Pearl's ear size

So, in the final boss of Octo Expansion, when Pearl's special is ready, you can see her ears and they are shown to be small. However, in the promo art for the Pulp vs. No Pulp Splatfest, Pearl's ears are shown to be regular sized; the same size as the Inklings' ears. If you look closely during a Splatfest when Pearl's performing, her ears are the same size so her ears are just small. Argus 17:54, July 26 2018

Pearl's Full Japanese Name

Pearl's page currently has that one species of rockfish as the meaning for Pearl's last name, Houzuki, but I'm pretty sure that it actually comes from "Daio- Houzuki Ika", the Colossal Squid. The "daio-" part in the name for colossal squid means "great/giant king", which matches with her given name Hime also meaning princess. Additionally, the fact that her last name comes from Colossal Squid and her given name comes from the Northen Pygmy Squid makes for an ironic contrast, with her family name being a huge squid and her given name being a tiny squid.

Also, I think it's funny that if you take the two species her Japnese name is based on, you get "Colossal Pygmy", which is basically the squid version of "Biggie Smalls", the person her Octo Expansion outfit was based on. Interesting trivia. RobotRad (talk) 01:39, 28 July 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, I don't really see why not. Why don't you add it with your own wording and see is anyone has any objection? --Raltseye prata med mej 15:25, 28 July 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm not entirely sure myself how intentional the supposed references to Biggie and Tupac are. I know there is one stage in Octo Expansion that at least in the North American English IS an intentional reference to All Eyez on Me, but this may have just been added by Nintendo Treehouse, who tend to add a lot of memes into their translations of Splatoon and other series from what I've noticed (eg. Sheldon's "RELEASE THE KRAKEN" in Splatoon 1). It should be noted in the trivia section, but we should be careful of assigning too much intent to the producers and developers of the game themselves. Just my opinion. Octo-maker71 (talk) 00:47, 1 October 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Why's Pearl's page protected from being edited but Marina's isn't?

It seems odd, like whoever's running Inkipedia is extremely biased about Pearl.

I would say it's just a mistake, also I don't believe there is one person "running" Inkipedia- it's a whole bunch of volunteers/Splatoon lovers that contribute. There are mods though :P Splattersky (talk) 04:13, 13 September 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Pearl's Russian name origin

Pearl's name "Перловка" might also be a play on her English name "Pearl" ("Перл") and a very popular Russian porridge, which is commonly reffered to as "Перловка".

Should Pearl and Marina's individual pages have their own quotes?

Since the Off the Hook page already uses their catchphrase, I feel like repeating that for Pearl's and Marina's individual pages is a bit strange, and, well... repetitive. A quote of their own would look a lot nicer and more personal, IMO. I'm happy to find a quote from Splatfest dialogue or the Octo Expansion for both of them. ^^ 〜SplatterskytalkOE Icon Pearl.png

I know that Callie and Marie both still have "Staaaay fresh!" as their page quote, as does the general Squid Sisters page, but you're right - it may be cooler for them to have more personal quotes on their own pages. I like that idea, so I could try and find some contenders too! GloverMist (talk) 08:09, 23 June 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
OK, sweet! Here's some I found for Pearl:
  • "Y'all know what time it is!" from Inkopolis News
  • "Boo-YAAAAAAHHHHHH!" from the Octo Expansion ending (that's the correct number of letters, btw)
  • "My deets? I'm short and sweet! I spit that fire make posers perspire! Step to my game? I'll bring the pain. I'm never shook because I'm OFF THE HOOK!" (My personal favourite, but we can shorten it if we need to)
Would any of them be suitable? 〜SplatterskytalkOE Icon Pearl.png
Ooh, those are some good ones! Her battle cry is my favourite. Turns out it's hard to choose individual quotes when they're so often responding to each other! I also found "Never underestimate the Pearl. aka MC Reverse Psychology, aka MC Danger Noodle", but that's in text speak, so may not be quite as fitting. GloverMist (talk) 10:39, 23 June 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That one's really good too! Though it could sound a little odd out of context. Should we go with the battle cry for now? 〜SplatterskytalkOE Icon Pearl.png
Unless anyone else has any objections, I'd say go for it. It's a plot-important moment that sums up her personality well. GloverMist (talk) 06:19, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Awesome! I'll add it now! ^^ 〜SplatterskytalkOE Icon Pearl.png

A possible Pokemon reference.

In Pokemon red and blue a gym trainer from Brock's gym says:You couldn't beat Brock if you trained for 1 million light years! Pearl says somethings similar when Black-belly Skate Park is in rotation;Could this be a reference?Fancy Squid (talk) 12:15, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Location deepsea metro?

I dont think it should be included there, considering she and marina were never actually in the deepsea metro but only talked through radio. They appeared at the end of OctEx of course, but I wouldnt really consider that to be in the metro Hario337 (talk) 18:59, 2 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Drone name

Where does the trailer call it the Pearl Drone? I can't remember seeing it. Arceusgjengen (talk) 14:26, 15 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It is at about 1:17 when they very briefly show "Drone Splat Bomb". It is in the description.  GX_64 (talk)  00:32, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I don't think it does Tokatheinklingdude (talk) 23:32, 18 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Oop sorry Tokatheinklingdude (talk) 23:40, 18 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Should we call it "Pearl Drone"?

I know the trailer says "Drone Splat Bomb", but is Pearl ever called anything but Pearl anywhere? It doesn't feel right to call her "Pearl Drone" when it seems to not be her name, dialogue boxes and such call her Pearl. Arceusgjengen (talk) 18:48, 29 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

"Pearl Drone" is used verbatim in the description of the Drone Splat Bomb chip so I don't see why we should limit ourselves to not use it. It doesn't have to be the sole way we refer to Pearl in the context of Side Order (especially as info will obviously evolve as more reveals happen and of course when it actually releases), but at least for now it shouldn't be avoided either. Very well then. Arceusgjengen (talk) 19:56, 29 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

this has been bugging me?

what does "stereotypical japanese pop princess" mean? ive never even heard of such a thing. its kind of weird this is at the front of her page. ASARIDEAD (talk) 01:27, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Basically, a stereotypical idol (which is a Japanese-originating phenomenon) with himedere qualities. Her very design has himedere elements, like blonde hair with a short bang (having light hair showing the forehead is a stereotype of “princessly” characters in Japanese media. See Beatrice from RE:Zero or Rurichiyo from Bleach.) Spleet (talk) 10:21, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I was wondering about that quote too, it makes sense now. Thanks! Olivia (talk) 10:23, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Jacket trivia rewrite

I'm glad we got more info about the jacket in general from the Famitsu interview... but really... take a GOOD LOOK at that "NASA-style patch". I still say someone on the dev team is a Trekkie. There's just too much coincidence. If we can say that the Octo Expansion outfits are based on BIG and Tupac, we should also point out *this* obvious inspiration/parody. -DJParticle (talk) 10:56, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
