Inkipedia talk:Logo Contest 2022/Round 3

From Inkipedia, the Splatoon wiki

In a nutshell, Round 3 is this: Your words are your vote. Leave comments under each logo proposal about what you like or dislike, and what makes each logo a good fit or bad fit for Inkipedia. Through discussion and argument, determine the best logo. For more information, read the full guidelines.

The Inkipedia logo from 2015 is part of Round 3 and may be discussed in the same manner as the others. Continuing to use the logo is a valid outcome of Round 3.

Logo 2015 discussion

  • Oppose Have to be honest, after seeing everyone's entries over the past week or so, I think I'm more than comfortable to let this one go. It has seen its hayday. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 15:53, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose. For all the reasons laid out that led to us having this vote, I am more than happy to replace the logo with one of the new submissions. It was nice, but originality is the spice of life! GloverMist (talk) 21:59, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support I got to say that back when I first heard about this contest, I didn't really get why the current logo had to be substituted. If it was up to me, we would either keep it or use a logo similar to it. Cosmo95 (talk) 22:04, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Even though I am one of the competitors of this contest, I have to say I don't mind the og logo all too much. It is definetly incredibly dated by both logo design standards, and specially when it comes to the franchise itself. Besides using an old squid design, it features the color schemes and design style of the first game, but I still think it has become a part of the site's identity. Though, I think the new proposals can bring a much more interesting appearance to the wiki as a whole, so I think it's good to let it go ninckmane (talk) 22:14, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Oppose Although the current logo isn't that bad, I can definitely see that the other logo proposals are a much better improvement than this. OrderSquid38 (talk) 23:43, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose I loved this logo but yes, it has had it's time and a new fresher logo should be put up! I'd rather have a new logo because why else would this vote matter!!--Oddlildude (talk) 01:58, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Even though it looks nice, I think it is a little bland and it is time for an original logo and wordmark. Lazyfish (talk) 11:11, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose As much as I enjoyed the Octo expansion, retro stuff isn't that cool anymore. We need a new community representative. This one was on for a good 7 years, and there is no reason to keep it. It's bland, uncool, and has no variations in color scheme. (Sorry to whoever made this)Octohachi (talk) 13:53, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose This logo is okay, but we can do better. I don't dislike it per se, but all that green in the logo combined with all the green we already have in the site's palate gets old pretty fast. Avery_TSP (conversing) 16:36, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose I think this logo is cute, but it's been here for 7 years now and it's time for it to retire. Tons-of-ducks (talk) 17:07, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose This logo is bland, and outdated. We need something that represents Splatoon 3! SplatGuy (talk) 01:26, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Hey, I feel like this review was posted on the wrong proposal, having the same review written on proposal 8. Is this intentional? I feel like this review doesn't fit with the logo on top ninckmane (talk) 04:42, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Oh my gosh, I am so sorry! I put that in the wrong spot. I am new to this whole wiki edit thing. I'm sorry! User:Clarinet.octo|Clarinet.octo (talk) 23:12, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support I was going to say that I was surprisingly alone in my opinion here, but the edit above is also in support so I guess not! Still, I'm surprised how many people dislike this logo. Personally I think it fits the site quite well, and the problem some have with it not representing Splatoon 3 could be easily changed with a colour pallete swap. Eh, I'm kind of an 'Ain't broke, don't fix it!' guy I guess. It'd be nice to have a change, sure! But if none of the new logos win I don't think I'll be losing sleep, because this one is still iconic. 🐙owen⛥puppy⛥21🐙 (talk) 01:52, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak support. It is quite hard to let the old logo go as it's been the identity of the wiki for so long. Letting it go would require time for the new logo to catch up and be recognizable across the media, which is kind of a start-over in marketing. My support is mitigated by Heddy's reasons to swap logos and use originality as our new identification symbol. Shahar (talk) 13:17, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support It's a cool logo but it has been around for a while. I wish that the color variants were used more, which could of rekindled some interest in this design. The design itself is really cool, the shadowy ink in the background adds some depth but keeps simplicity but like I said, the color gets boring after a while. - Woomy? (talk) signature signature 14:41, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral At first I wasn't convinced to replace the logo, thinking "why fix something if it's not broken?", but since there are good candidates (only 2 for me) that are convincing enough, I would have no problem letting go of the old one. It helps that (most) users take it seriously and give good explanations and critics with only few exceptions giving me the feeling that they don't now the difference between a well made/looking and an actually fitting logo. Of course taste differs and we won't all agree but I am certain that we will get used to the new one, whichever it will be. Perfectionist (talk) 23:34, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak support I don't mind this logo and it fits well with the rest of the wiki's style, but it's obviously not perfect otherwise this contest wouldn't exist. Hewer (talk · contributions) 14:51, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Oppose. This is a good design that holds up to time, but after looking at the wonderful other designs and the technical reasons for this contest (the image source and mediawiki requirements) I cannot argue in favor of it. I also don't love the wordmark — it's generic and hard to read against light backgrounds. Centritide. 22:59, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral. If we simply vectorized this logo, I think it could serve Inkipedia far into the future. It has become recognizable, but I think a new logo has the potential to become even more recognizable. While using assets from games may seem common for wiki logos, I think Inkipedia can do better than that by replacing this logo with an original logo free of borrowed assets. In summary, I wouldn't mind if this logo continued to be used indefinitely, but I believe that the talented artists who decided to participate in this contest have come up with something better. Even the logos that didn't get to Round 3 were fantastic! Heddy (talk) 03:20, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral I would be fine if we used this logo in the future, but I also feel like we need something fresh. WolfTamer OC Icon Callie Outpost.png 04:27, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose The logo is a good logo, but I think it's of a time. It doesn't really represent what the series has become anymore, now that we're moving on to Splatoon 3. It feels way too simple, and I think we're ready for a new look. HalfSanitized (User talk) 12:16 29 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Weak oppose As much as this logo is really cool and I'm sad to see it go, we really are in need of a new logo. The font is nice, but it doesn't really fit with a wiki theme. It works, but is kind of old at this point. ArivakiVA (talk) 10:44, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak oppose The current logo is alright, and it certainly fits with the theme. However, it's most certainly dated. It works but I don't think it holds up anymore. Vcuum (talk) 19:56, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak support The current logo is OK enough for an Inkipedia logo in my opinion, but I'd like to see if a new logo can compete to this one. — Exaskliri (they/them) (talk | contribs) 09:20, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose I think we need a new logo. This one isn't that bad, but it's a little bland in my opinion. -- Calimarie12 (talkcontributions) 4:20, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose Pretty much what everyone else is saying, it's fine but bland and old. It'll be hard to see it go but I think it will be good to chnage it. WoomyGirl85 (talk) 14:49, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support. The original logo is iconic and has a lot of history, and I don't get the worry about using Nintendo assets when this is a wiki about Nintendo assets in the first place, but it's definitely showing its age and fits the first two games more than it does the upcoming Splatoon 3, or possibly any future games beyond that. Changing the logo might be necessary to accommodate those future games. Untitled-1 (talk) 21:58, 12 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak oppose Our logo has been recognisable and very easy to change and riff from, for example see Inkipedia ES. But it's been fun and it's time we let go of it. Slate Talk Contribs 16:24, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Proposal 7 discussion

  • Weak Support. I like the overall design, but the wordmark looks strange being cut off. I understand if it couldn't fit the whole thing. OrderSquid38 (talk) 13:43, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strongest support: I gotta say, your design, of all designs, is the most aesthetically appealing one, though the wordmark might need some tweaks. Minimalism is usually something that the creative fans of the fandom frown upon. But you have proven them that experimenting with minimalism is not a taboo, and shown us how it can truly be done the right way. And while I think that other designs look decent and "fresh" enough, with actual efforts put into them, I still want to give your work a chance. I'll give you the largest support because you deserve it. Walk tall, our brave little squiddy. • Strongest support: This has been my favorite out of all the designs so far; it's modern, clean, and I like the fact that it's able to be changed color-wise. I think it really looks good! HalfSanitized (talk) 14:10, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support Even though this logo has been overshadowed with some of the logo in this list, I think this logo does balance the minimalism and uniqueness well. I do wish the watermark without the logo was in one word however. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 15:53, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose I think that this logo is oversimplified and the cut-off wordmark makes it a little weird. I've seen better, but congrats on making it this far. Goldeη1talkInkipedia Logo Contest 2022 - DedSplat1369 - Icon Proposal 7.png 21:10, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak support. I'm usually against minimalism, and still think that more detailed designs are more aesthetically pleasing, but this works surprisingly well! I like how the colours can be changed easily and the squid/octo representation is nice, but there's something about the eyes I don't quite like. Plus, as others have said, the split wordmark strikes me as odd and hard to read. But overall, still nice and smooth. GloverMist (talk) 21:59, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Quick note Hey! I'm the creator of the logo. As for the cut off logo, as some of you have mentioned, I did it with the intention of making it more even-sized with the icon, so it doesn't become as much of a pain to read on smaller displays and all of that, and also to give some kind of movement to the wordmark. Of course, it could be changed, and originally it was all in one line (if you check the original design on Round 1), so we'll see! ninckmane (talk) 22:31, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strongest Support I loved this logo. As a big fan of the octos, I like how this logo design gives them their rightful place next to the squids. The interlocking tentacles makes it seem like they belong together, and the color changes make it perfect for all 3 games. Overall awesome job ninckmane. Octohachi (talk) 14:01, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong oppose I don't really like this logo. The colors are just... off, the shape of the octo head is weird, and I don't think the style captures the feel of the Splatoon series in the right way. The eyes also aren't very appealing and don't stand out enough. The wordmark isn't my favorite either; the split is confusing (the site is Inkipedia not Inki Pedia), the font really takes away from the readability for me, and the little ink drips are cute but distracting. It would be a decent logo for perhaps a modern-style, super streamlined competitive site, but I don't feel that it fits Inkipedia in the ways I want with the new logo. Avery_TSP (conversing) 16:45, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong support Upon coming back after having given it some thought, I definitely prefer this logo over the other strong contender. I still think the colors aren't exactly perfect, but they're very close, and they definitely make me think of Splatoon. I also like the ink swirls, reminds me of the respawn points in Splat2. And I think the eyes provide a nice contrast with the cephalopods. My favorite variation of the logo would have to be the Splatoon 2 themed one with the combined wordmark. Overall still not my absolute favorite, but it's definitely grown on me. Avery_TSP (conversing) 03:14, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support It's really good! I like how it can change color to match with the different installment's palettes. A lot of people don't like the cut-off wordmark, but I think it's nice. Tons-of-ducks (talk) 17:14, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose The cutoff logo is fine but first off this logo doesn't give off the SPLATATATATATA SPLATOON!! vibes as the others!! It is great that you did the game colors and had an squid and octo but still it doesn't give the vibes!! Sorry but the shapes of the squid and octo heads are kinda off!! (That's just my opinion though!) Please don't read this as me being harsh!! If you read it like that I'm sorry!! Just giving ya my thoughts!! Don't give up on art though!! :-D Oddlildude 20:40, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support I like it! It shows the aspects of all games from the series! I have to admit, the octo head is... off. SplatGuy (talk) 01:34, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support It's strange, I'm honestly finding it hard to place what feels inherently off to me about this logo. I love the varying colours for the different games, the clarity in the logo, the show of synergy between the octo & squid to demonstrate the new direction of the franchise, all of it. But something about this feels almost not Splatoon; maybe it's the fact that the franchise tends to lean away from minimalism? I don't know. + Regarding past comments, I really don't think the line break in the wordmark is that bad at all- I love the drip from the I onto the E. However, yeah, it may make it seem like this site is 'Inki Pedia' so all combined into one line would likely be for the best. 🐙owen⛥puppy⛥21🐙 (talk) 02:08, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support I enjoy the bright poppy colors, it does remind me of Splatoon, but it is missing something...Oh yeah! The chaos. I don't have great feelings about the wordmark, and I think it is a bit too quirky. Lazyfish (talk) 11:04, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Oppose I think it is a very bold design with a bunch of color, but I don't really like the way the wordmark is broken up. I feel like the shapes of the octo and squid are a little off, but the wordmark needs the most work. AgentVeemo (talk) 11:23, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral. I really like the yin-yang, color and its alternate theme of this logo. It's very refreshing and is really well made. The theme fits "2" really well. Going into "3" with all the "tri-" emphasis might make the two sides coin less relevant. Also, the current variations are of each game's color and not something that would last the test of time. I also wish like others said before me that the wordmark be one word instead of being split into two lines. Shahar (talk) 13:17, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Support. (After the revised version) I like the unified format and the improvement of the squid's eyes to make them bigger and more poppy. The outlines improve the readability of the logo and the flexibility of the colors is growing on me. We could probably switch per game's theme or we could find a certain combination of colors to stick to. Let me know if you would want to open a discussion about the colors. Shahar (talk) 08:48, 7 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support The clean, modern look is truly refreshing to look at but the one thing that stands out most is alternate color schemes. It could definitely make the wiki more interesting if we actually changed the colors more often, or made it as a personal choice. Overall love it. - Woomy? (talk) signature signature 14:33, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support Strong Support The logo looks really nice, I really like how the squid and octopus fit together, but I am worried that the squid and octopus look too different to Splatoon's Inklings and Octolings. With the revised design, this isn't an issue anymore.  GX_64 (talk)  15:29, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support. I like the simplicity of this design, and how for future games the color of the logo could be changed. The concept of the squid and octopus making a compass is real nice too. Something does feel off about it, I guess the shape of the squid and octopus isnt Splatoony enough? Rassicas {Talk} {Contribs} 21:23, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support. The logo is very clean and well designed, and has a fantastic concept behind it. I do feel like this logo is a bit harsh on the eyes due to the strongly contrasting colors, and may be difficult to tell what it is at smaller sizes. Overall, I think the logo is clever, but readability could be improved. Whitmustard [TALK] 00:21, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strongest Support. By far the best design from this contest -- it's sleek and modern yet still bold and attention-grabbing, it makes its Splatoon influences clear while maintaining a unique visual identity, it isn't tied to one specific game but can easily be adapted to match any color palette as necessary... I think we've found a winner in this one! The biggest criticism people seem to have with it is the standalone wordmark looking a bit awkward in two pieces; I personally don't mind this at all, but even that could easily be altered if consensus deems it necessary. Overall, an excellent job! Mahoxy (talk) 01:16, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support. I like the simplicity and color but is still very modern great job.Sachew (talk) 02:41, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support. The logo has been a great one to represent because of the squid and octopus and the colors! SeanTheInkling (talk) 03:55, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral. I honestly think that this logo has great qualities, but I think the octopus looks a bit more like a jellyfish (maybe it's just the way it has very little shape???). I really like the color contrast, and I think the font looks really good! I just think it looks a bit more like a jellyfish and an inkling than an octopus and an inkling. I have mixed feeling about it, but I definitely couldn't make something like that. Props to you for being able to do that! [[User:Clarinet.octo|Clarinet.octo]] ([[User talk:Clarinet.octo|talk]]) (talk) 20:09, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support While being almost close to oversimplification, it's a good candidate for replacing the current logo. Although it's not my favorite I have to commend the design as it's very synchronized and has a style that doesn't just apply to one installment of the series (I don't refer to the color with this one but the form in general). Perfectionist (talk) 23:49, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Not much for me to say that other opposers haven't already said about this one, but basically I just think it looks off and doesn't fit very well as the logo. Hewer (talk · contributions) 14:51, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak support After seeing the mockups of the redesign, my opinion on this logo has absolutely improved, and I now think it looks like it could fit the wiki well. While it's still not my favourite one here, I wouldn't be too upset if this ended up being the logo. Hewer (talk · contributions) 19:40, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral. The incorporation of the octopus in addition to the squid in a generally pleasing design is great. The ease at which the colors can be adjusted according to the main colors of a future installment or even splatfests is appealing. I do worry that the lighter colored wordmark may be difficult to read on white backgrounds, but there are uncomplicated fixes for that. Centritide. 22:10, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Upon taking another look at the logo, I'm not as sold on it as I was previously. Others have mentioned that the shape of the cephalopods in the logo seems a little off somehow, and I've come to agree. They remind me of the squid/octo icons in the Splatoon 3 HUD, visible in the salmon run and release date trailers, due to their inorganic, rather geometric shape and straight tentacles. As a matter of personal taste, I did not love the icons when I saw them in the trailers, and I don't love them here either. I still do like the ideas in this one. Centritide. 04:21, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
      • Wow. The added outline fixes the readability issue and really pops. What a way to turn a downside into a beautiful improvement. Centritide 07:31, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strongest support This logo just makes every single other one look like crap. How the ink and octo sides of the logo cross, the splash marks lining the whole thing together, and the text being split up like that... if this doesn't become the accepted logo I am going to make like a possum and drop down on the floor. Vcuum (talk) 20:00, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Hey! I really appreciate that you liked my logo that much, but I feel you shouldn't put the other logos down because of that! Everyone here also had a lot of effort making their proposals. ninckmane (talk) 02:27, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Oppose The small caps is very unreadable. The D is filled in but the P and A are not, the N is a lowercase design, the K's curves make it look like an R at small resolutions… just doesn't look professional or good at all, imo. –Eli (talk) 04:32, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support I prefer this logo because it is very unique and different from the current logo. If the logo is to be replaced, I think that the new logo needs to be significantly different compared to the other logo and I don't think any of the other logos fit that requirement. Also, I really like the unique font. EminenceTalk 11:26, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose I have a few things to say about this design...
    (1) I personally think this design leans to much on being modern. The way people perceive something as modern changes a lot over time. Right now modern is very close to minimalism, which happens to be exactly what this logo is, minimalistic/simple. But its hard to say how long this current perception of modern will last, and at least to me, it looks like its already reaching its end. (I could be very wrong about this.) If our current definition of modern doesn't last, I fear this logo won't either.
    (2) To me it is clear this design of the Squid and Octopus is basing itself on what we currently believe to be the in-game icons on the UI. (Think from the salmon run: next wave trailer.) It does have changes, but its still leaning on Splatoon 3's UI design, which not only completely ignores Splatoon 1 and 2. It is also subject to change. For example, think about how in the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire, there were place holder Squid Icons, this might happen with Splatoon 3. Also when was the last time we've seen these icons, The release date trailer, which came out in April (5 months before the game itself is supposed to). (Also the trailer might also be older than we think, after all it is only turf war.) I don't think this Icon would work anywhere near as well if the Squid and Octopus Icons were majorly changed.
    (3) This reason is more of a food for thought kind of thing, but to me this logo design feels like it isn't following the general design language of Splatoon. To me the design of Splatoon is Nonconformity, or simply not doing what every body else is doing, and to me this design is doing exactly what every other logo is doing, simplifying. Which might not be a bad thing, its just something to think about.
    (4) Lots of other people have said this, but they mostly say they don't know why. I think I might have an idea. The Squid and Octopus just feel wrong. It's hard to describe, but I think its partially because the ink splashes aren't at the top/head of the Squid/Octopus. I also think that the tentacles play a part in the weirdness. Or just how small they are, it just feels wrong to have the tentacles be so small. They're might be more to it, but I think I'm pretty close as to why they feel weird.
    (5) The wordsmark's font is just weird. Firstly the font makes it look like the top is cut off. And the logo makes the workmark feel like it should be more rounded than it is. Small nitpicks but I felt like sharing my opinions on the wordmark.
Overall, it all just combines to feel a bit off, or well at least it does to me. - Brycerw11 (talk) 07:51, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
    Reply[reply]
    • @Brycerw11 Thanks for the incredibly in-depth breakdown of your opinion! I really appreciate it! One thing to note, the logo wasn't actually based on Splatoon 3's UI, funny enough. I did the sketch without ever thinking (or remembering) that UI detail from 3, so I guess it really is more of a coincidence. I'm currently working on some tweaks for the logo, but I won't make many sweeping changes considering this is the last round. Thanks a lot though!! ninckmane (talk) 01:58, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Strong Support First off thanks to @ninckmane for taking the time to read this absolute block of text, but with the new revised design my opinion has changed. Now that the ink swoosh is move closer to the top of the Octoling, and the outline has been added, this is, in my opinion, the new best design. I like the contrast the outline brings and the way it just works with the design, I wish I could create another block of text as to why this design is my new favorite and why I was being to harsh the original design (I wish I talked more about the positives of the design too), but it was long enough making the first block of text. Never the less, I went through, and striked through everything my opinion has changed on. (Which was everything) Great Design -- Brycerw11 (talk) 08:17, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support Out of the current options, this is probably the most practical. But for this vote I'm going to step outside my own shoes and look at this from everyone else's opinion. Pros: Has both a squid and octopus, Has different color palettes for each game, won't look out of place on a wiki. Neutrals/Wavering opinions: Has minimalist look, squid and octopus shape is odd to some. Cons: Cut off word mark, font is generally odd, leans a little more towards a Splatoon 3 design than a Splatoon 1 or 2 design. Overall, the pros and neutrals weigh out the cons, and this logo did seem more popular then some of the other ones, so this is probably the best for the wiki. ArivakiVA (talk) 11:21, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support Support While this has never been my favourite of the options in the logo contest, being a bit too simplistic with somewhat harsh colours, it does look fairly clean with a unified wordmark. I would not be incredibly opposed to this logo turning out to be the winner of the contest, so long as the unified wordmark is the one used. VSerpent (talk) 17:43, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • I actually quite like the revised design of this logo. The shadows help tone down the brightness of the colours and give the logo more depth. I'm glad that changes were made. VSerpent (talk) 22:32, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Revised Design After all of the feedback, and a few weeks of thinking about ways to improve the logo, I came up with a revision that tries to address some of the criticisms while still keeping the base design intact! I added an outline to help with readability, as well as it looking more dynamic, and tweaked the squid eyes, colors and shapes a little bit. Oh, and the wordmark is combined again, it looked better with the outline. Hope you guys like it!! ninckmane (talk) 04:37, 7 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Small detail, but for some reason when converting the logo from .ai to .svg the squid and octo get a little misaligned. In the original file, this problem doesn't exist. If anyone knows how to solve this, please help me!
    • I really like the revised design! The eyes look much better, much more like the Splatoon's squid and octopus icons. I think that the outline helps for readability, especially on different color backgrounds. Also, I had an idea for something that could help hide the misalignment, you could try making a sort of background with either the octopus or squid to go behind the other one's tentacles. I do not have my Adobe Illustrator license from high school anymore, but I will see if I can try and fix it with Inkscape.  GX_64 (talk)  05:49, 7 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • The revised eyes look a lot better imo, and the combined word-art looks great! I also like there's a drop-shadow, but it feels like it might be too large/intense, making it hard to read? That may just be me though, but I feel like it's worth bringing up incase anybody else has the same issue. Overall like the direction of this revision though! 🐙owen⛥puppy⛥21🐙 (talk) 22:07, 7 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong support. I wasn't too sure about this logo before, I didn't even leave a vote here until now. But now that it has the combined wordmark and outline, I can say I definitely support this logo. It has original art and a unique identity while clearly referencing the game, which is exactly what wiki logos should do, in my opinion. It's colorful and the color scheme can easily be changed, which is something that people may come to expect in the future as ink color combinations are such a prominent aspect of Splatoon games. If we chose this we could probably change the logo regulary, a new color scheme every month or every few months maybe. I love how the wordmark is basically dripping ink, it doesn't get more Splatooney than that! Heddy (talk) 23:17, 7 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong support I love it. This my favorite so far. It represents Splatoon 3 the most with the purple and yellow, especially with the octoling and inkling to match. It's the perfect mix of minimalism and uniqueness. I really like the drop shadow, it adds contrast. I like the font too. Calimarie12 (talk) 04:40, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support. I love the wordmark and the drip font, but the artwork doesn't do it for me. I think it's a bit too simple. Still a solid candidate though, and I'd be happy to see it win. Meganium39 (talk) 11:10, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support I really like the simplicity of this one, while still being fun and very splooney. I'm not sure which color would be best if it were to win (probably 3) but I like all of them and this design is great! WoomyGirl85 (talk) 14:49, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Oppose. I'm sorry to whoever made this logo, but it looks really bad in my opinion. It wouldn't be so unfitting if the squid and octo looked anything like the ones in official Splatoon material. I can understand wanting the wiki to have its own identity, but wiki logos should do that while still looking like the stuff from the game. Look at Mario Wiki and Pikipedia's logos, they give off a unique feel to their respective wikis while still looking like the referenced objects in the actual games. This logo does not do that. Untitled-1 (talk) 21:43, 12 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Hey @Untitled-1 ! While I agree that the squid and octo shapes on the logo don't recall to the "generic" squid icon from the games, I think the games have shown us time and time again that the representation for the squids and octos can take many shapes (exemplified by the UI icons for Splatoon 3, as someone else mentioned, the loading screen squids and other elements), and I took that liberty to follow what I wanted aesthetically for the logo. Anyway, I tried to recall more to the game using features such as the eyes, the ink swirls and the colors, as well as taking inspiration from some logos in-game. Though, I can see your point and do agree, to some extent. Thanks for sharing! | ☆ ninckvinny ☆ Talk 22:45, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Thank you for your reply @Ninckvinny. I do apologize if my criticism was too rude, it was just that at the time, the logo didn't really evoke much "Splatoon" to me. However, if you really did create it with the game's aesthetics in mind, then I won't lose sleep if it becomes the new logo. Untitled-1 (talk) 17:59, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support Very original design but in Splatoon canon with the respawn point like circle. I love the contrasting colours. Vectorised means should be okay to change in future with new colour schemes and events. Slate Talk Contribs 16:24, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Proposal 7: unified vs. split wordmark

This is a focused discussion about unified vs. split wordmark. For general Proposal 7 discussion, see the section above.

  • I noticed some comments about the wordmark, and the artist stated they are open to unifying it, as shown in Round 1. So, if this logo were to win, which wordmark style would you prefer, and why? Heddy (talk) 00:37, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Mockups:

Unified vs. split wordmark discussion

  • Reminder that, the broken off wordmark was a way to make the whole wordmark bigger, and more readable when compared to the standard, unified word, considering the sizing guidelines from the contest. I made this decision thinking about how it might look on situations where the logo is small, if you guys think that it's not that big of a deal, or that it was readable even with the unified wordmark, I can definetly change it! ninckmane (talk) 01:32, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • To people who support this logo in its current state, would you still support it if the wordmark is combined?
If we can get some mockups, it may be easier to answer that question. Heddy (talk) 03:07, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I slightly prefer the combined wordmark because then the word "Inkipedia" doesn't look like two words. I understand the advantage of the split one as well so I am fine with both.  GX_64 (talk)  05:41, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I think that I prefer combined if I had to choose, but I am actually very accepting of both. As GX 64 mentioned, not looking like two words is a good reason to go with combined. Heddy (talk) 07:56, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I'm open to both, but looking at the full site mockups, I definitely prefer the unified version. 🐙owen⛥puppy⛥21🐙 (talk) 22:38, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Personally I enjoy the split wordmark more, because while the combined wordmark makes it look more like one word, it would be harder to read. Also, with the split wordmark, the text is bigger, which is mostly why I like it. Octohachi (talk) 12:31, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Combined over split imo, makes things much clearer and easier to read. (And I wasn't kidding when I said this logo grew on me, I'm considering putting it as my mouse cursor) Avery_TSP (conversing) 15:12, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Combined, easy. I prefer it because it's more symmetrical, giving it a better look. It would also be more confusing with the split wordmark for people joining the wiki, as it makes it look like two words instead of one. • Personally, I think it looks better as a split wordmark, but I'm fine with it either way. EminenceTalk 11:28, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I know this is going to be a hot take, but I personally think the split one is easier to read than the combined one. Maybe if people really demanded the combined text, you could split the text up into 2 different colours? I think that would be the best way of solving the problem. Vcuum (talk) 20:07, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • While I do love the split wordmark's "drip" into the bottom half, I think the unified wordmark is easier to read and looks cleaner - Woomy? (talk) signature signature 23:01, 4 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Adding something I forgot to mention! I think it's important to see the changes on the Modern Vector mockups specifically, because they present the biggest change in terms of readability and size for the wordmark. ninckmane (talk) 15:24, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I'd support this logo if it had a unified wordmark. Shahar (talk) 17:59, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I like the split one a lot more. It looks fun and interesting, but the unified one is a lot more readable. So, personally, I like split more, but unified may be a better choice. Calimarie12 (talk) 04:40, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Proposal 8

Inkipedia Logo Contest 2022 - Skua - Logo Proposal 1 V4.png

Proposal 8 discussion

  • Strong Support. My favorite one so far. This is absolutely amazing, even if it isn't that different from the old logo. It fits really well with the ink splatters, and overall this is a perfect logo for Inkipedia. OrderSquid38 (talk) 11:20, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support. It is neither too much nor too simplified. This proposal shows that you can be creative without overdoing it. The squid logo has been given a nice colorful addition, and the way "Inkipedia" is written in the same font as the games themselves complements it very well. Skua has outdone themself and created a logo that feels like it was officially made by Nintendo. And due to it being so faithful looking, it gets the Perfectionist-Approval, which isn't worth more than a normal vote, but it's still very rare. If the original Logo has to be replaced I would have no problem with this one becoming its successor. Perfectionist (talk) 12:19, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose. I don't really have a clue as to how this one slipped into the final round, but criticize I must... Okay, firstly, the wordmark is just...not appealing. I don't know how to describe it, but it certainly doesn't fit with the icon at all, and having a very curved wordmark like that doesn't look great on other skins/devices due to the added vertical height and it not being anchored to a 90° angle on the site. As for the icon, it makes me a little uncomfortable. The eyes though. The EYES. Not only do they not line up with the squid's torso, but they're literally ripped straight from the Splatoon logo.
Overall, while objectively clean, this logo feels generic, a little uncreative and nothing about it really has that 'wiki' kinda look and feel, and the lack of any defined angles and correlation between the logo and wordmark makes it look floaty and out of place. PrincewaveSquindows95 CP TalkPage.jpgSquindows95StartButton.jpg 13:32, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support Have to agree with Princewave in regards to the wordmark and all, but I think the logo isn't out of place with how certain other wikis put it, say Super Mario Wiki with its mushroom-shaped logo. I'm very happy though that you managed to fix several issues from your first iteration. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 15:53, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support I liked the OG one better. Simple and official. But this one, while still official, looks a bit...off. Not sure how to describe it fully, but the eyes of the squid look out of place and at the wrong angle, kind of like what @Princewave said. But congrats Skua, and keep designing. Goldeη1talkInkipedia Logo Contest 2022 - DedSplat1369 - Icon Proposal 7.png 21:26, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose I hope I won't sound too harsh, but I don't really like this logo to be honest. The color palette isn't great in my opinion, the position of the eyes bothers me a bit and, while I appreciate that it kept the Splatoon aesthetic and used the title font, it also feels a bit generic to me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cosmo95 (talkcontribs) 21:56, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose. Sadly, although the wordmark is beautiful and I would be more than happy to have that as a thing any day, the logo itself strikes me as uninspired and no real improvement over the current one. Yes, it's more colourful, but it's also based directly on Nintendo assets, which we're explicitly trying to avoid. And, yeah - those eyes. Sorry! GloverMist (talk) 21:59, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support I really like this logo and how it fits the splatoon theme. The color scheme if cool and makes it pop really well. I kind of wish it was an octopus though...Octohachi (talk) 13:08, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong support This is my favorite logo out of the bunch. While I agree that the eyes could be better aligned, the logo captures the Splatoon feel perfectly. I love the originality of having the squid with ink splotches inside of it instead of a squid with ink in the background. Plus, the wordmark looks just like the real thing and I love that. It's simple, clean, fits the series perfectly, and I very much hope this one gets the top spot. Avery_TSP (conversing) 16:49, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose I'm sorry! The logo just feels kinda bland!! I'm not trying to be harsh!! The squid with splats on it just seem very simple!! Some simple stuff is good but this isn't that wonderful. The font isn't super appealing!! (The Splatoon logo pulls it off but sadly not this!!) I hope i didn't come off harsh but if ya keep working you will improve!! The logo isn't bad it's just too simple for the wiki logo!! I do understand what you were going for though!! Oddlildude 20:24, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Don't want to be mean as I know this took effort ofc, but I really don't like this logo for a number of reasons. The squid and the logo text don't have much visual cohesion, the eyes are drifting to the side in an off-putting way, the colours for this are more reminiscent of Spla2n than the upcoming third game with the primary use of bright green religating purple and yellow to the small splats, and overall it feels... tacky? I sound so mean saying that, sorry, but with how it all comes together that's how it feels to me. 🐙owen⛥puppy⛥21🐙 (talk) 01:06, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support. I really love the way this logo design looks. In consideration of other comments, I do think it doesn't include much theme for the upcoming Splatoon 3. But given the fact Splatoon is now becoming a brightly colored trilogy it seems fitting to not fully include just Splatoon 3's dusty wasteland theme. I don't love how the "I" came out (I just thought it looked unnatural), but I really enjoy the eye for detail you gave the wording. The ink inside the inkling reminds me of the original Splatoon a lot, and I will say that given the game now has playable octolings this seems a little dated. Even with these minor setbacks I would still give this logo my full support. This is my favorite one so far! • Oppose Not to break any feelings, but I'm not loving it. If the font was different and the colors were more chaos themed...It would be a lot better. Lazyfish (talk) 11:07, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Suppport. Colorful, fresh, very ecstatic pleasing. Really well-made wordmark that looks like the games' logos and is relevant to the games' universe. It does not bind itself to a certain game theme. It could last the test of time. Shahar (talk) 13:17, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Compared to the current one, this one is less aesthetically pleasing and just feels a bit dull (Sorry, honest opinion 😥 ) - Woomy? (talk) signature signature 14:25, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support. I like the wordmark and the general Splatooniness, I feel it could stand the test of time. But like others have said, not a huge fan of the angle of the eyes. I think its nice, but it doesn't really wow me. Rassicas {Talk} {Contribs} 21:25, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong support I feel like this logo fits both Splatoon and the wiki the best out of all of these as well as just looking nice, it feels like a direct improvement of the current logo. I also don't think it's a problem that it isn't themed around Splatoon 3, since it does a better job at representing the whole series. Hewer (talk · contributions) 14:51, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose. While I'm in favor of the simplicity of this one, the color splashes around the edge of the squid don't look fantastic against the legacy/timeless skins, and there's something off about it that I can't quite identify. The wordmark is something I like, but the smaller letters are nearly unreadable at small sizes. Centritide. 22:24, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support. It looks pretty cool and I just love it. The wordmark looks like the iconic Splatoon logo. It looks so good and I love the simplicity of the design. Louis Campfield (talk) 03:15, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Oppose The logo looks very Splatoon-Esau's, and it's a good idea, but I don't think it would work for Inkipedia in the long run. It feels a bit messy and all-over the place to me, and I think that we should have a more clean and well rounded logo. However, I do love the idea! Keep it up, Skua! HalfSanitized (talk) 12:29, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose One word. Cliché. This logo doesn't do a good representation of how the Splatoon series currently is, instead aiming for something a bit more Splatoon 1. Not that that's inherently wrong, but like I said earlier, big cliché alert. Vcuum (talk) 20:11, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Okay, don't get me wrong, this is a nice logo, but it doesn't fit with the theme of Splatoon 2 or Splatoon 3, or even being a wiki logo. It seems like it's only really trying for a artsy look, and not much else. ArivakiVA (talk) 10:56, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose This logo never felt very natural or clean to me. The eyes are at an odd angle, the squid itself feels too two-dimensional, and the wordmark simply doesn't rub me the right way. I can't really see it as the logo for the website, unlike a few of the others. I really just don't like it, I'm afraid. VSerpent (talk) 17:51, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose. The curvature on the wordmark makes it look distorted and hard to read, it's too similar to the old logo, and the eyes don't line up with the silhouette. Not a fan. Meganium39 (talk) 11:06, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose I like the logo it's just too... meh. It's nice, but it looks like a slightly splattered version of the current logo. The squid design is just a bit overused and bland looking. Again. not a bad logo, just too similar to the one we've got right now. WoomyGirl85 (talk) 14:49, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support. This logo would have worked really well if Splatoon 1 was still the current game, and it doesn't look bad in my opinion. But it doesn't well reflect the modern state of the Splatoon series nor does it evoke anything about Splatoon 3, so my support for this logo is limited. Untitled-1 (talk) 21:49, 12 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong oppose. I feel bad having to be this harsh but it just doesn't work for me. With the neon colours clashing on top of the harsh green, the slanted eyes, I just feel like theres better options. If theres one thing I do like about this, its the way they replicated the series logo, but I just dont feel like it's professional looking enough to warrant it being the official site logo. Hario337 (talk) 14:43, 14 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose It's clean and I like it, but it's too similar to our current logo and its originality is quentionable with the Nintendo graphics. Slate Talk Contribs 16:24, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Strong Support This example may not be the most Splatoon themed, but I *love* the Sunken Scrolls Vibe and colours. As a budding artist who was unfortunately late to enter this is great. Redacted Squid (talk) 20:48, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Oppose. I like the gold and blue in this, but it doesn't fit well with the Splatoon colors. I like the concept but I'm just a bit concerned about the aesthetic. OrderSquid38 (talk) 13:51, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support. I love that this logo is not bent toward to a specific game in the Splatoon series. I love the creativity in this and how it is nowhere near the original logo. I really enjoy that on the example page, the Inkipedia theme is set to blue. Thank you for this proposal. AlphaMale300 (talk)
  • Support: The first version of the logo looks clean and sleek, very organized, and represents Inkipedia well. I also love how it's based on the sunken scrolls! HalfSanitized (talk) 14:13, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support The 1920s charm of this logo is beautiful in its own way, and in comparison to the other logos here I feel this one has the most creative idea presented for Inkipedia's logo. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 15:53, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support. It looks very eye-catching with its font and picture reminding me of a card game, yet subtle enough to let a person still be able to focus on the page itself. Also, I agree with HalfSanitized: The sunken scroll design is a nice touch. Chaos Agent (talk) 17:28, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Strong support. By far my favourite of the nominees! This is incredibly clean, incredibly original, and incredibly stylishly put together. I much prefer the first design to the second for the colour scheme, but both work well. This is the kind of thing that fits the bill as a professionally-made wiki logo perfectly and the one I would be most happy to use on the site. GloverMist (talk) 21:59, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral I quite like how this logo made a sunken scroll encyclopedia and a squid bookmark. I have a preference towards logo that are more heavily inspired by the game's aesthetic, but I wouldn't mind having this one as a logo. Cosmo95 (talk) 22:02, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support I am a huge fan of the design work you did for this logo, and I think the idea came out fantastically! But at the same time, I feel like the color schemes and the font don't mesh too well with the game's style. Despite that, I think it would still look great as the logo! ninckmane (talk) 22:20, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support. I really enjoy how it plays into making it look like the Sunken Scrolls and how it sorta ties into how the Sunken Scrolls give information about the world of Splatoon. I really would love to see this one as the logo for the wiki. Bundle (talk) 14:02, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support. I really like this one it looks very clean and kind of gives me a retro vibe. Hescracked75 (talk) 16:11, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Oppose I like that it's based on the Sunken Scrolls, which is great for a wiki. But there are a few problems. The colors don't match the Splatoon games, the logo is very fuzzy around the edges, and the outlining and shading could definitely use some work. The wordmark fits well with the logo and not so much for the wiki, and the large drop shadow doesn't help. Avery_TSP (conversing) 03:47, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Now that the third color scheme is out, I was hoping some things I had issues with would be fixed. But the only thing that really changed was the color scheme. I was hoping for a stronger color change like making the book green and the squid pink, and sadly the green squid/wordmark just doesn't cut it for me. I'm having a little trouble explaining it (sorry!) but I think the third revision looks like what the Halloween version of the first two would look like. The green is sort of trying to be pastel and neon at the same time and it just ends up looking, for a lack of better way to put it, sickly. Also, nothing else about the logo has been changed. In Proposal 7's revision, the 'main part' of the revision was the outline being added, but the logo was changed in other ways too, such as the wordmark being combined, the eyes and ink being slightly changed, etc. With this revision, the fuzz is still there, the outline still clips into the logo, and the drop shadow is still a bit excessive. Avery_TSP (conversing) 16:13, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Hey Avery, just chiming in due to the last thing you said on your comment. Yes, I did change and tweak my logo in some very noticeable ways, but still, I wouldn't want that to set a precedent for the other contestants to follow, considering redesigning the logo in a bigger scale might take more time/mental capacity that might not be available currently (as well as it being possible that the creator just doesn't agree with changes being proposed, the creator's vision is an important thing to consider too!). I did my revision due to having the time and it not being too complex to edit due to the way it was done, but I can't say that everyone can have the same opportunity. | ☆ ninckvinny ☆ Talk 00:45, 18 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support This is my favorite logo submission. It's modern but not super undetailed, and I like how it's not leaning towards one color palette in the Splatoon franchise. I also realized it looks like a sunken scroll, which is just adorable. Tons-of-ducks (talk) 17:14, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral The logo is good!! Maybe too good!! Your work is wonderful but I don't think that the style yells SPLATOON!! (I mean the little squid does!!) It is great!! Don't give up on your talent!! :-D Oddlildude (talk)AnemoneNo1.jpg 16:40, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support I think this one works well since this Is a wikipedia site so people come here looking for facts and knowledge about the game. Gamergirl4 (talk) 19:03, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support I adore so much about this logo- It embodies that vibe of a wiki so well imo, and whilst obviously alluding to Splatoon, it manages to be entirely unique in its own way. However, I do have to add that the colours feel a little too detached from the franchise aesthetic personally, but this is still my favourite by far! 🐙owen⛥puppy⛥21🐙 (talk) 01:30, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral. I'm really trying to like it but there are many nuances that bother me. For once, the blue-gold neon Tron color is a bit bothersome. The current color theme of the wiki is green to navigate the wiki while the external links are blue. Having the logo in its current form would mean changing the color theme of the wiki and how we differentiate between internal and external links. I personally think an old rugged brown book with green kelp color text would fit much better. Second, the eyes kinda remind me of Window's old office assistant Clippit (also named Clippy) that stares into your soul and wants your attention. Third, I currently don't find it close enough to the Splatoon art style. This might lead to assets being incompatible and would require a complete overhaul of the art style in the wiki. It looks appealing and is really well made. I'd love to see more variations of it to get my vote. Shahar (talk) 01:57, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral I think the gold is nice with Chaos winning and everything. I do love me some sunken scrolls, but I think that the book could be more curved and rough around the edges for the theme. The colors are a little pastel as well, but that is a minor detail. Good job. Lazyfish (talk) 11:16, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support I like the style of the squid bookmark on the sunken scroll themed book. I preferred the colors when they were themed around the games and brighter, but gold and blue works too. I would certainly like if you changed the colors, even if not based around a specific game, to a color pair other than gold and blue. The base design is good though. AgentVeemo (talk) 11:28, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support I agree with most of the people here, the design is wonderful! I just don't think the colors match the wiki or Splatoon at all. Splatoon is a very brightly colored game and this pastel color scheme doesn't match that. - Woomy? (talk) signature signature 14:27, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support. I really like that the color schemes are not based on a particular game, because of that I think that the logo will be able to be used for a long time.  GX_64 (talk)  15:17, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strongest Oppose I like the logo and all, but I don't think it is really good for the inkipedia, as splatoon focuses on extremely vibrant colors, and the colors here aren't so vibrant. It could definitely be improved so... sorry.Octohachi (talk) 18:19, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support. I think this is the strongest candidate. I criticized this before, but the main thing I take issue with is the font of the wordmark, as it's too art-deco-y doesn't fit with Splatoon's aesthetic. I also worry about the color scheme matching with the rest of the website. The core concept of the squid bookmark slaps tho Rassicas {Talk} {Contribs} 21:09, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support. I am a big fan of the icon itself and the idea behind it, and I do think that the teal colors of the submission from round one would fit Splatoon in general a lot better than the current version. My main complaint is that the font could be experimented with a bit, but that might undermine the logo too much. Overall this is very strong! Whitmustard [TALK] 00:15, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Oppose. Sorry. I really do think this design has a lot of charm, especially in the way it incorporates a squid design as the bookmark, but the generic color scheme and odd choice of font really just don't mesh with the aesthetics of Splatoon and of this wiki. It feels more like "a wiki logo that happens to incorporate Splatoon" than "a Splatoon wiki logo," if that makes any sense. Mahoxy (talk) 01:16, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose I don't want to be rude, but I don't really get the design. I don't understand the squid-bookmark thing, and the book with a question mark makes little sense to me. I think the color scheme is cool, but I would have to say it's not attractive to me. I'm sorry!!! • Hey! I think the book with a question mark is representing the Sunken Scrolls! And then the inkling bookmark is meant to go together with this idea, taking the -pedia (encyclopedia) from the name as a skeuomorphism for physical encyclopedia books! ninckmane (talk) 22:30, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • I understand where the bookmark thing is coming from, I just don't exactly support it. I probably should've worded it better. I didn't know what that reference with the question mark was. Thanks! User:Clarinet.octo|Clarinet.octo (talk) 00:54, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • I think that's a bit too literal of an interpretation… this is an encyclopedia of knowledge, and encyclopedias are books which are often organized and marked with bookmarks. The question mark is because encyclopedias give information on subjects and question mark imagery is an extremely common way to represent this type of thing, concepts of searching for information, etc. –Eli (talk) 04:36, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose My apologies, but I feel that this logo just doesn't fit. Ironically, the clean art style is one of my favorites, but it doesn't match Splatoon's style (even more so now that Splatoon 3 is on the way). The squid is well placed as a bookmark and the integration of the Sunken Scrolls "?" is helping at least a bit. However, if it didn't say "Inkipedia" underneath, I could easily imagine some people not being able to associate this logo with Splatoon at first to second glance and therefore I have to oppose. Perfectionist (talk) 22:55, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support. The shinyness and eccentric wordmark took some time for me to get used to, but I came to love it. It has almost everything I could want from a wiki logo: (1) It references the Splatoon series while still having its own identity. (2) It's 100% original art, unquestionably. (3) The logo communicates that this is a place of knowledge, very appropriate for a wiki.
However, the logo lacks the "go on, make a mess!" enthusiasm of Splatoon. I'm worried that if we were to change the wiki's background to something inky and messy, this shiny clean logo wouldn't fit in. So, I'd be happy to have this as the wiki's logo in its current state, but I would be even happier if it had some changes to make it less sterile. Heddy (talk) 00:23, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong oppose Like some others have said, this doesn't really fit well with the aesthetic of Splatoon or of the wiki, and in my opinion it's also kind of boring. Also, this is just a personal preference, but I'd rather have a logo that represents the Splatoon games than one that references the wiki itself (in the form of the book). Hewer (talk · contributions) 14:51, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support. This is my clear favorite. The extra depth in its design is what I think puts it above the others, which only have the cephalopods and ink. This logo incorporates more, all without becoming busy. It draws the Sunken Scrolls, an analogue to frankly the only diegetic source of general information in the game, mirroring Inkipedia's role as an encyclopedia. I like the inquisitive character of the Inkling bookmark — it reinforces that Inkipedia is where to go to learn about Splatoon. Additionally, the outline makes the logo appear well against both light and dark backgrounds, allowing it to be used with any theme. I don't think that the departure from the exact aesthetic of the game is an issue, as it still has plenty of personality and the Splatoon series draws from highly varied aesthetic influences. Centritide. 22:43, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support I love the colors and design, it isn't specific to one game and matches the overall virtues of this site, supporting each other and providing truthful information while still having fun and personally connecting. This one looks very clean cut and "profreshonal" as well, and I think it would be a great fit for the wiki!! Octosquidfishyling?!?! .^.^. (talk) 17:25, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support The design itself is very clever, and is not too basic, yet not too complex. I love how it's not specific to any of the three games, and in all honesty, I think it would be great as the new Inkipedia logo. WolfTamer OC Icon Callie Outpost.png 04:39, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak support I'm certainly all in on the idea of the whole squid bookmark thing. I also think that the font looks really great! However, it's not particularly exciting or aesthetically appealing. I think a more minimalistic approach would work much better. I really like what this logo is going for and I really don't want these ideas to go to waste. Vcuum (talk) 20:18, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Very Strong Support The concept & perspective use of the squid as an arrow is very Splatoon-esque in its approach and execution – even better, without being a basic copy/riff on the game's official font, colors, etc. This logo gives the wiki a distinct image and feel, and is by far the absolute strongest out of all designs, and probably one of my favorite logos I've seen for anything ever. –Eli (talk) 04:21, 31 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Oppose While this a cool and inventive design with some interesting uses of iconography from the series, I feel like the style is so wildly different from anything in Splatoon that I don't think it represents the series at all. Siphida (talk) 16:41, 3 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support This design is my favorite of them. I love the concept and style, but I feel like it could be simplified a bit more. The shiny effect adds confusing values. Details like the book core and squid eyes are hard to make out at smaller sizes. I know how hard colors are to work with, but the gold color with blue does not fit splatoon in my eyes. The blue fits well. I suggest experimenting with a more vibrant color such as green, which is seen all around the wiki. With a few adjustments this design could be near perfect! Inktoling (talk) 23:46, 4 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support I do like the encyclopedia/dictionary theme because it does fit with a wiki theme, but the blue and gold aren't really Splatoon or Splatoon 2 colors. The design is nice though, and it could work. ArivakiVA (talk) 10:52, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support Relative to the other proposals, this logo feels the most encyclopedic and organized in nature and I think it'd match the tone of the wiki well, but I wish there was a larger amount of soft colors without ruining the academic feel. Wanumu (talk) 18:21, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support This design is incredibly clever and works really well. While the colours could be a bit better, overall the design works very well. It's smart that the Sunken Scrolls were incorporated into the design, and it's smarter that you used the squid design for a bookmark. It really feels like a Wikipedia logo. You have my top vote. VSerpent (talk) 17:57, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support I love the gold and blue aesthetic on this design, and how clean it is! The squid bookmark idea was really good, and it really captures the essence of a wiki's logo! Leel0oo! :-) (talk) 16:35, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support I love the concept of this logo, and how professional it looks! I think that the second colour scheme looks better as the bookmark will be less flashier than the book, and the blue text for the logo looks cooler in my opinion. Octo$niper (talk) 16:41, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral While I really like the design, I'm not super enthusiastic about the coloration. It's nice, but it doesn't really match the Splatoon colors, and if I saw the logo without context (and without "Inkipedia" written on it) I might not immediately associate it with Splatoon (solely because of the coloration). But overall I think it looks decent, and I wouldn't mind having it as the logo. YourLocalSniper (talk) 18:13, 10 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral. It's a nice, clean aesthetic and a fun design to boot, but I'm not sure about the colours. They're a bit washed out and don't really fit with Splatoon's saturated neon inks. Meganium39 (talk) 11:04, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral I really like this one, it's very clean and the overall design is super cute, however, the colors just aren't really Splatoon-y enough. As people above are saying, Splatoon is more neon, bright colors while the blue and gold is just too soft and relaxed, which, while really nice, doesn't really fit in with the wiki and the games. WoomyGirl85 (talk) 14:49, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support This one sticks out as my favorite design of them all. I get the critique about the colors but I think the design is very clean and would feels very well put together while not being lifeless. Which is close to how I feel about the way the site is written. I hope to see this one make it!Audoodle (talk) 21:04, 11 August 2022 (UTC)audoodleReply[reply]
  • Oppose. This one does not fit the Splatoon style at all (unless MAYBE it was the logo for an in-game brand) and looks like someone trying to make something Splatoon-y while avoiding copyright. It looks good as a standalone work of art, but wouldn't look good for a Splatoon wiki logo. Untitled-1 (talk) 21:53, 12 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support I love this design. Sound artistic theory behind it, including getting blue and yellow to play nicely together and highly original with the squid as a bookmark. I would (have) support this more with vectorised graphics and a more exploitable colour-scheme going forward. Slate Talk Contribs 16:24, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Proposal 14

Inkipedia Logo Contest 2022 - Mr. Hinoshin - Logo Proposal 2.svg

Proposal 14 discussion

  • Weak Support. I've come to really like this logo over the course of the contest, surprisingly enough. Everything is oriented very nicely and the color choice it fitting for the most part. However, that unaltered S2 font for the wordmark could've been more creative imo. I also immensely admire the effort it must've took to vectorize Nintendo's S3 assets like that, but wasn't the whole point of this contest trying to replace a logo that also used images from Nintendo? Correct me if I'm wrong though. PrincewaveSquindows95 CP TalkPage.jpgSquindows95StartButton.jpg 13:32, 17 July 2022 (UTC)7Reply[reply]
  • Neutral. Personally, I think that this logo is too focused on Splatoon 3 and less toward the series in its entirety. I like the logo, but I think you should have gone more toward some different colors to match the series. AlphaMale300 (talk)
  • Support I've loved this logo since Round 1. I really like the Splatoon 3 aesthetic, but a bit concerned that it doesn't fit in with the other games. Still, this is amazing! OrderSquid38 (talk) 13:52, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak oppose I addressed this issue a while back, but in summary: this logo feels like the old Inkipedia logo all over again, angled squid and everything. Also per Princewave for the calligraphy used in the wordmark. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions)
  • Support I LOVED this one from the get go! I like it's themed after Splatoon 3 and its chaotic style. But I kinda agree that some of the graffiti and icons can be confused for official art, along with it centered just on Splatoon 3 itself and not the series as a whole. P.J. • Oppose While I liked the logo itself in the beginning, it poses two problems. One, I think it's a little too busy and overdone in the mockups. Two, it's not creative. Sure, the graffiti was recreated by hand, and sure it uses the S3 color scheme, but all it is is a Splatoon 3 themed logo. If and when we get a Splatoon 4, I don't think this logo will be able to stand the test of time, and will just turn into a generic, outdated logo, causing for another logo contest. I just think that this logo isn't going to last. As harsh as I sounded, I still think that this is still quite the piece of art, and congrats on making this far, Mr.Hinoshin. • Strong Support In my opinion, this logo manages to be unique while still maintaning the aesthetic of Splatoon. It also looks like an upgraded version of the current logo, which I quite like. Sure, it is pretty Splatoon 3 focused, but the wiki itself will probably be more focused on Splatoon 3 when it comes out and we can always change the logo again when a new game comes out. Cosmo95 (talk) 21:51, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral. Almost identical to DedSplat, basically. I love what we've got going here, I stand by my round 1 comment that it slaps, but the fact that it is so specific to Splatoon 3 and also based on Nintendo's designs that we wish to avoid make me hesitant to vote for this as the final logo. Great work, but maybe not one for the wiki. GloverMist (talk) 21:59, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral When the first round started, I was incredibly impressed - and still am - by the work you put on the logo. Vectorizing all assets and everything must not have been an easy job. Though, I do feel it is quite Splatoon 3 branded, and might look a little too busy on small displays. I think it's a great design, but not for the wiki ninckmane (talk) 22:35, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Support I like this logo and how splatoonish it looks with the squid and graffiti stuff. (chaos DID win that splatfest) The Splatoon 3 vibe also is awesome, because splatoon 3 does have the air of the biggest game with an entirely new style. (maybe because I'm fairly new to Splatoon. only been playing for about 2 years, 1 for the original and 1 for Splatoon 2) Awesome job whoever made it. • Strong Support. The Splatlands esque theme hits hard. Splatoon 3 designs like this one have a lot of potential Hescracked75 (talk) 16:11, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak support This logo is good, but a little cluttered. And while it's great for Splatoon 3 specifically, it isn't the best for the whole series. Overall, this logo definitely isn't the worst, but all the background elements are too much for me to rate it any higher. Avery_TSP (conversing) 16:54, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose. There are several reasons why I don't think this is a good fit for Inkipedia. (1) It's very busy. Simple logos are usually more appealing. (2) It's Splatoon 3 chaos themed, making it a better fit for a Splatoon 3 wiki. Imagine if the Mario Wiki logo used an image of the newest power up instead of the classic mushroom which represents all Mario games. It's just so much more elegant to have the logo represent what the wiki is about: all Splatoon games! (3) This logo uses a Splatoon font, which is Nintendo's property. Many wikis probably use fonts/assets from their associated game, so it may seem normal, but I truly believe that this contest is an opportunity for Inkipedia to show other wikis the right way to do things, by having a truly original logo (as in not taking/tracing from other artists), and avoiding the possibility that Nintendo sends a copyright notice to us over the logo. With the 2015 logo, it's questionable if we have the right to put it on a T-shirt. But with a truly 100% original logo, we could make T-shirts or use the logo in any way imaginable without even the slightest fear.
That said, I can't bring myself to dislike this logo. It is clearly well made. From the very start, as the very first submission to the contest, I loved it for being so eye-catching and fresh. But the other logos showed me that it's possible to be eye-catching and fresh while still being timeless, elegant, and problem-free. I can't choose a squid-with-circle logo like this as my favorite when there are such creative alternative logos to choose from, like the squid bookmark logo or the interlocking squid/octo logo. Heddy (talk) 00:04, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Oppose As beautiful as I think this logo is, I feel like if we're going to go out of our way to change the site logo, it should truly be distinct from the original. This logo is really just 'Logo 2015 - Splat 3 Edition' and along with not changing much, it also seems less versatile in terms of scalability, along with relevance to articles on past entries in the franchise. This is still a really well made logo, don't get me wrong, but I struggle to see the practical purpose to rolling this out. 🐙owen⛥puppy⛥21🐙 (talk) 01:58, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak support. As others have said before me, it binds too much link to one game only being the chaos theme of Splatoon 3. It's also very crowded and messy which loads on what the eyes focus on or see at a glance. Shahar (talk) 13:17, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support This is, in my opinion, the best design. Really feels authentically Splatoon and it's crazy how everything was manually recreated. I support the idea of changing the logo more often so the fact that it is Splatoon 3 themed instead of the whole series doesn't bother me that much - Woomy? (talk) signature signature 14:30, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose It's a cool design, but if it's gonna be Inkipedia's logo for the foreseeable future, something that's very clearly tied to Splatoon 3's aesthetic isn't gonna hold up for future installments of the series. I feel it also is a bit too visually busy for a logo. Rassicas {Talk} {Contribs} 21:03, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support. I think that this logo is one of the most readable and obviously "Splatoon" out of all of the submissions. It is a bit busy, but for me, it doesn't detract from the readability of the logo at all due to the high detail being limited to the outside of the logo. While it is very strictly tied to Splatoon 3, I think this logo would be able to be used in the long term, at least until Splatoon 4 comes out in five or more years. However, like others have stated, using recreations of Nintendo made designs might be an issue at some point. Whitmustard [TALK] 01:50, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose. I think this logo is really cool looking, but it doesn't represent the whole series, but Splatoon 3. Splatoon 1 was a bit more basic, and Splatoon 2 goes with a pink and blue vibe more than the graffiti and stickers vibe. Great logo, but a bit too Splatoon 3 focused. User:Clarinet.octo|Clarinet.octo (talk) 23:04, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral The chaotic design matches that of Splatoon 3, but I think it's a bit much considering it's a wiki for the Splatoon series. If the logo changed with each new installment, it would be fitting, but I think it is meant to last longer than 3 to 4 years, which is why I'm staying neutral here. Perfectionist (talk) 23:07, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong support. I personally, really like the chaotic design, and the way it matches what we've seen of the general aesthetic of Splatoon 3. Which is why, in my opinion, this is the strongest proposal. I also think this design proposal is the best at is being unique from the old 2015 logo, but still not being too much of a detour, which I personally like. Also I personally think a new logo that is heavily tied to the design of the latest game in the series (like Splatoon 3) is fine. Brycerw11 (talk) 23:53, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support Although it is based mainly on Splatoon 3, I feel like it's ambiguous enough that it could still represent the whole series and fits with its style regardless. Hewer (talk · contributions) 14:51, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Very Strong Support. To me this is the best design out of the round. The design is appealing, the text is readable and the style is very reminiscent of what Splatoon 3 is going for. With a new game so close to launch I think it would be a waste not to leverage its design identity to welcome potential new players. It subconsciously suggests that this wiki stays up to date with the latest game and data, and it will add a level of familiarity and trust that IMO others logos struggle to achieve. Pomme (talk) 16:07, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral. Artistically, this is a beautiful design. It commits to the Splatoon 3 aesthetic to a fault, which limits it's longevity, but is very well done. However, is that good as a logo? I would argue that it is not. The sharp edges and many colors of the splash of rectangles make it look like a blurry mess at small sizes, which is probably why the icon for this proposal was just the central circle. Unfortunately, that also strips it of all its personality. This is a great design but ultimately not what I would want for the Inkipedia logo. Centritide. 22:50, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support I think it's pleasing to look at, it isn't distracting but it catches your eye. The color scheme is very fun, and the look matches the Splatoon franchise very well. And most of all I think it looks perfect for the Wiki! K Kit (talk) 21:52, 23 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Very Strong Support This logo literally embodies the feeling and aesthetic of Splatoon 3! I think this is a perfect design to take us forward into the Splatoon 3 era of the series. It's clean, it's organized, and it uses lots of different aspects of the game without being too in your face. I love this logo so much! HalfSanitized (talk) 12:28, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose I don't know man... this one just looks so bland and poorly thrown together. It doesn't look pleasing at all to me, and I don't think it has a place on the wiki. Maybe if you were to change the font up a bit I might consider giving it a neutral... but for now it doesn't get my vote. Vcuum (talk) 20:21, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Strong Support While the style does lean on Splatoon 3 to some extent, I don't think that the manic punk style would be amiss representing either of the previous Splatoon games either.
  • Strong Support While this logo certainly leans a bit too far into the Splatoon 3 aesthetic, it looks really, really good. This is one of my favourite logo designs overall, even though we'd probably want to change it when Splatoon 4 comes out. I would be happy with this as our logo. • Strong Support. I really like this logo: it captures the chaotic, dystopian, futuristic themes of Splatoon 3 whilst also not seeming totally out of place with other games' aesthetics. Absolutely my favourite of the options. Meganium39 (talk) 10:59, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support I really like this one! It's been one of my favorites since the beginning, and it really goes well with both the games and the wiki. I especially like the original stickers and graffiti, and it looks very fun and chaotic while also looking professional, like a wiki logo. Awesome job! • Strong Support (Note: I'm 99% positive I already voiced my opinion on this logo, but I can't find my comment anywhere, so I'm going to restate it. If I find my original comment, I'll just cross this one out.) This logo is perfect. It leans into the Splatoon 3 vibe without excluding the other games and the graffiti style and colors are fun and represent the game really well. I also like how it's similar to the 2015 logo. This logo is stylish, screams Splatoon, and is bright and fun without being too in your face. I think it fits this wiki extremely well. YourLocalSniper (talk) 20:56, 12 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support. This is my favorite logo out of all the final contenders. I can see others' criticisms that it's too focused on Splatoon 3, but I think it's neutral enough where that isn't a big issue. Untitled-1 (talk) 22:02, 12 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • (Inkredibly) Strong support. I just loveeeee this one. its a great modernisation of the current logo with all kinds of Splatoony personality in it. As a graphic designer, some of the other logos are either too rough, too colourful, or don't really give me "Splatoon" vibes, whereas this strikes the best balance between having a clean logo and keeping the chaotic charm of Splatoon. • Neutral I love the logo and how much vector work has gone in to it. But it is very busy and we can't exploit the logo going forward, and it's already very Splatoon 3 orientated. As mentioned, I'm also hesitant about being so close to Nintendo's own vectors, you certainly fooled me with how faithful a replication you've done. Proposal 15

Proposal 15 discussion

  • Neutral. I like the squid and octopus in the logo, just the wordmark is the problem. This is kinda a me thing, but I don't really like that the wordmark is in the middle. But other than that pretty good. OrderSquid38 (talk) 13:54, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support. It's not just the wordmark I'm concerned with, but also the icon alone. It's so small to view with the New Vector skin that I think it would've been better to have a different icon present instead of the one in the final product. I still think the two combined are great, but in my opinion both elements alone need to be fixed. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 15:53, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose. In my opinion, the yellow background and the wordmark style don't blend well together and fit the wiki as it is. Plus, I agree with PanchamBro in that the logo can be small in certain device vectors.

  • Weak Support I didn't think much of this logo in Round 1, but when I saw it in the mockups, I thought that maybe It wasn't so bad and gave it a vote. Seeing it in the top 5, I'd like to give it a round of applause. Congrats, and keep improving. • Support. Personally, I think this is a great choice as a wiki logo. The circular design makes it easy to use, the colours compliment each other well for me, and putting the wordmark in the middle is a nice change. Lovely stuff! GloverMist (talk) 21:59, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support. I love the animation you used for the drawing. It is really cool that you added an octoling too, as they are also a big part of the game. I really like the font on it, and how it is similar to the in-game font, but still different. Very cute and very fresh! AgentVeemo (talk) 09:52, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose I don't want to sound mean or anything, but this logo wasn't my favorite at all. the squid and octopus were too small compared to the ink trails and the words were to small compared to the background. Also the yellow background doesn't quite fit with the splatoon 3 color scheme. If you made everything a bit bigger and made one side of the text purple and one side splatoon 3 yellow it would look better. But still good job on making it so far. Octohachi (talk) 13:20, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support Cute, Splatoony, great concept and good execution. I like the background of the wordmark being colored instead of the wordmark itself. My only real problem is the lack of visible tentacles on the squid and octopus (which is really just me being nitpicky). I have this mental image of this logo being flipped around like a coin before screwing down into a round hole where the logo should be, and it's great. Avery_TSP (conversing) 16:59, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong Support You did great! The logo is very cute! I like how you added an octo as well as a squid!! The logo is good even if it isn't a Splatoon font!! This one would be a neat addition for the wiki logo!! :-D Oddlildude 20:32, 18 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral I like a lot about this logo such as the bright colours and the all original art and lettering, but I can't help but worry about the legibility of the logo itself. It's important for logos to have clear, defining shapes, and the amount of smaller details on the ink and squid/octo can make it harder to make out, along with the small size of the squid and octo making it hard to identify them against the ink, as well as a general feeling of there being too much empty space that I just can't shake. 🐙owen⛥puppy⛥21🐙 (talk) 01:21, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose. I was hoping this would be my top choice when I saw the drafts on Discord. It slowly went downhill from there. First, the squid and octo are very small which makes them less of the focus of the logo and the lines and swirls take more of the attention. Second, the logo has the same subject of being "2" yin-yang as Proposal 7. This might work well when the game was about the "2" theme with the dualies but now it kinda slowly falls out of fashion. It also has the green-pink theme of the second game which we slowly drift off of. Third, too simplistic, and looks like a bottlecap or a coaster. It should be impressive and be on the main stage. Fourth, there are a lot of nuances to outlines, shading, and glowing which kinda makes it harder on the eyes. Fifth, the wordmark is very busy and kinda hard to read when it has so many color alterations and is less spaced out. I also agree with PanchamBro about the logo being too small in the new vector skin. Shahar (talk) 13:17, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose While I'm not entirely against this logo, what really bothers me is the yellow background. It clashes horribly with the green and the pink and doesn't look good at all. The squid and octo designs are cool and the ink trail is pretty too. While not having that profreshional look, it still looks very Splatoon. It's just, the background ruins it. The wordmark is not BAD, but it could be better too. - Woomy? (talk) signature signature 14:36, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Neutral I think its really cute art, but I don't feel like it works as a proper wiki logo. I enjoy the circle composition and general concept, but I feel like the squid and octopus are just too small and the logo may be hard to read. Rassicas {Talk} {Contribs} 21:29, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose The artwork is well made and cute, but while I love it as an artwork/fanart I can't say I would like it as the replacement of the current Logo. Perfectionist (talk) 23:13, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak support. I like this logo because it's circular and features both an Inkling and an Octoling. It seems heavily inspired by the 2015 logo, so I compare it with that. With the 2015 logo, there's a squid and a circle around it and it all just looks like it was "stamped", but this logo takes circularness a step further by having the cephalapods make a circle with their ink! In that sense, it's a cute and energetic upgrade over the 2015 logo. The placement of the wordmark in the center makes me question if there's something better that could go in the center, like a globe or pile of books or something. The green top half of the wordmark is slightly harder to read than the bottom pink half of the wordmark, which does bother me. Overall, I like this logo and would be happy to have this as the wiki's logo, but I cannot fully support it because of the feeling that something is "missing" in the center, something for these cute cephalopods to orbit, something other than the wordmark! Heddy (talk) 02:43, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose Basically the same reason as the other opposers, but in particular, even though this is good as fanart, I don't really think it fits as a logo. Hewer (talk · contributions) 14:51, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Support. I really like this one. I think it looks very official, and the inkling and octoling look more realistic than most. I like the word mark a lot, and I think it's very clean looking. It definitely reminds me of an official seal. I think this is really well done. User:Clarinet.octo|Clarinet.octo (talk) 17:53, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Support. I like it! It's fun! The inclusion of the octopus is a plus in my eyes. I think the light colors of the wordmark may make it difficult to read on light backgrounds, even with the outline, but that could be tweaked. The only other complaint I could come up with is that the diagonals on the background circle feel out of place in an otherwise unified design. Centritide. 22:55, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Strong oppose I think this logo could look great if the background were black and you stopped trying to make everything look so sticker-like... but for now this logo is some of the ugliest stuff that has ever cursed my eyes. Vcuum (talk) 20:25, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose. I am very sorry for opposing this proposal, but the Inkling and Octoling do not seem to be the focus of the logo, hence the logo doesn't give a Splatoon-y feel at a brief glance IMO. Maybe make the Inkling and Octoling bigger. The logo is cute, though. — Exaskliri (they/them) (talk | contribs) 09:25, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Weak support. It looks a bit childish and cartoony for my tastes, but it's pretty cute, memorable and unique. I feel like the colour scheme works pretty well too. Meganium39 (talk) 11:01, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak Oppose I like this one as a drawing, but as a logo I'm not sure. The colors and idea is nice, it just doesn't feel super logo-y I guess. It would be a cute sticker, but I just don't know about a wiki logo. The art, wordmark, and overall concept is really cute though. WoomyGirl85 (talk) 14:49, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Oppose. In my opinion, this logo has similar problems to other logos that I've voted some variant of oppose on. In particular, I think the squid and octo are too stylized, making it unfitting for a wiki logo, and it also makes it look too much like someone's trying to avoid copyright. However, the logo looks really cute, so props to the artist. Untitled-1 (talk) 22:07, 12 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Weak support I like the logo. It's very original and like the common respawn theme and how the contrasting colours are laid out. I think the flow of the ink seems too 'solid', but this would make for great pin-badges and stickers because of how clean it is. Slate Talk Contribs 16:24, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

General discussion

  • Know what would be fun? If we hosted a logo contest every other year or so. Maybe not with money as a prize (that would get expensive pretty quick)... but just switching up the logo biyearly to keep things fresh. It would be a nice opportunity for the artists of Inkipedia to show off a little, and a great excuse for the rest of us to argue about something in a civilized manner! ...Anyway, I think it's a cool idea, but I'm really just spitballing here. Avery_TSP (conversing) 03:47, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • That sounds like a fun idea. We might not even need to do prizes. It would be enough of a prize to see my logo on the Inkipedia home page. Maybe we could host it every 2 years or something? AgentVeemo (talk) 11:36, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • The competition is fun but it is a side bonus. The main reason to have this contest is to get a new logo for our wiki for years to come. Too many changes and replacements cause an unstable connection between a certain design to its audience. I believe many Splatoon teams would want artists to draw their logo, and the artists in the Splatoon community always have inspiration for their art. Shahar (talk) 13:17, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Agree with Shahar here, having a consistent logo is important and changing it so regularly wouldn't be a good idea imo. There's always the opportunity to host another kind of art competition with less sweeping change as a result, but I'm unsure how at home that would be on a wiki site. 🐙owen⛥puppy⛥21🐙 (talk) 23:54, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I think it's a great idea, I've really had fun deciding which logos I like, and which ones I don't like, and it makes it feel like my voice matters. I do agree that maybe the cash prize might not be repeatable, but just having a logo that you made on the front page of the wiki of one of your favorite video game series is enough of a prize. If we do do this again, I would probably participate, although I'm not a good artist so I would lose very badly. Octohachi (talk) 14:12, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • The fun you are looking for would be better served by having similar contests for background or general site design. Think about it; websites almost never change their logo (and when they do it's a minor alteration or new color scheme), but background and general design changes are more common. In order to avoid such a contest just becoming another task that someone may or may not get around to, it's important for the contest to be optional, as in no "we will have to repeat this 2 years from now", and no designed-to-expire art.
Recurring logo replacements would harm Inkipedia in terms of recognition and page views, leading to reduced number of editors and ultimately reducing the qualtiy of what Inkipedia is actually about: the articles. Therefore, if you pursue further contests, I urge you to focus on something other than the logo. Heddy (talk) 23:27, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I really like the idea of having background changes every now and then! It would be an awesome way to highlight the amazing art that the community makes, and it also reminds me of Newgrounds lol ninckmane (talk) 00:21, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I love Newgrounds, such a mecca of creativity. We could certainly learn from them, by sourcing background art from the community while always having an iconic, recognizable logo. Heddy (talk) 03:26, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • If we haven't been using the alternative color variants of the current logo, is it a good idea to have color variants off the proposed logos? People may be voting for a variant that may never be seen.
On the note of color, as has been raised previously, can someone clarify that the wiki will change site-wide color schemes to suit a new logo? Otherwise I think mock-ups should be re-submitted using the current (and future) color scheme. Vippy (talk) 00:14, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • The way I see it, this contest will accomplish selecting a general logo design, not a specific color scheme. Logo color scheme will be handled after the contest selects a logo. I see some ideas to consider and discuss, like changing logo color scheme regularly or randomly, or starting with a Splatoon 3 scheme and switching to another after a while. There will definitely be site design changes, though it may take some time considering everything is a volunteer effort. Heddy (talk) 13:29, 21 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • that would be a neat idea! I might participate if we do it (I probably won't win though lol) but it would be nice for the wiki!! Instead of having a great logo collect dust over the years then becoming stale we could freshen it up each year!! :-D I hope this idea becomes a reality!! Maybe not every year but every 2 or 3 years!! Oddlildude (talk)AnemoneNo1.jpg 01:42, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Even if that was a thing, wouldn't people still associate the website as ever changing. The real Wikipedia doesn't change it's color every few years. Shouldn't we just stick to the same logo until further notice? I think a different competition without changing things up all the time would be better. The said competition could probably be held more closely together than 3 to 4 years. Just a suggestion, but I honestly don't know what the new competition would be. User:Clarinet.octo|Clarinet.octo (talk) 01:32, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Hey everyone, reminder to be respectful when leaving your opinions on the logos! Even if you don't particularly like the design, I still am of the opinion that we should be objective, respectful and constructive. ninckmane (talk) 02:37, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Consensus check 1

  • I think at this point we should discuss:
    1. What logo(s) is/are trending towards achieving consensus?
    2. What are the main reasons for each logo not achieving consensus, and what can be done to change that? For example, Proposal 7 seems to have opposers mainly due to split wordmark, and might be more likely to achieve consensus with a combined wordmark. Heddy (talk) 02:48, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I haven't done any statistical analysis, but from an at-a-glance check, I think that Proposal 7 is closest to reaching general agreement, and Logo 2015 is clearly the most opposed. In fact, Logo 2015 has so much opposition that I'd imagine people would be deeply unsatisfied if this contest failed to replace it.
Proposal 7 has only one prominent complaint against it (split wordmark), and the artist has expressed that they would be okay with either split or combined wordmark. The other complaints against Proposal 7 are vague at best ("it just doesn't feel right / have the right vibe, etc."). Heddy (talk) 03:01, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Ok! I counted how many Support Oppose and Neutral votes each proposal had (Note: This isn't the final count! People still might vote!!)
  • 2015 logo: Oppose: 10 votes Support: 4 votes Neutral: 2 votes
  • Proposal 7: Oppose: 5 votes Support: 20 votes Neutral: 2 votes
  • Proposal 8: Oppose: 8 votes Support: 11 votes Neutral: 0 votes
  • Proposal 13: Oppose: 6 votes Support: 18 votes Neutral: 4 votes
  • Proposal 14: Oppose: 6 votes Support: 12 votes Neutral: 5 votes
  • Proposal 15: Oppose: 6 votes Support: 8 votes Neutral: 3 votes
  • Well here! All the votes as of now! Oddlildude (talk)AnemoneNo1.jpg 04:10, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • It's close, but if you're right it seems like 7 and 13 have garnered quite a bit more general support than the others. If consensus is tending toward those two and away from keeping the old logo, would it be reasonable to open a discussion to weigh their advantages and drawbacks compared to one another? (not suggesting "eliminating" the other proposals, and I imagine comparing them to these two would make for a healthier discussion) Centritide. 04:50, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
      • I agree, a discussion to summarize and compare the advantages and drawbacks of 7 and 13 would be a great way to move things forward! Heddy (talk) 08:04, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Just gonna put it out there but I think 7 would work with the together logo because all the complaints are "The cut off logo looks weird" but if we put it together then it would look better and people might like it more! :-D Wouldn't it come down to the creator of the logo though? Should we see what they wanna do?? (I know they do have logo w/ Inkipedia together so it wouldn't be hard to do the adjustment!!) Proposal 7 and Proposal 13: advantages and drawbacks

This is a discussion about comparing Proposal 7 and Proposal 13.

Advantages Drawbacks Other observations
Proposal 7
  • Color scheme flexibility: several schemes have already been submitted, and it seems easy to make more.
  • Original art.
  • A fresh, minimalistic, modern design.
  • Very popular.
  • Has a unique identity while being clearly influenced by the Splatoon series.
  • References Splatoon by having a squid and an octopus.
  • Some people describe having an octopus as one of the reasons to support this logo.
  • Wordmark might be harder to read combined instead of split.
  • There are complaints about the shape of the squid and octopus.
  • I hope it's not just me not liking minimalism much in general, but I think maybe the shapes feel a bit... stiff? Like the tentacles being very straight with no line weight. My other suggestions : having the ink swirls start at the top of the head, and maybe making the eyes bigger would make them cuter? (I actually tried a very quick edit for those last two and it looks fine I think. didn't try changing the tentacles.) also I haven't really read the rest of the page so sorry if I'm repeating anything
  #6-Frisk   S Ability Bomb Sniffer.pngS2 Weapon Special Booyah Bomb.png  02:12, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I totally agree with #6-Frisk but I also think the tentacles need to be a bit thicker, too. From what I've seen every representation in the games have had tentacles on the thicker side. (Also great edit for the ink swirls) -- Brycerw11 (talk) 08:07, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • The artist has stated that if people think the combined wordmark is readable, they can use the combined wordmark version.
Proposal 13
  • Original art.
  • A fresh mix of retro and clean, modern design.
  • Very popular.
  • Has a unique identity while being clearly influenced by the Splatoon series.
  • References Splatoon with the Sunken Scroll question mark and the squid shaped bookmark.
  • References encyclopedic wikis by having a book and bookmark.
  • Polarizing: has more "strong" supporters and "strong" opposers than Proposal 7. What could cause such a polarized difference in opinion?
  • One of the other sources of polarization that I am seeing has to do with the blue / gold color scheme not feeling very fitting for Splatoon. Personally, I am a big fan of the logo itself, but I think a more aquatic color scheme like in the Round 1 proposal or a more punchy Splatoon-esque color scheme might help the logo become more widely approved. Whitmustard [TALK] 06:45, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I agree with Whitmustard that the logo itself is fine, but I would really prefer it with a more poppy color scheme. It doesn't even have to be in hand with one of the games. I think that could really help this logo be approved by more users. AgentVeemo (talk) 08:12, 27 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Agree with Whitmustard trying to bring back the Round 1 color scheme & flat colors! The gold n stuff looks cool of course, but maybe the flat colors could help feeling it more like Splatoon again...?
  #6-Frisk   S Ability Bomb Sniffer.pngS2 Weapon Special Booyah Bomb.png  02:12, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Ah yes, I have seen plenty of complaints for the logo's colors and I will see if I can make them more Splatoon-ey without being associated with a specific game (a cyan and yellow colorscheme perhaps?). I am not going back to flat colors however, as that is too drastic of a change and I'm content with the depth added by the highlights. PrincewaveSquindows95 CP TalkPage.jpgSquindows95StartButton.jpg 16:32, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • The wordmark design may be the source of this polarization: you love it or hate it. It may seem out of place in a wiki, or out of place in relation to the Splatoon series.
  • I really like the font, but I think that it is a little bit too strongly Art Deco styled for Splatoon. Maybe just changing the dots on the 'i's so they aren't at a 45 degree angle might be enough to make it more subtle  GX_64 (talk)  04:35, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Something that may help could be making the border between the white and colored parts of the wordmark more wave-like? Centritide. 20:39, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • For the wordmark, I will see how the diamond-shaped I's look as squares and circles, but I don't see how that is such a big issue, as it only slightly accentuates the art deco look, and not many other people have a problem with it from what I can tell. Regarding the wavy highlights, that wouldn't flow with the rest of the logo and it might be distracting for the viewer. PrincewaveSquindows95 CP TalkPage.jpgSquindows95StartButton.jpg 16:32, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Some comments say that Proposal 13 does not fit the Splatoon series and/or the wiki. While the logo clearly has a squid and an encyclopedic book to reference Splatoon and the wiki, some people feel that its style is not close enough to Splatoon.
  • this logo looks too... orderly. Team chaos won the "Final Fest", so that should feature in the wiki more. Octohachi (talk) 18:30, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • To achieve consensus, we need to identify what elements of Proposal 13 are the most polarizing, and see if the artist is willing and able to change these elements.
  • Per consensus check 1, Proposal 7 and Proposal 13 seem to be trending towards consensus. We should guide these logos towards consensus by comparing their advantages and drawbacks. Let's discuss solutions to any problems the logos have. Hopefully this table is a good start.
Please add to this table as needed. Heddy (talk) 03:50, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • @Princewave: there is some feedback people have left in the table above. Feel free to discuss solutions or share revised art if you have ideas on how to change your proposal to achieve consensus. Heddy (talk) 11:23, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Note: there was a brief discussion on Discord where everyone agreed that only minor changes to logos should be suggested or executed. The time for major changes has long passed, plus major changes could cause a loss of supporters which is something we should definitely avoid. Heddy (talk) 17:55, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Consensus check 2

I think it's time for a consensus check!

At this point, I think we should discuss:

  • Analyze and summarize the results.
    • Updating the count by Oddlildude, the opinions currently have been:
2015 logo: Oppose: 14 votes | Support: 6 votes | Neutral: 3 votes
Proposal 7: Oppose: 4 votes | Support: 27 votes | Neutral: 2 votes
Proposal 8: Oppose: 12 votes | Support: 11 votes | Neutral: 0 votes
Proposal 13: Oppose: 8 votes | Support: 29 votes | Neutral: 5 votes
Proposal 14: Oppose: 7 votes | Support: 21 votes | Neutral: 5 votes
Proposal 15: Oppose: 8 votes | Support: 10 votes | Neutral: 3 votes

  • Of the two trending proposals that were identified in the first consensus check, Proposal 7 and Proposal 13, how has the situation changed?
    • When compared to Consensus 1, the results are:
Oppose Support Neutral
Consensus Check 1
Proposal 7 5 20 2
Proposal 13 6 18 5
Consensus Check 2
Proposal 7 4 27 2
Proposal 13 8 29 4
With my proposal being updated just yesterday, and Proposal 13 experimenting with different color schemes, the opinions may change, but for now Proposal 13 got the lead in Support votes for this Consensus Check! | ☆ ninckvinny ☆ Talk
  • Is one proposal clearly in consensus? Remember that consensus is not a specific percentage of support, but rather a general agreement where the level of agreement is strong enough that (1) the decision would not cause an outcry, and (2) the decision would not cause requests for reversal of the decision, and (3) the decision would not harm the reputation of those who made the decision. If both 7 and 13 have both met this level of general agreement, or "consensus", then results analysis should allow us to select the better of the two.
  • To the point of consensus, for me the update to 7 has handily fixed the readability issue and I certainly would not be opposed to Proposal 7, and I think the new and improved version has been well received, pushing it closer to consensus. It is interesting that 13 has more total votes than 7 (and in every category). People seem to have a lot to say about 13! As such I'm excited to see the new colors. • I think proposal 7 might have a better chance at getting user's attention. The flashy colors and ink work mark really show "Splatoon!". My hesitation with supporting proposal 13 is due to the fact that doesn't match as well with the series. I don't mean to be rude at all! I really like proposal 13 as well, but I have to say that proposal 7 is very well designed for the Wiki. Clarinet.octo (talk) 11:18, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • After checking the proposal 7 images again, I will say that I definitely support the non-revised version. I think the lining takes away from the sleek design of the logo. That's all. Clarinet.octo (talk) 11:25, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
      • Hey @Clarinet.octo ! I definitely expected some people to oppose the revision, but I really feel like the change was for the better. For example, check readability for the non-revised logo on the mockups with a white background. The outlines will help with improving contrast and providing a stronger silhouette. Also, and this is just my opinion at this point, but I think the outlines reflect the game's style better, specially when comparing the logo to Splatoon's logo. | ☆ ninckvinny ☆ Talk 13:01, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    • @Octohachi Quantifying like that might detract from what Round 3 is about: choosing the best logo, not necessarily the most popular one. I suppose if we came to a conclusion that two logos are equally great, we could use that kind of results analysis to break a tie. Heddy (talk) 08:28, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Currently I have a preference for Proposal 13 due to the fact that at a glance, you can tell that 13 is a logo intended for something professional and informative like a Wiki, as well as maintaining clear Splatoon elements with the squid and the sea scroll. On the other hand, the revision for Proposal 7 has addressed some of the issues I had with it (which I think is a great improvement, especially for readability). However, I am waiting for a revision for 13 before I can be 100% confident in which one I prefer. Whitmustard [TALK] 16:07, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • I prefer Proposal 7, by a mile. Especially with the revised version. The squid and the octopus are obviously Splatoon-like, and I enjoy the creativity of the wordmark. Others have said that the wordmark is hard to read, but I don't find that to be the case. The colors are bright and draw your eyes in, and the yin-yang style is very sleek and pleasant to look at. I also appreciate the more symmetrical design.
    In comparison, Proposal 13:
    1. looks less like Splatoon. The only Splatoon-like thing it features is the squid shaped bookmark.
    2. has a less unique wordmark. Others have said that they dislike the style of the wordmark, and I agree. The shadow is too much for me.
    3. has much less interesting colors, opting for a more pastel pallate. It looks washed-up in comparison to Proposal 7.
    4. has a less sleek design. There's almost too much to take in, and when I look at it, I find my eyes flickering back and forth more than I'd like.
There are other problems with Proposal 13 too. The outline is a bit fuzzy, and the shading seems somehow wrong with the bright and dark colors right next to each other. The angles of the book's pages and the dashes are awkward as well. Plus, the outline clips into the drawing enough that it's uncomfortable. I won't sugarcoat it--the more I look at Proposal 13, the more I want to look away, and that isn't great. I can very much tell that a lot of effort went into both of these logos, and I'm sorry to have to choose one. But Proposal 7 a significantly better option in my eyes. • I've been thinking about the proposal 7 logo, and revisiting the revision. I've come to like the newer revision, and I do agree that the lining of the words is much like the squid icon lining. I also agree with the reply above that proposal 7 is a more obvious choice for the Wiki. I have no intent in hurting any feeling's, so please don't take my opinion personally. Oppose 12 2 13 2 5 7
    Strong oppose 0 1 0 6 0 1
    Total votes 24 37 24 45 36 23
    • I did some math and right now Logo 2015 has -32 points (points being, support points or something?), Proposal 7 has 92 points, Proposal 8 has -2 points, Proposal 13 has 82 points (which is less than Proposal 7 despite having more supporters), Proposal 14 has 78 points, and Proposal 15 has exactly 0 points. Here's my scoring system: Each strong support is worth 5 points, each support is worth 3 points, and each weak support is worth 1 point. Each strong oppose is worth -5 points, each oppose is worth -3 points, and each weak oppose is worth -1 points. Neutral votes are worth nothing. I multiplied the point values for each level of support/oppose by the number of people with those votes and then added them all together for the total. So far, Proposal 7 is in the lead, followed closely by Proposal 13. And after them is Proposal 14 with 78 points and Proposal 15 with 0 points. The current logo from 2015 is trailing with -32 points, so it's clear we aren't going to be keeping the current logo. Avery_TSP (conversing) 16:12, 14 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
      • While analyzing the distribution of support levels can be helpful, I worry that collapsing the table into a single statistic could be questionable. The multipliers chosen are inherently arbitrary — why is "support" worth exactly 5 times as much as "weak support?" As you noted, 13 has more supporters and fewer points than 7, due to stronger opposition. But number of supporters, intensity of support, and level of opposition are all separate factors and imo should be weighed separately. It looks like you put some effort into your system and adding it all up — I totally get the excitement, but I don't think a single statistic is needed just yet as we're determining whether the proposals have reached consensus or not.Centritide 07:45, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • I have another concern about counting votes. A lot of the existing votes are not for the latest versions of the logos. Should we create a new section for voting/commenting for the current revisions after Princewave uploads the mockups with the green Proposal 13? Also, I feel like this page is getting really long and difficult to navigate. I am thinking that making the discussion sections below the proposals collapsible might help. I also think that maybe we could create a section with just the logos and mockups so they are easy to find.  GX_64 (talk)  08:45, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Those are such minor changes to the same concept that entirely new voting/commenting shouldn't be necessary. Regarding navigation, I would prefer to collapse each proposal section so that we can shift focus to newer discussion sections. You can use the table of contents to jump to a section without having to scroll. Heddy (talk) 22:18, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Centride--I didn't think of this while doing the calculations, and you definitely have a good point. It was a bit confusing for me to figure out the table because some proposals had significantly more votes than others, and that meant they had both more supporters and more opposers. I created this statistic sort of as a way for me and whoever else wants to use it to keep track of the current standings better than we could with the table, but looking back, I agree with you that I might have gone overboard with the calculations and it's definitely flawed. I'm sorry. I might do more adding things up later, just for myself or if anyone requests. Avery_TSP (conversing) 16:13, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • GX 64--I definitely agree with you that this page is getting very hard to navigate. You have some very good ideas with the new sections for the new revisions. For the section with just the logos and mockups, I think we should take what's already on the Round 3 page (the main page, not the talk page that we're on right now) and move it to the top of this page along with mockups, if people think that's what we should do. Avery_TSP (conversing) 16:13, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Consensus check 3

I think it's time to make the judgement call - which proposal wins?

The Round 3 description page says, "Eventually, opinion will gravitate towards a single logo". I believe that has happened:

    • In consensus check 2, when asked to discuss if logos had achieved consensus and further which logo is best, nearly every comment favored Proposal 7, with very little discussion of other proposals in that entire discussion.
    • Proposal 7 has the best ratio of supporters to opposers, indicating that it has the best support overall.
    • If I take the time to read the arguments against Proposal 7, I see that most criticisms have been addressed by promised improvements to the logo. The same can't be said for the other logo proposals, as many criticisms against them cannot be addressed without making them entirely different logos. The fact that Proposal 7's criticisms were so easily and quickly addressed without significant changes says a lot about its quality as a logo.
    • The artist of Proposal 7 is very active and willing to ensure that they deliver the best possible logo to Inkipedia. This is especially a good thing post-contest, if further changes to the logo are needed.
    • Everyone seems to agree that easily changeable colors are something that the Inkipedia logo should have, and Proposal 7 is clearly the best at that. None of the other logos are as easy to modify with new color schemes. When you consider that one fact, it's hard to imagine selecting any of the other logos as the winner of the contest.

So, I think Proposal 7 should be the winner and I assert that Proposal 7 brings the contest to a natural consensus, with the least likelihood of causing an outcry or demands for a reversal of the decision. No other logo has as good a chance of consensus as Proposal 7. The purpose of this consensus check discussion is to confirm that. Do you agree that we have reached a consensus? Please share your arguments. Remember that anyone can open a consensus check or other discussion section for any reason. Heddy (talk) 23:32, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    • I'm very fine with seven tbh! the only small change I see myself ask for would be the ink swirls start at the top of the head like I tried in my edit the other time (no need for the huge eyes) but I'd probs also be fine with just the logo as it is now

    • I agree. Proposal 7 for consensus! Avery_TSP (conversing) 01:28, 18 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • I am happy with Proposal 7. I think it make sense to choose it over Proposal 13 since 13 has more strong opposes and opposes. I saw that ninck mentioned on Discord that Proposal 14 was getting a lot of support recently. I mostly like Proposal 14, but I don't really like the grey squid. I think it is because the squid should be the thing that gets focused on, but then it sort of goes into the background a bit because it is less bright than the parts surrounding it, causing the logo to be slightly confusing to look at. I agree that it seems like Proposal 7 is the most likely to be agreed on, but I think we should wait a few days to make sure.  GX_64 (talk)  01:38, 18 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Although my personal first-choice vote goes to Proposal 13, I am more than happy for Proposal 7 to win! The addition of the unified wordmark, larger eyes, and outline basically addresses all the problems I had with it right at the start, and the customisability is brilliant! The only issue I have is the shape of the P, personally. Still, it would be great to see this (or 13) used on the site. Well done, everyone involved! • Proposal 7 is very unreadable at small resolutions to me, and the non-standard use of mixed small caps and lowercase – and bright, neon colors – don't help. I honestly think 13 is a much, much stronger design, more clever in its conception and better executed. Just looks a lot more professional, is inventive in what it represents, etc. Why not allow users to toggle which one they want to use in their MediaWiki/site settings? –Eli (talk) 23:52, 19 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • User can modify their personal CSS to select the logo they want to see. Having a toggle probably isn't the best solution therefore. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 08:37, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
