Talk:Squid Sisters

From Inkipedia, the Splatoon wiki

Split

While I still think we should keep the article, Callie & Marie are such major characters that they need articles of their own. There is so much you could write about, their role in the single player campaign, their singing career and of course their news anchor occupation. Luke (talk) 10:50, 2 July 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I easily agree with a split. While the details you listed apply to both sisters the same, there are still a lot of characteristics that are dependant to each one. Enough to warrant an article IMO. Plus, when the likes of Sheldon and Crusty Sean get their own articles... – EspyoT 12:56, 2 July 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'll sandbox them and publish them when I'm done. Luke (talk) 17:38, 2 July 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Splatfest

Can someone get images of their costumes for Spltfest? They wear something different it seems.Vernanonix (talk) 15:02, 4 July 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Out of curiosity...

...is "Battle With DJ Octavio - Squid Sisters Interference/Chorus of Calamari Country (Second Phase)" the official canon title of that song? --Aykrivwassup (talk) 18:10, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well from lore (the sunken scrolls) we know that the song pictured in sunken scroll number 23 is the Chorus of Calamari Country. The part with the "Squid Sisters Interference is just taken from the boss fight because Agent 1 and Agent 2 override DJ Octavio's radio thing with Squid Sisters Music. Basically the names are taken from what's happening in the Boss Battle. Here's the sunken scroll: - Jer455 (talk) 19:21, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The twenty third Sunken Scroll.
  • Text (US): "The customary chorus of Calamari County. Nowadays, this song and dance may as well be carved into the very DNA of all Inklings. It began as a way to celebrate and show respect for the bounty of the sea."
  • Text (EU): "The traditional Calamari Shanty of the Calamari Region. Nowadays, this song and dance may as well be carved into the very DNA of all Inklings. It originated as a way to celebrate the sea and give thanks for its bounty."

Same age

At the Niconico Tokaigi concert, Marie confirms that they are "almost the same age." Just thought I'd share that because of that parentheses in the trivia section.
SalaComMander (talk) 05:52, 4 May 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Small Suggestion

In the Trivia section, it says that Callie and Marie's name together sounds like the squid dish calamari. While I agree that it does sound like calamari, I clicked on the link and it said that calamari was the culinary name for squid, not a dish, even though the Squid Sister page said it was a dish. Could someone fix that? BlazingInferno (talk) 02:06, 9 March 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I would, but I don't have permission to Octoknight (talk) 18:46, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I just did it. Miss Delibirda (talk) 18:53, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Fourth Live Performance

We need to update the information about the Squid Sisters' fourth live performance on November 3, 2016 at Niconico Cho Party. According to what I have recently saw on YouTube (which may not be a reliable source), the Squid Sisters' performance at Niconico Cho Party had them perform a City of Color/Ink Me Up medley, followed by Maritime Memory and Calimari Inkantation. In other words, they only had a small performance at the Cho Party. Whenever you get the chance, can you add that information into the article under the Live Performances section? Thank you!

Here's the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAcP7CjVhW0

Duplicate trivia points

I am simply asking for someone with higher permissions than me to remove the duplicate trivia point which states that it is unknown where Callie is in Splatoon 2, as there is a more up-to-date trivia point which states the same thing, but also states that Callie can be found in the game's Hero Mode. Dialogue in Octo Canyon (Tentakeel Outpost)

Should all the different dialogue the Squid Sisters have when you talk to them after beating single-player (in version 3.0.), be added anywhere? I don't know which page would be more appropriate to put the quotes in, e.g Tentakeel Outpost or the just Squid Sisters page. Sorry if there already is an article that has the quotes that I don't know about. -Hinamin (talk) 22:46, 10 May 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, it would be nice to have that info on the wiki. I think someone on the wiki's Discord server mentioned that they were working on it. Tentakeel Outpost seems like the best location for it, in my opinion. Heddy (talk) 23:20, 10 May 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ages

How do we know that the Squid Sisters were 17 in Splatoon? They look a lot older, also wouldn't it be kinda weird if Marina was older than them? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Agent 13 (talkcontribs) 18:20, Jul 14, 2019 (UTC)

Next to the ages, you'll see there's a reference that states where the ages come from, Splatune. More specifically it comes from an article that states:
Maritime Memory, it's the first time of mastering, shows a new side of them. A mellow ballad is sung by them who have a cheerful impression. The song can be sung during only seventeen, the time between a girl and a woman. That fragility makes beauty.
Off the Hooks' ages are revealed in The Art of Splatoon, Marina is 18, and Pearl is 21. Splatoon 2 takes place 2 years after Splatoon 1, so we can assume the Squid Sisters are 19, making Marina younger than Callie and Marie. Also don't forget to sign your comments.  KA467 🗩 🖿  21:03, 14 July 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This makes no sense...

So... In Splatoon dialogue for Bluefin Depot, Callie asks what Marie has in common with the stage and Marie replies, "When it comes to Turf War, we're both pretty rusty...", implying that she hasn't played Turf War in a long time. But if Inklings are only allowed to participate in Turf Wars at age 14 (from Nintendo websites), and Marie's official age is 17, how is that possible? This also conflicts with dialogue from Moray Towers, where Marie says, "Chargers are the very best, like no gun ever was!", suggesting that she's very familiar with that stage, which isn't possible if she hasn't played in a long time. Also, in another dialogue from Blufin Depot, Marie says that all the crossbeams get in the way of her sniping, once again suggesting that she's played a Turf War recently. Any ideas?

Here's my head canon:
When an Ink/Octoling turns 14, they start playing turf wars, and they can continue even after they turn 14. This is also true in the manga, where Emperor can continue playing despite being older than age 14. It's also stated in the Squid vs. Octopus (2018) winning team dialogue that Pearl says and I quote: "I can't believe we've been doing this for a year already", meaning that the ink/octolings are at least 15 when that splatfest was happening.

Should we remove the sections of Callie and Marie for this page?

They already have their own pages, and the pages for Off the Hook and Deep Cut don't do such a thing, so should we just remove them altogether? Tons-of-ducks (talk) 23:44, 15 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Chinese Translation of Squid Sisters

Squid Sisters' name showed in Simplifed Chinese
This sentence was said by Frye before showing credits

In official Simplifed Chinese translation in Splatoon 3
"Squid Sisters" was translated to "麻辣鱿物"(Málà yóuwù)
Traditional Chinese is "麻辣魷物"(Málà yóuwù)
It means "Spicy Squid"
(Might from "Spicy Calamari Inkantation")

There is also a name called "潮色姐妹"(Cháosè jiěmèi)
It means "Tide Color Sisters"
However i didn't find where did this came from
So it might be a fan name SheepYhangCN (talk) 05:20, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It took me some time to look but it seems that it is not a fan name but the name used in The Art of Splatoon's Chinese localisation. It seems that the Chinese localisation team went for something else in Splatoon 3. Since I am no expert I can only speculate but the translators of the book and the team behind Splatoon 3's Chinese localisation are most likely not the same meaning that the previous name is simply outdated.   Perfectionist   (talk) 17:17, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
i've checked
Splatoon3 was translated by PTW Inc, a professional game service company with localization service (actually most of language was translated by them)
and The Art of Splatoon was translated by a single person, AnPing, a Nintendo player for 20 years, the second person to get Wii U worldwidely
and they have many translation are different
for example, Judd, Squid Sisters and Cap'n Cuttlefish (might be more) SheepYhangCN (talk) 22:41, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Youth Folk-Singing Contest

Should mentions of the "Inkopolis's first annual Youth Folk-Singing Contest" be changed? Both the Japanese version and the Splatoon Base website in both languages say that it's Calamari County's annual Youth Folk-Singing Contest.
I'd say it's obsolete as both Japanese and later English sources use "Calamari County's annual Youth Folk-Singing Contest" rather than "Inkopolis's first annual Youth Folk-Singing Contest". -Gulliblepikmin

Now or Never

Can someone please fix the songs page to make it clear that the Squid Sisters sing Now or Never Splatfest version & not the normal version? Octoknight (talk) 18:44, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Translation "Names in other languages: "Staaaay fresh!"

The german phrase of it says "Bleibt spritzig!" which doesen't mean "Stay cool!" in english.

"Bleibt spritzig!" means literally "Stay sparkling!" with the definition of < sparkling/fresh >

("Stay cool!" would be "Bleibt cool!") in german. TiGeracha (talk) 16:36, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The "stay cool" is indeed unfitting. Looking up definitions the "spritzig" translates more to stimulating, invigorating or sparkling as you mentioned. It could also mean "Stay lively" etc. so you can feel free to change the German translation.   Perfectionist   (talk) 17:24, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I haven't seen that even registered users can't edit this page. Since i'm pretty new, only someone with higher priority/rights could do this. TiGeracha (talk) 15:19, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This page is a high traffic page, meaning only autoconfirmed users can edit it. Once you have edited for a few days, you will become autoconfirmed. "Spritzig" is generally translated as "Fresh" on Inkipedia pages, considering the context of Splatoon. I have changed the translation accordingly. Keep up the good work! EminenceTalk 17:45, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I followed up on that and added a translation note.   Perfectionist   (talk) 22:26, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
