Tonight, we expect bubbles to cover battlefields across Inkopolis, as the Forge Splattershot Pro launches just prior to the Splatfest kickoff. A custom Splattershot Pro weapon set put together by the gear brand Forge, this main weapon functions identically to the Splattershot Pro, but can keep opponents at arm's length with Suction Bombs.

But we know players really are coming for the exquisite Bubble Blower special. It may not be the easiest set to use, but if you master it, you'll be unstoppable! And you'll also be a master bubble blower.

[PSA] Tonight, September 7th, a software update (Ver. 1.3.0) will be released. Prior to this update, server maintenance will take place from 5:50 PM - 7:30 PM Pacific Time.

For details on this update, please visit this page.

The biggest changes in Ver. 1.3.0 are adjustments to some special weapons as well as some main weapons. In addition to these, adjustments to improve performance of some sub weapons have also been made.

Along with this update, additional adjustments have been made to refine matchmaking criteria in Ranked Battles so players with much closer Power Rating will get matched up even in the same rank. How much ranks rise or fall will be adjusted based on this criteria. The tendency for rank above S+ will not change with this update.

The next update is scheduled in mid-October and will target performance improvement of some main weapons.

Tonight, be on the lookout for an additional weapon at Ammo Knights! Sources inform us that the Custom Splattershot Jr. will be added to Sheldon's inventory. This weapon offers the same functions as the Splattershot Jr. but comes with different supporting weapons. Thanks to its Autobomb sub and Ink Storm special, it has an advantage in assisting teammates from aside or maintaining turf. We will research this further.

We received an urgent notification from Grizzco Industries:

"Due to...uh....tentacle difficulties, the weapons for the Salmon Run shift that starts Friday, September 15th at 5PM PT will be unknown until you clock in. And also, one of my personal belongings was accidentally mixed in to the weapon pool. If you happen to come across it, don't even think about stealing it or go blabbing to the media about it. Failure to comply is grounds for immediate termination."

Do you have the sudden urge to fight under a large glass dome? Although this is a very specific (and peculiar) urge, Friday's stage update can help.

The popular Kelp Dome stage from the original Splatoon game is making a comeback. Our researchers have discovered some fresh twists from the first game, such as extra grates to slip through and a bit of added turf on each side. Be careful on the catwalks – there's no place to hide up there! The Kelp Dome stage will be available to play Friday evening.

We also have received some details on an upcoming new stage called Snapper Canal. In this stage, a river is running right down the middle!

The key to victory may be figuring out how to break into the central area and push through to the other team's base.

It appears a new Brella weapon, called the Tenta Brella, will also be available soon.

It's sort of like a regular umbrella, but it kinda looks like a big camping tent, capable of guarding over a large area. We will continue to research this weapon, and marshmallows and hot dogs may be involved.

Tonight, the Heavy Splatling Deco will be added to Ammo Knights! The Heavy Splatling Deco has the same stats as the Heavy Splatling, but comes with a snazzy new look. The main difference has to do with its Sub and Special weapons: this set comes with the protective Splash Wall and the fearsome Bubble Blower. Sheldon recommends this set to players who want to weave together solid strategy with fabulous style!

There is much science happening with today's new weapon. According to Sheldon, the Rapid Blaster Pro uses a chamber system that delays oxidization to the last possible instance. So what does this mean exactly? An incredible range, that's what!

This range is made even more dangerous with the Toxic Mist Sub weapon and Ink Storm Special (which is, of course, excellent for providing cover for your teammates). Overall, it's a kit for the more technically minded Inklings out there.

Hopefully these findings will help your own Inkling research later tonight when the weapon becomes available.

For those who seek safety during a downpour, it may be time to pitch a Tenta Brella! According to our research, the new Tenta Brella weapon will be available tonight! For even more details, check out this report from a source calling itself the Nintendo Treehouse Log. Does this source have academic credibility?

Big Bad Brella

The below may look like a camping tent/umbrella hybrid, but it's actually a rad new weapon coming to Splatoon 2 that was announced in last week's Nintendo Direct.

Part tent, part umbrella, and all awesome.

In case you haven't been battling in Turf War* or Ranked matches recently, the Brella class of weapons officially joined the multiplayer-weapon arsenal last month with the introduction of the Splat Brella (a.k.a. my current main – not since the bucket has an everyday item made for such a surprisingly fun weapon to play with). While the Splat Brella is the only available Brella right now, that will change soon with the massive Tenta Brella.

If all this Brella talk is new to you, below is a recap on some characteristics unique to the class:

  1. Spread like a shotgun: Pressing ZR scatters ink like a shotgun, creating solid turf coverage. A couple strong hits can also KO opponents.
  2. Shield yourself: Holding ZR allows you to use the weapon as a shield, soaking up attacks from enemies or creating a diversion.
  3. Launch it: The most surprising feature—holding ZR even longer will launch the umbrella shield, blocking attacks as it zooms ahead and creates an ink path.

A good defense can open up for a strong offense.

The first night the Splat Brella became available, battlefields were filled with umbrellas, as previously the weapon had only been available in single-player mode. Many players were anxious to put their skills to the test, resulting in numerous all-Brella squads temporarily. I'm not sure what was more hilarious, the results screen or having non-stop rain ink the battlefields due to its Ink Storm special.

Boy band, fashion show, or fierce competitors?

Comedy aside, this weapon class's strength lies in its versatility. In some situations, it allows you to get up close as an aggressor. Other times, it's best to utilize the shield to soak up damage so a nearby teammate can take out the enemy. And launching the shield can serve multiple purposes – swim behind it while protected, or send it out to confuse your enemy to your tactics. Mixing up your strategy can really annoy your foes, making it difficult for them to splat you (and making them easy targets for your teammates).

Side-by-side comparison of Tenta Brella & Splat Brella.

The Splat Brella is a perfect weapon to get accustomed to the class, with its mid-range and relatively fast fire-rate. The Sprinkler sub and Ink Storm offer great support options that can create diversions.

Meanwhile, a breakdown of the Tenta Brella:

  • Stronger shot power; can splat opponents with just one shot at point-blank range
  • Shield is wider and has more resistance (hello, Tower Control!)
  • Shield launch moves slower, but is wider; effective for moving with teammates or blocking narrow paths
  • Tradeoff of slower firing rate, more ink consumption, and overall heavier behaviors
  • Equipped with the Squid Beakon sub, great for supporting teammate mobility, and the Bubble Blower special, letting you cause some mayhem yourself

Concept art of Tenta Brella.

Certainly, each Brella has its advantages in different situations. If you're a team-minded player and open to learning a non-conventional weapon, I highly recommend giving the Brella class a try!
