On the influence of Run Speed Up upon sloshers & co.

Thank you for all the hard work that you put into your graphs but is there a reason why the graph showing the influence of Run Speed Up on various weapons does not include the sloshers? This includes the Tri-Sloshers and Sloshing Machines. Around where would they appear (approx.) on your Run Speed graph? Thanks. ItchyOliver (talk) 14:12, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Run Speed Up does not affect sloshers, meaning you will always move the same speed while sloshing. You can see the slosher run speed as the mobility stat at Main Weapon#Stats. Heddy (talk) 00:31, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Yes, thanks for those! It's super helpful to be able to compare the weapons all in once place, and it's awesome that you're keeping them up to date. If I can make requests, it would be nice to see damage compared in terms of DPS and time-to-splat, and ink efficiency in terms of both damage and turf coverage. Also, it would be nice to highlight important thresholds, for instance, the 24.9, 33.3, and 49.9 damage lines on the Defense Up graph. It would also be neat if you could come up with a way of visualizing how Ink Saver (Main) and Ink Recovery interact (assuming only firing your main weapon), and the same for Quick Respawn and Quick Super Jump (assuming you only and always Super Jump after respawning). --MindWanderer (talk) 22:28, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Splatoon Files?

Hey, Heddy! In the Ink Pump page, you referenced that you searched the Splatoon files to find stats for the Rainmaker weapon. Since you have access to their files, I wanted to ask: is there a way to remove the music files, disable them, or replace them with silence to remove music? That actually looks pretty good. Any way to run Splatoon through an emulator offline? If that's possible, I'd probably re-recording my videos come the next balancing update. Possibly use an Octoling character and try to hack in the Rainmaker into the training map. I wouldn't play online, of course. Just a thought to spruce up my videos.

It's definitely possible to mess with the music. The files are in BFSTM format, which this tool can covert to and from. As for obtaining the game's files, there are no public tools that will easily dump splatoon, so you will have to find someone else's dump. To play the game after you modify the files, you need an exploited Wii U, and Loadiine. This page contains all there is to know about exploiting the Wii U. Heddy (talk) 10:35, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply! I've already started working on it, so hopefully it'll be a lot easier to RAM hack and obtain all weapons, as well as properly provide a demo for the Inkzooka and Rainmaker. But one of my earlier questions still stands: do you think that using an Octoling instead of Inkling in my weapon demos would be better, or should I keep that untouched?

Regarding the Flow page incident today

I just want to sincerely thank you for removing all of that age mumbo jumbo from the page. I shouldn't of brought up that the age on there did not accurately reflect the character (nor the lack of official citation) in the form of an addon to the speculation. And looking back onto the edits made earlier durring this month of November, I discovered that the user who claimed her age to be in the early teens just pulled a number close to the inklings age and just assumed that was her age... Most likely.

I digress though. Again, thank you.

Getting the high-quality images on the first pass

Yo! I've noticed you've gone over images I grabbed from the JP twitter with a better quality one from the Splatoon US Tumblr. You also did it with the Octobrush Nouveau earlier this week.

So, when I went to get the ones for L-3 Nozzlenose D Today I tried to do the same but could only get the 720p ones from there. Ended up getting a lower-quality 1080p-s from the JP twitter (by adding :orig after the .jpg in the file URL, if you were wondering), but again, like a total squidgician, you found even better quality ones with the same resolution, again off the Splatoon US Tumblr. Tumblr only shows the compressed versions of each image, but they do store the raw versions of each image elsewhere. I've been grabbing the raw versions available on the AWS servers used by Tumblr. You can use the greasemonkey/tampermonkey script Use Tumblr Raw Image to make getting the raw versions easy. You will notice that it changes the URL to use an AWS address instead of the Tumblr address. To my knowledge, Twitter doesn't store the raw images anywhere (though you can get decent quality by appending ":orig" instead of ":large" to the end of an image's URL), so it's better to use Tumblr. Octo Canyon Stats

Hey Heddy!
My savefile currently has none of the Octo Canyon weapons upgraded (except the Hero Shot).

I calculated the damage for each of the missing weapons by playing around with the 70/140/1000 dummies in Cuttlefish Cabin *.

How do I calculate / measure the other stats (consumption / fire rate)?

Also, I think the ink capacity upgrades need mentioning in that page as well (i.e. level 1 tank = 100%, level 2 = 150% etc.), sadly I already have that at level 3, too, so not sure how to compare. I have a second save file which I keep untouched (I use it to see what is the unlock level for new weapons), so maybe that can be used to compare Level 1 to Level 3? - Inkrid (talk) 20:33, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

In multiplayer, I've been defining the ink consumption stat as the percentage of the ink tank capacity consumed by each attack. With singleplayer I'm not so sure because of the upgradable ink tank. For now let's go with "percentage of the level 1 ink tank capacity consumed by each attack". Fire rate stats are best collected as the number of frames delaying each shot. Like there's a shot, then 12 frames pass and on the 12th frame another shot comes out. These stats are highly time consuming to collect (and it appears that no one ever documented them on the wiki for the first game), and they require video capture hardware or datamine access to find. I'm currently expecting a specific dataminer to release their findings from the parameter files that they extracted from the game.

I agree that the ink tank capacity stat should be added to the article. Do you know the capacity of each level? And the ink consumption of sub weapons should be added too. I think they're all 70%? Not sure. Heddy (talk) 02:13, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Regarding the consumption stat, That would be... interesting to measure, what with the single player having you recover ink all the time even when standing / walking around. I'll try and get some stats. Wonder if datamining can grab that data too.

Regarding whether all three subs have the same consumption, it was pretty easy to verify (did it just now), and they do.

Regarding the ink tank numbers (and the sub weapon percent), I don't really have the numbers - but it might be discernable from the indicator (either on the model or the ink bar that appears when submerged) - since the little arrow shows exactly where the tank is full enough to use the sub (i.e. as in , ). Hi Heddy! I saw you uploaded File:S2 Splatfest map.png and added it to the Map page.
I wanted to do the same with the regular map, but I do not have a capture card, so my screenshots are a lowly 720p jpg compared to your mighty 1080p png godliness.
Could you maybe upload the regular version as well?
Also the Octo Canyon map would be nice.

Hey there. I only just noticed now (a few months after the fact, lol), but I just wanted to thank you for using my info. Hi Heddy, you may want to know that a lot of the Octo Canyon pages have the name "Beaker's Lookout" to describe the third sector. You should know the correct name is "Beaker's Depot". I will change the name on whichever pages I see with this name, but I may not get them all.

Splatoon 2 Octarian Renders

I've been curious on whether or not if I should post images of some of the Octarians from the pdf of the eGuide until we get better quality ones. The only problem is that the images from the pdf aren't exactly good on quality, and I sadly don't have the full guide. Just wondering what your thoughts were. Are you talking about the Prima guide? I have the full guide and it doesn't have any good images. Try to take some good in-game screenshots. Octo Shower HD screenshots

Mainly The Octo Shower using its weapons. I managed to get screenshots of it on standby (Very annoying by the way, because unlike the rest of the bosses he doesn't give up on attacking when your hiding in Ink for the most part.) I'll go ahead and post the screenshots that I did managed to get and hopefully they'll be a lot better than the ones I got from the Switch itself.

I can answer this. Inkipedia's Policy on Signatures states that "Any part of the signature, including images, larger than 30 pixels in height" is unacceptable. The image in your signature was 100 pixels in height, and thus had to be sized down. – 16:23, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

Charts

I wanted to create more charts for the Main Power Up page that would show the effect of Main Power Up on weapons that have a different stat than damage raised when the ability is stacked, such as ones with increased range or increased ink coverage. However, I do not know what program Inkipedia users use in order to make these charts. Could you please tell me what you use in order to create Splatoon 2 ability charts for Inkipedia and possibly leave a link to the program. Warriorking98 (talk) 23:49, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

I use Graphpad Prism as it's probably the best tool there is for making attractive charts. The Prism license is a bit expensive; I haven't been making charts lately as I would have to renew my expired license. Basically any graphing tool should get the job done; you don't have to use what I used. Microsoft Excel for example can be used to graph data. If you end up using Prism, I can give you my files which you can use as a template, if you'd like. Heddy (talk) 01:24, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

Redirections

Hi, 5.2 Gal, 5.2 Gal Deco, 9.6 Gal, and 9.6 Gal Deco are not non-English Redirects, so I want to know why you gave a phony reason for deleting them. About the Krak-on 528 redirections I made, DXXVIII is 528 in Roman Numerals, and Five Hundred Twenty-Eight is 528 in word form. And if you left messages on my talk page about the Krak-on 528 redirects, I wonder why you din't leave a message about the Black Leather F-3 redirecting to the Custom Painted F-3. Sorry, I'm not Heddy, but I just wanted to say that some of those redirects feel kind of unnecessary. For the Gals, they're called .52 and .96, and I don't think there's any reason to make a redirect for a wrong decimal placement. And for the krak-on 528, it's so much easier to type out 528 rather than the roman numerals, and most people don't even know how to write a number that high up in roman numerals. I mostly echo the opinion of SundaeSquid for the Krak-on one, those could be confusing. However for the 5.2, that was deleted in a batch that may have had a few false positives. Also Heddy, I found a user page where someone put an icon for a Rapid Blaster Pro on it, but I moved my mouse over it and it said "Rabbit Blaster Pro", which gave me the idea to make that redirection. And for the Custom Painted F-3, it is similar to the White Leather F-3 but with a black color. You still haven't told me why you have a problem with that redirection. I think that they are actually hurting me more than helping me. About the Quick Respawn page, I put "fails to splat an opponent", but SplatRT keeps changing it back to "does not splat an opponent." I think my contribution is more clear. Same is true for Opening Gambit and Stealth Jump. I don't see anything wrong with "each splat extends the timer by 7 seconds and 30 frames" or "each splat extends the timer by seven and a half seconds". And I really don't like that on Stealth Jump it says "a player standing directly above the landing point may still be unable to see the landing point if they are too far above". Weapon and Ability Icons

What was the consensus about the allowance of Weapon and Ability Icons on certain pages? For the past few months, I have been adding tips for use and countermeasures to various several pages concerning main weapons. As a fellow user and player, I believe that icons can better visually aid players who are looking for tips on which abilities to pair with a certain weapon or which weapons serve as a counter against another weapon.

Here's a link to my Ink Pump proposal, where a consensus was reached. I understand that the icons draw attention to the weapon or ability being discussed, but those topics are not necessarily more important that other topics we discuss in articles, like stages or characters, where we were not placing icons next to each link. So, it would be inappropriate to draw attention to things with those icons. There's a few other reasons mentioned by me and others in that Ink Pump page, like how having the icons makes it difficult to copy article text and more difficult to create articles. In the past, nearly every weapon page had a list of recommended abilities, but the lists were removed after there was agreement for opinions to be removed. So I can't endorse recommending abilities because recommended abilities were removed from weapon pages in the past.

Yes, every player has his or her own play style with each weapon. Even on sendou.ink, not every top 500 player can agree on the best loadout for each weapon! Some players are rather aggressive with the Splattershot Jr., loading it with Comeback and Quick Respawn! However, some patterns do emerge in which abilities are used the most by players at this level. From these tendencies and advice from various profreshional players, one can deduce which abilities each weapon would benefit the most from.

In the meantime, I will go ahead and add these tables, either along with or within a "Quick Facts" section, possibly in tabular format, as a quick reference for players.

Weapons Data

Greetings. I am in the process of creating Competitive-focused pages for each weapon in Splatoon and Splatoon 2, such as this one:

Among the sections I copied from the original page for the weapon was the Data. In my humble opinion, this section is of great importance to profreshional players, especially after a version update. wrote to me that you are responsible for the Data sections for each weapon. I thought that it would be easier for players of all skill levels to follow if the data were in tabular form. Is this possible? If so, is there any way you can help me do this?

@User:DaDoc540 It would be easiest if you make a table template for the data. That way, you wouldn't have to do any manual work on pages. Are you familiar with wiki templates? Take a look at Template:Charger data S2 for example, you could create a new template based on that, just with a table instead of sentences. Maybe spammer

People may have gone over this before, but i think AlexD830 may be a spammer. he reacently put totaly false info on the private battle page, P.J. GT helped fix that, and he has done that before.Squid400 (talk) 17:26, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Spammers are usually robots that insert unsolicited advertisements into pages. Someone who is always adding on-topic information could not possibly be a spammer. If you believe the information they added is false, you should discuss this with them to resolve the misunderstanding. I reverted that edit because I misunderstood the "Players don't gain points from Private Battles" sentence. I thought that it mentioned both Level-Up XP and a Weapon's lifetime ink coverage don't increase when played in said mode. Sorry If I'm not what you expected but try adding things that are good to the Bloblobber Deco under a Use section (such as it has good range) but expand on it. Also add things that are bad about it under a countermeasures and expand on it (Such as it has low run speed). I'm not Heddy but just chiming in that that page doesn't serve much purpose since we already have the navbox and Category:Weapon strategy. I can see the merit of it as a checklist page for the people creating the articles but don't think it does much in the mainspace that isn't already done. Luke26 (talk) 17:53, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

@Squid400 A page creation status checklist is only useful to editors. To create a better replacement for Category:Weapon strategy, think about what a reader would like to see. I have suggestions: it could have a summary of key info from each weapon article (such as role or strengths/weaknesses), and the icon for each weapon. @Squid400 You could look at the shooter table as an example, or you could do any format you think of. I recommend deciding on a format to use before thinking of making a template. About being off

I had small inconsistent edits for a few days, and was off for about three. I have a valid reason. Me and my friend were hanging about near our local corner shop when this cyclist crashed into him, there was a lot of blood and pain, and I couldn't bring myself to do anything. Demotion?

Hi Heddy, I just wanted to bring it to your attention that WayslideCool has not patrolled a single edit since July 21, 2020. During this time period they have also only made seven edits. I don't have anything against WayslideCool I just wanted to bring this to an admins attention.

Also, the status bar on the RightsList is based on edits, but perhaps the bar should be based on how much the user uses the tools. Because a user shouldn't be a patroller or admin if they don't use the tools these roles provide them. Just wondering, EminenceTalk 17:15, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

According to the demotion policy, not using rights is a valid reason for demotion. That is a long period of time to go without patrolling, so I decided to change them to autopatrolled. @Carrie That's a wonderful dream! I also want this wiki to be the 'wikipedia of inkopolis'. But are you sure you need to be admin? Admin tools are just for deleting and protecting pages and blocking users. It is possible to improve the wiki without being an admin. In fact, the users who have contributed the most are not admins.

Usually no one goes straight to admin, they get plenty of experience in multiple areas of the wiki, then become patroller, then become admin. If you want to request rights, you can do so at Requests for Rights, where everyone would vote and provide feedback. Heddy (talk) 23:34, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
