Splatoon commercials
In May 2015, before the release of Splatoon, Nintendo of America launched a marketing campaign to promote the game. The campaign featured real in-game footage, but instead of using music from Splatoon, original music was made exclusively for the campaign. It was notable for its mixed to negative reception that resulted in widespread word-of-mouth discussion of the ads and Splatoon.
The ads ran on TV and YouTube for North America. People in other regions could access the ads on YouTube.

- The commercials spawned memes, such as a video with a looped line of "You're a kid, you're a squid, you're a kid, you're a squid".
- The commercials were dubbed in Spanish for the Latin American market. They include a web address, www.entintate.com (meaning "ink yourself up"), which links to the Spanish version of the American Splatoon website.
