Don't we already have this?

I'm pretty sure we have most of this info in other pages. I feel like this page isn't necessary. If it is though it could be greatly reworked. OrderSquid38 [Talk] 01:15, 12 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, we probably do have this info in other pages. But if we're gonna keep this page we should probably re-format it, because it looks a bit sloppy. Superlunary 01:23, 12 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Images should be added too, they're a great way to add some variety to pages and to illustrate what's being talked about. -Gulliblepikmin 04:34, 12 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

"x years ago"

every event catalogued in this page is listed as happening "x years ago." This assumes a timeline referencing the end of return of mammalians as the present for all events during splatoon one and after but still uses the start of splatoon one as the reference point for "historical" events. An important rework for this page would be to shift the language from referencing "the present" to language that talks about events in reference to eachother. eg: "Around 5 months ago - Cap'n Cuttlefish passes his title as Captain to Agent 3." => "Approximately 5 months before the events of The Return of the Mammalians - Cap'n Cuttlefish passes his title as Captain to Agent 3."

This page obviously needs a lot more work than that but this specific detail bothered me so much I made an account. Saphicjigsaw (talk) 23:09, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

When the Octo Expansion takes place

We say that we don't know if the Octo Expansion takes place, but as I was rereading the interview, I came across this: "Nogami: The events in Hero Mode and Octo Expansion take place on the same timeline. Therefore, the stories of Hero Mode and Octo Expansion don't interfere with each other, and you can play either one first. However, with the release of Octo Expansion and the increase of Octolings in the city, the time in the world of Splatoon 2 has moved forward a bit."

It sounds to me like it takes place after the events of OC.

Like always, the devs keep it ambiguous as the story technically takes place whenever you play it. However, the real-time passing is a canon and there is therefore a canon timeframe of when the stories happen. The way interviews describe it paired with in-game events, Octo Canyon happens somewhere between the release date of Splatoon 2 and ends at latest sometime before the FinalFest (Chaos vs. Order), but could have ended whenever before, depending on the player. Octo Expansion's start happens sometime after Octo Canyon's start, as it was mentioned in another interview, but it lasts somewhere in-between again until at least before the FinalFest.  Perfectionist  (talk) 20:13, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So, are you agreeing? Olivia (talk) 12:59, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Title rename

Use of the term "timeline" in the title standalone is a bit too vague for what this page is about. Single word titles like this seem more appropriate for mechanics and in-universe concepts, rather than a somewhat Doylist, wiki-like approach towards "here's all the events that make up the story so far, laid out in a timeline". Here's some ideas I have for a rename:

  • "History of the Splatoon series"
    • Perfectionist has informed me this has precedent in how Splatoon Base discusses the topic. I think it calls to mind a less story-based approach, like a history of the IRL development and release of the games/merch/spin-offs in the series.
    • "Story of/in the Splatoon series" may be a bit more concise, but doesn't generate the expectation of a bulleted list page.
  • "Timeline of story events in the Splatoon series"
    • Since the page is formatted as bullet point lists, this quickly explains it is listings of individual events rather than a full writeup via multiple paragraphs.
    • The shorter alternatives "timeline of story" and "timeline of events" may create a bit of conflict, as "story" is in-game used to refer to story mode and "events" is used to refer to event modes.

Let me know what you think, especially if you have alternative titles to propose. Yoshifan52 (talk) 23:58, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
