Have you seen any Inklings with shiny weapons when spawning at the beginning of a Ranked Battle? We discovered this occurs when the player has recently been winning a lot of Ranked Battles with that weapon in the current rank. Put another way, this Inkling is currently on fire! It will be worth checking out how these players battle, whether on your squad or not.

Tonight at 7 PM PT, just prior to the Splatfest kick off, the Sploosh-o-matic will become available at Ammo Knights. Although its range is pretty short, its rapid-fire makes it an excellent choice for close-combat situations. Go deep into opponents' territory quickly and open up holes in their defenses. This set comes with a Curling Bomb sub and Splashdown special.

Wondering how your condiment of choice fared in other regions? Our intel shows that this was a tightly-contested battle around the world.

While Team wins narrowly tipped Ketchup over the line in Japan, Mayo managed to hold onto a 2-1 win as the more popular choice. In Europe, Ketchup held onto the popular vote but just couldn't squeeze through in Solo or Team wins.

Congrats Team Mayo on a global victory!

Tonight at 7 PM PT, a new weapon type comes to Ammo Knights. Introducing the Splat Brella! It features a completely different combat style than any other weapon type. Inklings can use it to scatter ink before them by firing. However, by holding the ZR button, the umbrella will open up and shield them from enemy attacks. But if that wasn't enough, holding ZR even longer will launch the umbrella shield, blocking attacks as it zooms ahead. Completing this set is the Sprinkler sub weapon and the Ink Storm rain on opponents' parade.

Tonight, a classic weapon will become available at Ammo Knights. Re-introducing the Classic Squiffer! This charger is a bit short on range, but can charge up quickly, allowing you to jump into the fray. You can use the Point Sensor sub weapon to sniff out hidden opponents, allowing you and your allies to overrun and outnumber marked enemies. It's also accompanied with Ink Armor as a special. As Sheldon put it, this set's great for anyone confident with a charger in close quarters.

We learned that on Friday evening, a new stage will be added to the mix. The Manta Maria is a large sailboat moored at a harbor near Inkopolis, and it will soon be the site of many fierce ink battles. The towering masts and nets in the center of the stage will likely be a key area of conflict.

We've noticed that Inklings often choose to do battle on or near bodies of water, even though their bodies are incompatible with water. It could be that they revel in the danger of it, but more research is needed on this subject.

Breaking news! An update to the Splatoon 2 game will be released this evening: Version 1.2.0. For details, please visit this page.

One of the key updates is that Grizzco Industries has apparently established a new location for its Salmon Run operation. This location is known as Lost Outpost. It appears to be an abandoned settlement near a coastal region.

You can use the walls of the main structure to evade Salmonid attacks, but the walls will also block your line of sight. You'll need to be even more vigilant in watching your teammates' backs.

This stage will be available via The Shoal for local multiplayer later this evening, as well as rotated into upcoming online work-shifts.

League Battle Basics

Hey y'all. Corey here, and I wanted to chat a little about one of my favorite Splatoon 2 features: League Battle.

To open up League Battle, you just need to rank up to B- in any of the three Ranked Battle modes.

What IS League Battle? Read on to find out!

We first introduced this feature in a Nintendo Direct (which you can watch HERE), but a simple way to describe League Battles is that they are highly competitive series of battles that you play with friends in two-hour chunks. It's possible to play in League Battle for less than two hours, but if you play the full session, you'll have the potential to achieve a higher score.

After two hours, the stages change, signaling the start of a new League Battle session. Your wins and losses during a session get reflected in a single statistic called League Power. And the teams with the highest League Power at the end of a session earn top honors.

While the mode uses Ranked Battle rules (Tower Control, Splat Zones, and Rainmaker), your actual rank won't change. So it's a great opportunity to test out new strategies without risking a decrease in your personal rank. It's also a chance to go up against some of the most skilled squid squads from around the world and learn from the best! Sure, you may suffer a few terribly lopsided defeats against elite teams every now and then (for this reason; we recommend keeping your windows closed so your neighbors aren't alarmed about the yelling coming from your living room). But you'll be surprised how much you can improve your individual and team skills by playing League Battles with a group of friends.

League Power

This important stat expresses your team's performance. When you first start out a League Battle session, you won't have any League Power. After seven battles, you'll get assigned an initial League Power, and from the eighth battle onward, you'll see it increase and decrease based on wins and losses. As you might expect, defeating teams with a high League Power is a quick way to increase your own League Power. And the only thing that matters at the end of the session is your maximum League Power, so if you go on a losing streak and nosedive towards the end of the session, it's totally cool.

The first seven games in a League Battle session determine your initial League Power.

Two or Four

You can join League Battles as a pair or as a team of four. Joining as a four-squid team gives you more options to communicate among all of your teammates, especially when combined with the voice chat feature of the Nintendo Switch Online app. On the flip side, when joining as a pair, you get matched with a different pair every match to create various four-squid teams and battle against other teams comprised of pairs.

Within the League Battle menu, you can view past records or join a new session as part of a four-squid team or a pair.

Results and Position

About ten minutes after a session ends, you're able to see how your team stacked up when compared to other teams in the session. Players with the highest League Power will earn gold medals, and other top teams will earn silver and bronze medals. These medals won't translate into in-game bonuses, but you'll still earn experience and in-game cash from battles, not to mention potential bragging rights.

You can see your results by going to Past Records within the League Battle menu. In this session we scored a bronze medal, just on the cusp of silver!

In addition to being able to see your League Battle result in-game, you can also find additional detailed stats using the SplatNet 2 feature of the Nintendo Switch Online app. Here you can see the total number of medals you've earned, as well as the top 100 teams from each session. You can even see the weapon compositions used by each team, which might come in handy when forming future strategies.

If you tap the globe icon in the upper right, you can sort your performance by region. In the above session, our squad didn't break the global top 100, but we did rank 34th among North America and AU/NZ! Room for improvement!

As a reminder, all online services and features for Nintendo Switch, including online gameplay, are free until the paid Nintendo Switch Online Service launches in 2018, so now's a great time to jump into the action. For more info about League Battles and the voice chat feature of the Nintendo Switch Online app, including connection requirements and other details, swing over to

Whether you look at League Battles as miniature competitions or as a way to practice with friends in Ranked Battles without dropping rank, it's a great way to continue improving your skills. Maybe we'll cross paths in a League Battle session soon!

Tonight at 7PM PST, the Sloshing Machine returns to Ammo Knights! This appliance is basically your normal everyday washing machine...except it fires twisting volleys of beautiful, messy ink! Use the Autobomb sub to track down campers and splat faraway foes with the Sting Ray special! Per Sheldon, "This set is perfect for splatting like a wild child and drowning the battlefield in a whirlwind of ink!"

[Notice] The SplatNet service for the Splatoon game on the Wii U system will be permanently closed on September 30th, 2017. Online multiplayer battles will still be available, as this update only affects the SplatNet service. We sincerely thank all players for using this companion site for the original Splatoon game.

It's a superpowered Splatfest this week in Splatoon 2! Which team will reign supreme? Let's take a look.

Team Flight gets to save a bunch of money on plane tickets and you never have to sit in traffic again! Invisibility has its perks too though. You'd make a pretty great spy, being able to listen in on secret conversations, and skipping lines would be a breeze!

Of course, there's only one way to settle this argument, and that's by inking up your opponents on the splattlefield this weekend! Splatfest kicks off Friday 9/1 at 9PM PT and ends Saturday 9/2 at 9PM PT.

May the best superpower team win!
