Octoballer
Species | Octarian |
Eye color | Blue with green sclera |
Location | Octo Canyon, Deepsea Metro, Alterna |
- Not to be confused with Octoball.
Octoballers are Octarian enemies found in Octo Canyon, the Octo Expansion, and Return of the Mammalians.
Description
Octoballers are large bowling balls with an Octotrooper inside one of the finger holes. They roll until colliding with anything solid (including the player), at which point they explode in ink. Most Octoballers leave behind a trail of ink as they roll. They can be splatted by attacking the Octarian inside with ink or hitting them with an active Gusher, Ink Cannon, or Splashdown; inking the bowling ball part with anything other than a Gusher, Ink Cannon, or Splashdown has no effect. The Octarian inside the ball ducks its head inside its hole whenever it nears the ground, making it briefly invincible to most attacks until it pokes its head back out when no longer near the ground. They are usually fired from launchers that indefinitely produce Octoballers that roll in a straight line from where they were launched; most of these launchers come in pairs side-by-side that alternate between the left and right launchers firing Octoballers. When deploying an Octoballer, the launcher first produces the ball and makes noise before the Octarian pops its head out of the ball, then the ball starts rolling. The balls are adorned with an emblem on the side, which looks like a circle of arrows pointing to the center of the side of the ball. There also exists a giant version of the Octoballer known as a Kingpin Octoballer, which only appears in Octo Canyon. Kingpin Octoballers move more slowly and hold two Octotroopers inside of a glass cockpit replacing the holes, and can only be splatted by pushing them off the stage with an extending platform or by shooting the cockpit with an Ink Cannon to hit the Octarians inside. When splatted, Octoballers give no Power Eggs unless they are the less common gold Octoballers, which give ten, or Kingpin Octoballers, which give twenty.
