Nintendo Today! is an application for iOS and Android smart devices. It is a Nintendo-themed news channel that functions like a daily calendar, presenting information about events, games and characters.
Official Nintendo posts are published in the app containing exclusive promotional materials; users are able to react to each post with the options "Useful", "Funny", "Cool" and "Cute". Users are not able to comment or submit their own posts. The application is available via the use of a Nintendo Account. A Nintendo Switch Online subscription is not required.
Release history
Nintendo Today! was announced on the 27 March 2025 Nintendo Direct presentation and released later the same day.
Splatoon-themed content
Nintendo Today! features a Splatoon-themed design among other flagship Nintendo brand themed designs; the home menu including the calendar and settings take on a format reminiscent of the menu in Splatoon 3. The daily calendar animation features a set of Splatoon 3 video clips consisting of animated artwork and in-game Inklings, Octolings, or other characters performing emotes or other in-game animations.
Choosing "Splatoon" as one of the user's favorite game series will add Splatoon-related news to the calendar while adding "Splatoon 3" to the in-game events list; the app will mark events like Splatfests to the calendar. The application offers a home screen widget, which adapts to the chosen theme.
Posts
Five types of posts are posted in the application's Splatoon category:
- "In the Studio", showcasing recordings of the real-life musicians behind Splatoon tracks, recording in-studio.
- "Artworks Archive", showcasing previously-seen promotional artwork.
- "Splatoon Live Performance - Solo Clip", showcasing individual, high quality recordings of idol choreography as seen in previous live performances.
- "The Age-Old war between Inklings and Octarians", sharing the storyline of the Splatoon series as is written on Splatoon Base.
- "Splatfest Recap", reviews of past Splatfests, including the theme name, the question, the team names, the dates and time of the event, the percentage results, the points, and the result. It may also provide new names in languages that did not receive localized names when the Splatfest occurred, such as Brazilian Portuguese.
Splatoon posts made on the application are easiest to access via enabling the Splatoon theme. Users may navigate between posts in each of the three categories via the three dot menu on the left-hand side, which offers "previous" and "next" buttons as soon as the user's application has been updated to feature another set of posts in a category.
One new set of posts seems to release per day, though rollout does not appear to be consistent between all users.
