Splatlands Third Junior High School Anthem (Record of a Graduation Ceremony)
The recording begins with a school bell chime, seemingly echoing within a school auditorium hall. An unknown, older-sounding voice briefly speaks into a microphone, followed by a piano tune. The melody is accompanied by a choir of students' brisk singing of a school anthem. Shiver, Frye and Big Man's voices can be distinctly heard among the choir. Between verses an argument breaks out among students, leading to some degree of striking one another. This escalates to the point punching sound effects are heard, as if a fight has broken out, while the choir continues to sing. Progressively, the choir stops singing and the piano accompaniment becomes discordant then ceases. The following sound effects can be heard:
- Miscellaneous crashes
- Occasional remarks and shouts from the crowd
- Progressively more students appear to yell at one another
- Mechanical whirring
- Screams
- Frye's singing devolves into her yelling in a frustrated tone
- Glass crashing
- Shiver briefly speaks calmly into a microphone, after which a Blaster or Charger direct hit sound plays, then microphone feedback can be heard; the microphone seemingly is dropped
- Shiver summons Master Mega
- Frye plays an eel-summoning melody on her pungi and uses her Eel Downpour
- A Triple Inkstrike in the distance
- A masculine Inkling being splatted
- The sound of an Ink Vac reaching full capacity, then shooting, followed by a large explosion
- Shouts and remarks from Shiver and Frye; at one point, they both laugh maniacally
- Explosions
- Police or other emergency service vehicle sirens
The recording devolves into chaos, after which traffic and overhead aircraft audio similar to the ambient noise heard in Splatsville plays.
The order of certain sounds suggest Shiver and Frye were involved in the fight that ensued. Also worth noting is that Big Man has been described as having been a skilled pianist as early as during his time in school,[1] suggesting he may have been the pianist heard in the recording.
Etymology
