Liquid Sunshine is a song performed by the Squid Sisters and Ian BGM that appears during Splatfests in Splatoon 3. It is one of five songs that can play during the first two minutes of Splatfest battles, added into rotation during Fresh Season 2023 and first playing in the Nessie vs. Aliens vs. Bigfoot Splatfest.

Description

Liquid Sunshine is an upbeat Shibuya-kei song with elements of chiptune. The song starts with an instrumental opening, followed by solo vocal verses by Callie, Marie, and Ian BGM respectively, though Callie harmonizes with Marie for the last phrase of Marie's verse. The pre-chorus features mixed singing by Callie and Marie. During the first half of the chorus, Callie and Marie each sing a verse, with Callie singing together with Marie during the last phrase. The second half of the chorus features mixed singing, first by Callie and Ian BGM, then by Marie and Ian BGM, followed by all three singing together, and then just Callie and Marie. Finally, a transitional bridge, which includes Callie and Marie chanting together, brings the song back to the start for looping.

Lyrics

Both the Japanese music video and the booklet included with Splatune 3 give the official lyrics for Liquid Sunshine. The lyrics are nonsensical; the Japanese hiragana and katakana simply give the pronunciation. The English music video published by Nintendo of America gives the official romanized lyrics, which contain several differences to the original Japanese version.

Remixes and covers

Liquid Sunshine (Grand Festival)

During days one and two of Past vs. Present vs. Future Splatfest, an extended live band version of Liquid Sunshine is played. Unlike the regular version, the song is sung by Squid Sisters only and Ian BGM is not present, as he is with the rest of Deep Cut on a different stage. As such, Ian BGM's first solo part is replaced with unique lines sung by both Squid Sisters, and he is entirely missing in the second verse. Accordingly, this version of the song is credited only to "Squid Sisters" rather than "Squid Sisters feat. Ian BGM".

Music video

The music video for Liquid Sunshine was released on 29 March 2023, days before the start of the Nessie vs. Aliens vs. Bigfoot Splatfest. The music video showcases a Tricolor Turf War on MakoMart, with the players using weapon kits introduced during Fresh Season 2023. The Japanese version features karaoke lyrics in kana. Lyrics sung by Callie and Marie are written in hiragana, while lyrics sung by Ian BGM are written in katakana, except when singing with others where hiragana is used.

On 31 March 2023, Nintendo of America uploaded the English version with karaoke lyrics.
