Archive help

Hey Randomnamehere, a couple things for when you are archiving your talk page. Firstly, for obvious reasons, don't archive active discussions. Secondly, you still need a main talk page, so this one shouldn't be deleted. Instead, I'd suggest creating a link to the archive at the top of the page. Hope it helps! You are not staff

Do not make staff decisions if you are not staff. If you had a concern about potential personal information, per the policy itself you should have contacted an administrator or bureaucrat about the issue—not handle it directly. I mean, you can, but you'll be wrong. Naming what US State you live in is not personal information, and it would be assuredly impossible to locate or identify a user from a broad area of nearly 6 million people. There are editors here from countries with smaller populations. It's non-descript enough area that it can give a general idea of where one resides comfortably without being identifiable. But then listing your name is too personal? I believe the rule is only to protect people from being found, but how will someone find me by just listing my name? It's more likely for someone to find me if I list my state than if I list my name, yet that's too personal. If I say I live in Tokyo, is that too much info or not? Tokyo has a fairly large population, and it would ALSO be nearly impossible to spot me and me only. Please actually read the policy. We very explicitly state a full name. We are not forbidding a first name. Several users already list theirs. For the matter of a first name, it is up to whether or not you feel safe enough online for your own digital protections to release that information. I certainly haven't, but plenty of other people feel differently. That is a preference. For a full name, particularly a legal one, that could lead to issues from scamming, identity fraud, location tracking, or worse. They are overwhelmingly different. Moving Telephone page

Hey Randomnamehere, I noticed that you had some confusion regarding the Move template I placed on the Telephone page. The reason I put the template there rather than outright moving the page is that Telephone is a major page and I wanted to give other users a chance to discuss it and object to the move on the talk page. The move template is not telling people to actually move the page, think of it as a proposal to move the page, that should be discussed on the talk page first. Thanks! Moving files 2

I've said this before and I'll say it one final time: Do not delete the redirects when requesting to delete files. They must be kept in order for me to verify they are correctly unused, put to an actually sufficient name, and most importantly to have them to automatically be added to the deletion reason, so that way readers/editors are able to navigate historical uses of names from old name to new ones. This is extremely important, and deleting the redirect when adding the delete template is actively making it more difficult for me and other staff to do their job and do it correctly and effectively. Please follow the format presented below when requesting deletions on redirects:

{{Delete|Unnecessary redirect}} #REDIRECT [[Pagename]]

Go ahead and remove the to-do sections. They were only put there because *some* form of documentation was desired when the template was removed. That means they are not true talk page messages and can be deleted. Trig - 19:06, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

Gallery edits

Hey, just wanted to give a heads-up that you don't need to add "File:" prefixes when editing galleries; images in them are automatically rendered just by providing the file name. It's not a big deal if some pages have them (as visual edits to galleries unfortunately will automatically add prefixes), but generally you shouldn't be going out of your way to add them, as it takes up your time and slightly bloats the page size for no actual benefit.
