This is a list of characters in the Splatoon and Splatoon 3: Splatlands mangas.
Some of the characters' current English names are from fan translations. The official English translations from VIZ Media are used when available.

Protagonists
Team Blue
- Main article: Team Blue
A group of low-level, described to be idiotic Inklings who are the main protagonists of the manga. They use a blue ink color. This team consists of four members:

She is said to be a class representative, indicating that she attends school, from Chapter 7 of the Splatoon 2 manga. She is also seen to be good friends with Bamboo as she only joined back with Rider if Bamboo would join as well. |

Defeated by the Blue Team in Issue 4 by Idiotic Synchronization Power. All members, except Aloha, wear the same clothing, the Logo Aloha Shirt.

- Aloha, one of the S4. A male Inkling who wears the Golf Visor, Aloha Shirt, and Crazy Arrows. He uses the .52 Gal.[1]
- Debuted as a cameo in Issue 2 and made his first major appearance in Issue 3 (as Jungle Hat, revealed at the end).
- In the Splatoon 2 manga, he uses the "Hipster" hairstyle.
- According to his Topics:
- He is a good surfer, despite not being able to swim.
- He knows all the addresses of his partying friends.
- During his match against Team Blueperor, he uses the Kensa .52 Gal.
- Snorkel (Scuba-kun in Japanese). A male Inkling who wears the Snorkel Mask and White Seahorses. He uses the H-3 Nozzlenose.[1]
- Octoglasses. A female Inkling who wears the Octoglasses and Strapping Reds. She uses the Berry Splattershot Pro.[1]
- Straw (Wheat-chan in Japanese). A female Inkling who wears the Straw Boater and Cherry Kicks. She uses the Krak-On Splat Roller.[1]
- They always upload pictures of their parties to the Internet.
Team Cyan

- Mask, one of the S4. A male Inkling, who wears the Gas Mask, Purple Camo LS, and Green Rain Boots. He uses the Carbon Roller Deco.[2]
- Debuted in Issue 4. The rest of his team first appeared in Issue 6.
- It is said by the Squid Sisters that he can take anyone down without even "swinging his weapon".
- Wears the Gas Mask as protection against hay fever.
- Not the same as Mask from the Yellow team.
- In the Splatoon 2 manga, as with Army, Mask wears drawstring cargo pants with his original outfit.
- Designer Headphones. A male Inkling who wears the Designer Headphones, Green-Check Shirt, and Black Trainers. He uses the Tri-Slosher.[2]
- Full Moon Glasses. A female Inkling who wears the Full Moon Glasses, Squidmark Sweat, and Punk Yellows. She uses the Luna Blaster.[2]
- Jersey. A female Inkling who wears the Sun Visor, School Jersey, and Blue Lo-Tops. She uses the N-ZAP '89.[2]
- They get together outside practice often to play games or read comics.
Team Purple

The first team to beat Team Blue in a match but were later defeated in a rematch.

- Skull, One of the S4. A male Inkling, who wears the Skull Bandana, Octo Tee, and Gold Hi-Horses. He uses the Custom E-liter 3K Scope, but during his battle against Team Emperor, he wields the E-liter 4K Scope.
- Does not have any eyebrows.
- Likes to eat sweet things.
- A friend of Aviators from childhood.
- Used to be on a team with Vintage.
- Aviators. A male Inkling who wears the 18K Aviators, Squid Satin Jacket, and Choco Clogs. He uses the L-3 Nozzlenose.[2]
- A friend of Skull from childhood.
- Stitch (Squid-Stitch-chan in Japanese). A female Inkling who wears the Squid-Stitch Cap, White LS, and Squink Wingtips. She uses the Sploosh-o-matic 7.[2]
- Paisley (Paisly-chan in Japanese). A female Inkling who wears the Paisley Bandana, Herbivore Tee, and Red Slip-Ons. She uses the Aerospray RG.[2]
- Do not talk among themselves but seem to get along well.

Team Green

They are a supporting team of Rank B Inklings.
- Backwards Cap. A male Inkling who wears the Backwards Cap, Varsity Jacket, and Hunter Hi-Tops. He uses the Sloshing Machine.[1]
- Attempted to use his Sloshing Machine to wash his clothes and got them ink stained. He has hated it when people call his Sloshing Machine a "washing machine" ever since.
- Jungle. A male Inkling who wears the Jungle Hat, Olive Ski Jacket, and Strapping Whites. He uses the .52 Gal.[1]
- Beanie. A female Inkling who wears the Short Beanie, Gray Vector Tee, and Red Hi-Horses. She uses the Aerospray MG.[1]
- Cleats. A female Inkling who wears the White Headband, Part-Time Pirate, and Soccer Cleats. She uses the Inkbrush Nouveau.[1]
- After battling the Blue Team, they had a rule: always check for impersonators before battling, due to Aloha's impersonation of Jungle.
Team Yellow

- Paintball Mask. A male Inkling, who wears the Paintball Mask, Camo Layered LS, and Moto Boots. He uses the Blaster.[1]
- Good at helping around the house.
- Gas Mask. A male Inkling who wears the Gas Mask, Gray College Sweat, and Blue Slip-Ons. He uses the Splattershot.[1]
- Not the same as Mask from Cyan Team.
- Olive. A female Inkling who wears the Fake Contacts, Olive Ski Jacket, and Pro Trail Boots. She uses the .52 Gal.[1]
- Tako (Takoroka-chan in Japanese). A female Inkling who wears the Takoroka Mesh, Black Squideye, and Orange Arrows. She uses the Splattershot Jr.[1]

Team Dark Green

- Bike Helmet. A male Inkling, who wears the Bike Helmet, Striped Peaks LS, and Black Seahorses. He uses the Custom Blaster.[2]

- Skate. A male Inkling who wears the Skate Helmet, Rainy-Day Tee, and Cream Hi-Tops. He uses the Rapid Blaster.[2]
- A team of four siblings. Bike Helmet is the oldest, followed by Stripe, then Shrimp, and finally Skate Helmet.
- They all use blaster-type weapons.
- They make each other cakes on their birthdays that look bad but taste delicious.
- Skate's helmet was a hand-me-down from his older brother.

Team Gloves

A major team of neon green Inklings who had plans to practice in the mountains after being inspired by Gloves' trip but takes too long to get in the campgrounds.
- Gloves, a male Inkling with the "Slick" hairstyle who wears the Squidfin Hook Cans, Black V-Neck Tee, Yellow-Mesh Sneakers, and loose shorts with leggings. His main weapon is the Splat Dualies. He debuted in the first issue of this era.
- According to his topic:
- It apparently takes an hour to set his hair.
- Every morning he appears to be striking a cool pose in front of the mirror.

- Straps, a female Inkling with the "Wave" hairstyle who wears the Takoroka Visor, Navy King Tank, Neon Delta Straps and tight capri sweatpants. Her main weapon is the Splat Roller. She, along with Clip and Half-Rim, debuted in the third issue of this era.
- Clip-ons (Clip-chan in Japanese), a female Inkling with the "Haircut" tentacle hairstyle who wears the Squid Clip-Ons, Octobowler Shirt and Cyan Dakroniks. According to her bio, her main weapon is the Splattershot, but she uses the Dualie Squelchers in the fight against Blue Team. She, along with Straps and Half-Rim, debuted in the third issue of this era.
- Half-Rim, a male Inkling with the "Hipster" hairstyle who wears the Half-Rim Glasses, Pink Easy-Stripe Shirt, Shark Moccasins, and drawstring cargo pants. His main weapon is the Splatterscope. He, along with Straps and Clip, debuted in the third issue of this era.
Team Eight

A group of magenta Octolings who first debuted in the Octo Expansion portion of the manga. They recently developed an interest in music bands. They do not use their real names, even Eight when he restored his memories. They prefer using the ones Goggles named them.

- Eight (Hachi in Japanese, which also means 'eight'), a male Octoling with the "Punk" hairstyle. He is referred to as Agent 8 by Cap'n Cuttlefish. He wears the Squidlife Headphones, the Agent 8 clothing and the Null Boots Replica. After his team escapes to Inkopolis, he wears the Squidlife Headphones, Red Cuttlegear LS, Suede Gray Lace-Ups, and denim shorts. His main weapon is the Blaster. He first appears at the end of Issue 14 from the Square King Cup arc. He is seen by Cap'n Cuttlefish that he was listening to the Squid Sisters' album through his headphones and is shown as having a hand in creating weapons as he makes a Splattershot for Goggles to use.
- According to his topic: Thanks to Goggles and Cap'n Cuttlefish's influence, he has started to pickle things.
- Seven (Nana in Japanese, which also means 'seven'), an Octoling Girl with the "Tentacurl" hairstyle. She wears the Agent 8 clothing and shoes but wears the Black FishFry Bandana, Annaki Drive Tee, and Punk Cherries after her team escapes to Inkopolis, and she wields the Octo Shot Replica (though she wielded the real one during the events of the Octo Expansion). She first appears in Chapter 24 briefly. It was revealed in Chapter 26 that she was Eight's teammate who got captured by the Kamabo Corporation and has not been freed ever since. She is one of Eight's teammates.
- Ponytail (Pony in Japanese), an Octoling Girl with has the "Pony" hairstyle. She wears the Agent 8 clothing and shoes but wears the FishFry Visor, Squid Squad Band Tee, Red Hi-Tops, and a skirt with black shorts after her team escapes to Inkopolis, and her main weapon is the Dualie Squelchers. She is one of Eight's teammates.
- Burns (Afro in Japanese), an Octoling Boy with the "Afro" hairstyle. He wears the Agent 8 clothing and shoes, but wears the Tennis Headband, Dakro Golden Tee, and N-Pacer Aus after his team escapes to Inkopolis, and his main weapon is the Krak-On Splat Roller. He is one of Eight's teammates.

Antagonists
Team Emperor
- Main article: Team Emperor
A group of Inklings with sun yellow ink. All members wear the same gear except shoes, with Emperor and Prinz also wearing the shoes from this set. The gear is the following: the Eminence Cuff, Milky Eminence Jacket and Milky Enperrials. After appearing in the manga, this set was released in Splatoon 2 on 15 December 2017. They are considered the main antagonists of this era and are considered god-like (being able to get 99.9% in Turf War), even beating the entire S4 playing as one team. The parents of the members have known each other long ago and their team practice begins with all members naturally gathering around Emperor, without him having to say a word.
- Tactic: Emperor's Road (王道 / エンペラー ロード Ōdō / enperā rōdo)

- Emperor, a male Inkling who sports a custom hairstyle similar to the "Hipster" hairstyle with his tentacles swept to the side and leggings. His main weapon is the Enperry Splat Dualies. He first appears as a silhouette in the second issue of this era, and later fully appears in the third issue. He is also known as "The Emperor".
- According to his topics:
- He appears to have come from a rich family.
- He seems to be having fun discovering new things outside of battle recently.
- For the duration of the Square King Ranked Cup arc, he joins as a member of Team Blue, replacing Specs for a while and renaming the team to Team Blueperor. His clothing is the Black Velour Octoking Tee while the rest remains the same.
- In Chapter 40, he adds the Retro Specs for the secondary headgear.

- Prinz, a male Inkling with a custom hairstyle similar to the "Slick" hairstyle with one side-swept tentacle. His main weapon is the Enperry Splat Dualies. He, along with N-Pacer and Squidkid Jr., first appeared in the third issue of this era. He is Emperor's younger brother.
- According to his topic: He displays things he receives and treats them with care.
- When Emperor joins as a member of Team Blue for a while, he is the current leader of Team Emperor, renaming it to Team New Emperor/New-Peror.

- Squidkid Jr. (Eging Jr. in Japanese), a dark-skinned male Inkling with the "Buzz-Cut" hairstyle. He wears the Red & Black Squidkid IVs. His main weapon is the Clash Blaster. He, along with Prinz and N-Pacer, first appeared in the third issue of this era. He is described as the "son of a star player". His name comes from a type of fishing lure for squids, which originally inspired his unused custom hairstyle.[3]
- According to his topic: He gave Prinz a pair of his favorite shoes but can't quite get him to wear them.
- Main article: N-Pacer
- N-Pacer, a female Inkling with the "Double-Bun" hairstyle. She wears the N-Pacer Ags. Her main weapon is the Splatterscope. She, along with Prinz and Squidkid Jr., first appeared in the third issue of this era. She is described as the "cool female knight" in the seventh issue.
- According to her topic: She likes listening to her teammates' conversations while drinking black tea.
- Main article: Laceless
- Laceless, A male Inkling with the "Top Knot" hairstyle who temporarily replaces Emperor for a while. He wears the White Laceless Dakroniks. His main weapon is the Splash-o-matic.
- According to his topics: The son of a gardener at Emperor's household. An acquaintance of Emperor and his brother, and of course, Jr. and N-Pacer.
- He was called out by Prinz when Prinz himself saw him practicing, thus forming Team New Emperor/New-Peror.
Team X-Blood

A group of light blue Rank X Inklings that first appeared as silhouettes in Chapter 29. They have a major role as the main antagonists in the Square King Ranked Cup arc.
- Tactic: X-Fall
- Main article: Vintage
- Vintage, a male Inkling with the "Mush-Cut" hairstyle who wears the Fake Contacts, Takoroka Nylon Vintage and Orca Hi-Tops. His weapon is the Ballpoint Splatling. His detailed appearance is first seen in Chapter 31.
- He seems to possess an ability of his own: the X-Zone.
- Main article: Double Egg
- Double Egg, A male Inkling with the "Spiky-Haired" hairstyle who wears the Double Egg Shades, Custom Painted F-3 and Amber Sea Slug Hi-Tops. His weapon is the Light Tetra Dualies. His detailed appearance is first seen in Chapter 30.

- Omega, A female Inkling with the "Banger" hairstyle who wears the Fake Contacts, ω-3 Tee, and Toni Kensa Black Hi-Tops. Her weapon is the Nautilus 47. Her detailed appearance is first seen in Chapter 31.
- She possesses the X-Zone ability, just like Vintage.

- Red-Soled (Red Sole in Japanese), A female Inkling with the "Pigtail" hairstyle who wears the Squid Clip-Ons, Annaki Blue Cuff and Navy Red-Soled Wingtips. Her weapon is the Bloblobber. Her detailed appearance is first seen in Chapter 30.
Fishskull/Fierce's Team
- Main article: Guardians
A group of two yellow Inklings and an Octoling who are the antagonists of Sheldon's Adventure. They serve as the guardians of Sheldon's grandfather's treasure and test Goggles and Sheldon via one-on-one turf wars. Also, a fourth one, Hivemind, announced the Final Fest Splatfest in the manga.

- Fierce Fishskull, a male Inkling with the "Spiky-Haired" hairstyle who wears the Fierce Fishskull, Octoking HK Jersey, and Friendship Bracelet. His weapon is the Aerospray PG.
- He buys sweets for Jet and Justice whenever he goes into town.
- He is very athletic, using brute force to prevent himself from flying up while using a Booyah Bomb.

- Jetflame Crest, A female Inkling with the "Haircut" tentacle hairstyle who wears the Jetflame Crest, Annaki Evolution Tee, and Sunny Climbing Shoes. Her weapons are the Dark Tetra Dualies.
- She gets up early every morning for solo training.
- She loves festivals and celebrations.
- Like Fierce Fishskull, she is extremely athletic, jumping higher and using Splashdown stronger than most Inklings.

- Eye of Justice, A male Octoling with an "Afro" hairstyle who wears the Eye of Justice, Silver Tentatek Vest, and Annaki Arachno Boots. His weapon is the Neo Sploosh-o-matic.
- He does maintenance on cannons and alike.
- Jet combs his hair sometimes, and he seems to like it.
- Main article: Hivemind
- Hivemind, A male Inkling with the "Top Knot" hairstyle who wears the Hivemind Antenna, Front Zip Vest, and Navy Enperrials. His weapon is the Kensa Charger.
- In the Final Fest Splatfest, he uses his antenna to create radio waves 'Enforcing Order' on his allies.
- He has a unique ability; it is currently known as "Hivemind Time".
Shadows
- Main article: Shadow Inkling
Shadows are copies of Inklings (and presumably Octolings, though there is no confirmation on Shadow Octolings) that are made of energy. They appear from the monitors of Deca Tower in Inkopolis Square and describe themselves as "radio wave energy amplified by the passion of battles". Though they all are virtually identical from their original Inkling counterparts, there are numerous differences, including:
- Having a permanent dark-gray ink color
- Having a lightning-shaped marking on their forehead (except for Shadow Mask, whose lightning marking is on the forehead of the mask)
- Being monochrome except for the lightning-shaped marking and their eye color (both of which are a light-yellow color)
- Having a personality opposite to that of their original counterpart
- Ability to use radio waves to cause the legs of Inklings to tingle, causing them to be unable to move their legs (this ability is barely shown in the manga and may only affect those who lose against their respective Shadows in battle)
- Ability to spectate matches from inside the Deca Tower (Team Shadow Blue is seen watching the Team Blue vs. Gloves match on the Reef in a flashback)
- Inability to stay outside of the Deca Tower for prolonged periods of time due to running out of energy, they seem to recharge energy via allowing normal Inklings to battle.
Apart from these differences, the Shadows and original Inkling counterparts are exactly the same, including skill-wise, with both having the same abilities.
Team Shadow Blue
A Team of Shadow Inklings that are copies of Team Blue. They initiate the "Shadow Arc" by kidnapping Li'l Judd and threatening to take over Inkopolis Square. It seems like the Shadows like to chat with each other.
- Shadow Goggles, A male Shadow Inkling with the "Top Knot" hairstyle who wears the Pilot Goggles, Lemon Mountain Coat, and Hero Runner Replicas. His weapon is the Splattershot. His personality is "Smart".
- He is the only Shadow that is seen using radio waves to cause the legs of Inklings to tingle.
- He seems happy that he was able to enjoy turf war with his shadow friends.
- He likes bread with jam.
- Shadow Specs, A male Shadow Inkling with the "Top Knot" hairstyle who wears the Retro Specs, Baby-Jelly Shirt & Tie, and Smoky Wingtips. His weapon is the Inkbrush Nouveau. His personality is "Super Idiot".
- Unlike the other Shadows, there are actually numerous types of Shadow Specs, the main distinguishing feature between them are their eyes, Shadow Specs 1's eyes are slanted downward, Shadow Specs 2's eyes are slanted upward, Shadow Specs 3's eyes are small and circular, and Shadow Specs 4's eyes are horizontal and thin (despite the Inkling Almanac stating that there are 4 types of Shadow Specs, the Inkling Almanac also says there is a fifth one, known as "Super Idiot Specs". The eyes of "Super Idiot Specs" are very similar to Shadow Specs 4's eyes, being slightly less thin.)
- Shadow Headphones, a female Shadow Inkling with the "Hippie" hairstyle who wears the Studio Headphones, Slash King Tank, and Red Hi-Horses. Her weapon is the Splat Charger. Her personality is "Tight/Strict".
- Shadow Bobble Hat, a female Shadow Inkling with the "Haircut" hairstyle who wears the Bobble Hat, Gray Hoodie, and Purple Sea Slugs. Her weapon is the Slosher. Her personality is "Angry".
- Just like her Original counterpart, she doesn't open her eyes or stop smiling.
Shadow Supreme King Team

New characters in the Splatoon 3 era
Although gender and species are collectively referred to as 'styles' in the game version of Splatoon 3, the honorifics '-kun' and '-chan' are still used for the named characters to refer to their genders in the manga in Japanese.

- Braid, a female light yellow Inkling with the "Megalobraid" hairstyle, "Classic" feminine legwear and "Slit" feminine eyebrows who wears the Fake Contacts, Tri-Shred Tee, and Force ReBoots. Braid temporarily wore the Lo-Vis Visor. Her main weapon is the Tri-Stringer. She debuts in the bonus chapter of Volume 16, albeit her appearance is mostly covered by a hooded cape, shades and facemask, similar to how the player character looks at the beginning of Splatoon 3. Aside from the Force ReBoots, her unhooded appearance was not revealed until the Special Preview of Chapter 66, while her name was not revealed until the full release of Chapter 66.
- Despite looking forward to days of Turf Wars and rumors circulating about her skill claiming that she was one of Splatsville's top 8 battlers, Braid never participated in real battles until the events of Chapter 66 and practiced entirely on her own. She is an anxious and especially shy Inkling whenever battles are brought up. When she expresses those traits, she makes an awkward smile while trembling. She acts as an unofficial member of the Blue Team and lends Goggles gear.

Trivia
- Most characters are named by a piece of their gear, mostly headgear. The honorific '-kun' or '-chan' at the end of their names are added in Japanese.
- Some of these, like Rider, are named after their clothing and others, like Cleats, are named after their shoes.
- As shown in a CoroCoro video about Splatoon Volume 1, the author, Sankichi Hinodeya drew the mascot, Goggles, in squid ink.
- All teams in the first Splatoon era of the manga consist of two male Inklings and two female Inklings, with the captain always being male, and the bios for each team, except Dark Green Team, list them in the order 'male, male, female, female'.
- The Inklings' and Octolings' eye color are based on their current ink color, such as Gloves having green eyes when he has green ink, while he is seen with blue eyes during the Salmon Run session, where he had blue ink.
- Octophones is an exception as he is one of the few characters whose eye color does not match their ink color. His ink color being indigo while having red eyes.
- Some Inklings are not named after what they are wearing, such as Prinz and Emperor.
