Pearl

Main article: Pearl

Pearl of Off the Hook fame is both a vocalist and producer for the band.[1] After experiencing what it was like to play with a live band at Haicalive at Tokaigi 2018 and Tentalive at Tokaigi 2019, Pearl had started to feel unfulfilled performing with Off the Hook so she separated from Marina for a time.[2] During her absence, Pearl had scouted out unknown internet artists Vinny Mack, Garris, and John Goose to form the Damp Socks portion of Damp Socks feat. Off the Hook. Afterwards, Pearl got back in contact with Marina, and the five of them went on a world tour.[3] The outfit that Pearl wears is made out of valuable materials firm enough to withstand the vacuum of space; the total cost of this suit was around 200 million geso.[4] While on tour, the frequencies emitted from Pearl's singing voice doubled the amount of fish caught at a port town that the band performed at.[2]

Marina

Main article: Marina

Marina, also of Off the Hook fame, is a vocalist and pianist for the band.[2] While Pearl was not content with Off the Hook, Marina was happy as long as she could play music with her. Once Pearl had left without warning, Marina became anxious, but pushed her fears aside once Pearl had messaged her about finding Damp Socks.[3] With this new band, Marina wanted to change up her main style of performing, by adding more rapping and piano playing into the band's songs. She also kept herself busy during the world tour by putting herself in charge of coordinating the overall direction, booking venues, developing a ticket sales systems, and lunch box preparation, as well as developing a prototype VR world called the Memverse.[4]

Vinny Mack

Vinny Mack is the band's guitarist. Fast on their feet, Vinny Mack was a member of a track and field team but retired due to an injury. Not knowing what to do with their spare time, they started playing the guitar. A video they uploaded online of themself practicing their superb technique became a hot topic and caught the attention of Pearl.[2]

Garris

Garris is the band's drummer. They're from a small island off the coast of the Splatlands. They are also a traditional taiko drummer, and their natural sense of rhythm and powerful performances are their strong suits. Pearl scouted Garris out after happening to come across a video they uploaded for fun, called "I used 8 arms and 16 different percussion instruments to try to play the Calamari Inkantation." They also like to take long baths.[2]

John Goose

John Goose is the band's bassist. They're a performer who works more behind the scenes. Despite having outstanding skills, they are not out in the public eye and rather has been active as a studio musician. John has played on many albums by famous artists both nationally and abroad. They joined the band after Pearl, whom they met at the studio, pulled them out. Their hobby is to watch the insects that are attracted to the light on their head.[2]

Quotes

While out on their world tour, hit pop duo Off the Hook reeled in some salty new talent to form Damp Socks. With their fresh, driving tempos and subtle shifts in tone, these unnamed youths synergize perfectly with Pearl and Marina's passionate vocals.
Splatoon Base[1]
Pearl started out just wanting to produce, until she realized: "I can't sit back and watch this band. I gotta be in it!" The new collab seems to have brought out her mentoring side—she's been doling out more vocals to Marina than usual and trusting the young talent to shine on their own without telling them what to do.

Trivia

  • Despite the band's name being changed to Damp Socks in international versions, the NQSK-BVOTH poster's name still uses an acronym for "Busy Vacation", with only Off the Hook's acronym being translated.
  • Like Off the Hook, the band's song names in Japanese have an interpunct between each word. Unlike Off the Hook, whose song names are exclusively transliterated English except for Suffer No Fools and the parts in parentheses in Ebb & Flow (Octo) and Ebb & Flow (Out of Order), Damp Socks uses Japanese written in katakana.
