Tower's path sticks to the wall and then goes above it. If the player gets between the Tower and the wall when the Tower is moving, the player can clip through the wall and get into the out of bounds area.[4]
N/A
Out of bounds glitch in Propeller-Lift Fortress
Description Method Image
This glitch allows the player to go inside the moving platforms which can be moved by hitting the propeller and standing on an edge of a wall. This glitch is easier to attempt with the Inkling Girl amiibo challenge. In Octo Valley, enter Propeller-Lift Fortress and head to Checkpoint 2. Stay at the first area of that checkpoint and take out the three Octobombers so they are not in the way. There are three small walls in that area and the platform can stretch to a long distance for some Power Eggs to collect. Instead of stretching the platform that far, make sure Agent 3 is standing in a line where the platform and one of the two small walls where the platform will be near meet, and throw a Burst Bomb at the propeller. If Agent 3 is standing in the correct spot, they successfully clip inside the platform. However, there is an out of bounds limitation when inside the platform.

Judd Vibe reward oversight
Description Method Image Patched on
This glitch allowed the player to pick up ordered gear, add a gear ability slot, or re-roll gear abilities for free.[Citation needed] The player needs to talk to Spyke and do one of the following: pay for an order, add a gear ability slot, or re-roll the abilities on a piece of gear. After paying him, the player should go to Judd and talk to him. Judd gives the player cash based on vibe points earned, but instead of adding them to the player's current balance, Judd adds it to the balance they had before paying Spyke. Because Judd only gives out bonuses every stage rotation, this glitch can only be performed once every rotation.

The Mighty Octostomp! ink color error
Description Method Image Patched on
This glitch allowed the player to change ink colors on The Mighty Octostomp! in Octo Valley. Go to Options. Turn 'Color Lock' on and head straight to Octo Valley. Proceed to The Mighty Octostomp! If the player looks at the Wii U GamePad, the ink is yellow, but on the screen, the ink starts yellow but instead shoots out green. If the player is to Super Jump, they turn yellow mid-jump.

Arowana Mall ledge jump
Description Method Image Patched on
This glitch allowed the player to take a shortcut up into a team's base in the side alleys of Arowana Mall by climbing through an unclimbable ledge. The unclimbable ledge in the wall was glitched in the curve between the two sides of the wall. If the glitch was successfully performed, then the player could ledge jump to the other side and get into the team's base. This glitch was patched in Version 2.1.0, reintroduced in Version 2.4.0, and patched again in Version 2.5.0.

Boneless Inklings
Description Method Image Patched on
This glitch allowed the player to make their Inkling boneless with roller-type weapons on Piranha Pit in Tower Control.[5] On Piranha Pit, the Tower platform in Tower Control is nestled between two conveyor belts in the middle of the stage. With a bit of practice and timing, players can use their roller-type weapon to manipulate the appearance of their Inkling by rolling in the conveyor belt and touching the walls of the Tower. After shaping the boneless Inkling, they can move freely in the stage by rolling the weapon.

Super Jump while carrying the Rainmaker
Description Method Image Patched on
This glitch allowed the player to Super Jump to a teammate or Squid Beakon while carrying the Rainmaker. Players with high latency in the game were able to grab the Rainmaker and Super Jump with it before the game registered they grabbed it. They had to Super Jump right after picking it up.[6]

Jump higher by touching an opponent's Splash Wall
Description Method Image Patched on
This glitch allowed the player to jump higher than usual by touching an opponent's Splash Wall. If the player could touch an opponent's Splash Wall from above, the player was able to jump higher than usual and get to unreachable areas. This was very effective with the combination of the Bubbler and Inkzooka and were activated due to the player being invulnerable for a short time and the knockback effect of the special weapons.

Super Jump invincibility
Description Method Image Patched on
This glitch allowed the player to become invisible and invincible. Before Version 2.9.0, a player would fall off the stage when performing a Super Jump while falling. Latter to that version, if the glitch was successfully performed, then the player would Super Jump safely when falling off the stage and the player icon on the Wii U GamePad would drift off the screen. This would make the player invisible and invincible.[7][8]

Splatoon 2

Working

???????? Inkling
Description Method Image
This glitch causes a female Inkling named "????????" to appear on the results screen and in Inkopolis Square. Said Inkling has the "Haircut" hairstyle, is level 1 and wears the White Headband, Basic Tee, and Cream Basics. They do not appear on SplatNet 2, and when viewing match data, where the ???????? Inkling would be, the spot is blank. This is performed in almost the same way as the "No gear Inkling" glitch from Splatoon, the only difference being the fact that it can be done in any multiplayer battle mode rather than exclusively in Private Battles. If performed correctly, other players can see the player performing the glitch leave the lobby before a battle starts and can see the ???????? Inkling in the results and Inkopolis Square. However, it is possible for the game to treat the player slot as empty rather than this glitch occurring.

???????? Inkling in Inkopolis Square.jpg
Octo Shot Skip
Description Method Image
This allows the player to finish Villi Phase without having the Octo Shot. Once reaching Belly Phase, the player is equipped with the Octo Shot anyway. First, the player needs to obtain the Splat Bombs and Super Jump to the main area. Instead of heading over to the Ink Switch, head over to the wall that usually needs the Octo Shot to pass. Create a small puddle of ink on the wall, and continuously mash B while swimming up the wall to eventually reach the top. The player then needs to throw Splat Bombs continuously until the Splat-Switch is activated. The player can now complete the phase relatively normally and continue to the Belly Phase.

Small Booyah Bomb in the test range
Description Method Image
This creates a small Booyah Bomb in the Shooting Range. First, the player needs to charge their Booyah Bomb. Activate the Booyah Bomb, and right after the Booyah Bomb lands, reset the Shooting Range, and a small Booyah Bomb appears but does not ink any surface. To create a larger Booyah Bomb, wait for a little while the Booyah Bomb "explodes" and then reset.
S2 Small Booyah Bomb Glitch.jpg
Extremely high jumping at Towering Heights
Description Method Image
This enables the player to jump so high, that if they reach enough height, they get splatted. First, the player needs to equip either the Hero Dualies, Hero Roller, Herobrush, or Hero Brella and go to Towering Heights. After Checkpoint 3, look for a Bumper with a dash track near it on a wall. Get on the dash track, and land on the Bumper and immediately go on the dash track again until the character flies high enough to get splatted. This does not work with any other hero weapons because the dash track does not appear.

Ability to climb a wall in Camp Triggerfish even when it appears uninked or covered in enemy ink
Description Method Image
This enables the player, as well as any teammate, to climb a wall even if it appears uninked or covered in enemy ink. This glitch can work in any mode, as long as it is performed in Camp Triggerfish. Equip a weapon with Burst Bombs or Suction Bombs, but preferably Burst Bombs. When the match starts, take the Inkrail near the floodgate, and upon reaching the other side, head over to the end of the small alleyway. Hold out the bomb, but only throw it once the icon for the bomb appears to be on the edge (not the floor) of the platform, near the water. Repeat as many times as necessary until it is possible to climb the wall that is not parallel to the ledge the bomb was placed on. If it did not work, then try placing the bomb closer to the corner.

Clipping into a wall in Suction-Cup Lookout
Description Method Image
This glitch allows the player to clip into a wall in Suction-Cup Lookout by shooting a sponge. However, if the player moves inside the wall, they fall through the ground. The player has the use the Hero Charger to do this glitch. There is a sponge near the launchpad to Beaker's Depot and a wall that has a dash track on top of it. The player has to stand at the very edge of the floor and right next to the wall and then shoot a charged shot at the sponge. The player should be able to clip into the wall.

Description Method Image Patched on
This glitch is used on Marooner's Bay where the player becomes stranded by water. After completing a low tide wave, when the tide is about to rise, quickly get to the egg basket fold before the tide has nearly finished rising. If successful, the egg basket fold should not disappear, leaving the player stranded.[Citation needed] A high tide ruins the glitch, so when the tide rises, the tide level has to be normal in the next wave.

Out of sight, out of existence: the disappearing Octocopters
Description Method Image/Video Patched On
A glitch that makes a group of Octocopters in 0104 Doors, Doors, Doors! And More! (Doors) temporarily disappear and reappear. In the room with the Octocopter in a vault, lure the Octocopters outside. Splatting the Octocommander makes the glitch easier. Lure the Octocopters up onto the roof, and as the checkpoint is approached, the Octocopters will vanish. Moving back towards them makes them reappear but they will not attack. Hiding in ink or throwing Smallfry at the ground so they notice it, however, returns them to normal. If they were about to fire before vanishing, bringing them back will make them finish the shooting animation, but no projectile will come out. Afterwards, they won't go back to their idle animation, instead opting to just stare lifelessly at the player without swinging around like they usually do. Unknown

Description Method Image/Video Patched On
A visual glitch where the names appearing over players' heads after boarding a Splatfest Float for winning a 100x Battle or 333x Battle don't match the selected team's colors. The player has to win a 100x Battle or 333x Battle during a Splatfest and take a photo on a Splatfest Float with the players' names displayed. In some cases, the players' names will instead appear in another team's color. The color appears to be consistent across photos and does not change upon exiting and re-entering the Splatfest Float. S3 Splatfest 100x Float Incorrect Name Color Glitch.jpg 6.0.0
Triple Splashdown Desynchronization
Description Method Image/Video Patched On
This glitch causes a player to desynchronize with the other players, becoming invisible and intangible to most effects. If a player uses a Triple Splashdown right on the edge of a platform, it is possible for the game state to desynchronize: the user lands on the platform normally, while to other players they appear to have fallen off the platform and into the void. This makes the user invisible to other players and intangible to effects such as enemy bullets, while still being able to damage other players. However, the user can still be hurt by sub weapons, such as by a Curling Bomb. When the user's perspective is viewed by another player, such as after being splatted or in a battle replay, they appear to be endlessly falling beneath the stage.

As the release of version 6.0.1 did not invalidate old battle replays, it is still possible to see some of the effects of the glitch in that version by viewing a battle replay of it. If the glitch is viewed as a battle replay in version 6.0.1, the user appears to still fall through the platform for a small period of time before landing back up onto it, no longer being invisible.
