Welcome!

Hey, thank you for the speedy response! This wiki operates slightly differently from the Wikia one, but I think it's much easier and customizable. By the way, do you have a Skype?

-ShrimpPin (talk) 23:31, 4 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hard to tell yet as all my modcons are over on Wikia. Achievements really nice there too ;) My Skype is kribbian - Slate (talk) 23:48, 4 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'm still kind of new to Wikipedia stuff (I only started today) but I will reformat what you have asked me to! I guess this is the best way to contact you? Cause idk if my last edit reached you. I wasn't able to format it yet but I will soon! DarkPrimeEchoes

Could you add a category to the missions?

Since you are working on the mission article, could you add the missions category to them? --SgvSth (talk) 23:54, 5 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Added :Category:Mission onto {{Infobox/Mission}}. Please use non-plural version. -- Thanks :) Slate (talk)
I was wrong, categories should be plural. I've changed it to Category:Missions as originally asked. - Slate (talk) 01:27, 6 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not a problem and thanks for adding it to the template instead.  :) --SgvSth (talk) 01:49, 6 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes we can have a game together

Hey there

Thanks for the welcome message! I joined here for numerous reasons, but my main reasons are that using the Wii U Internet Browser I could upload correct quality images and so I can upload better quality images. I also joined on instinct atfer seeing fan-art in Inkling/Gallery. That was pretty unprofessional, so I couldn't have just left it lying there. :P UltraInkling3000 (talk) 12:40, 8 July 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Question

Yo I've been adding everything from the italian splatoon localization for quite a while- everything's been pretty straightforward by far but I really gotta ask about this one. You know the stage pages? I'm adding Marie and Callie's descriptions to every page and I noted that with some languages, there's the english translation right below. Now, are those lines suppose to be the direct translation of how those dialogues were translated or just what english dialogue it originally was? Because by far, the latter is the one I assumed. Being the only european admin, I beg you for some clarification. --LittleSkullKid (talk) 00:06, 7 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think it would be best to have a translation of the quotes as the original English quotes we have above. Most of the translations in Italian originally came from English though, so I won't be surprised if there's very few 'original' Italian quotes -- that should make translating back pretty easy.
Slate Talk Contribs 11:06, 8 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm not used to getting a reply on the same discussion page, so took me a while to notice this. For some reason the italian localization stuff actually made some random edits to the original phrases, but yeah- it's mostly the same. I'll keep collecting and translating them all, then.--LittleSkullKid (talk) 17:05, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
LittleSkullKid, thank you for all your time and effort adding to the stage dialogue. I definitely did notice that more non-English localization quotes were appearing. It's much appreciated!
Regarding translations, when I first added them to the stage dialogue tables, it was because I found the Japanese to differ sometimes from even the NOE English. For example, in one, Callie talks about warfs being delicious, and Marie suggests she's talking about grapes. (Japanese word pun.) I didn't want this information to be lost to readers who do not know Japanese. It also extends to other languages, such as a German Kelp Dome quote of Marie saying Callie is full of "hot air" while the NOE English says Callie is "sweaty". (I think the German's better!) A French one for Camp Triggerfish has Callie is excited to cook hot dogs over a campfire, and Marie proclaims that marshmallows are better, going against their NOA English counterpars. These all add to who Callie and Marie are in each localization.
I did see some quotes where the official English was in the translation slot, and I replaced it with a translation of the localization, so no worries there. Also, I'll update the usage information on Template:StageQuotes to clarify!
--Christopher Fritz (talk) 17:23, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I fully understand the joy of collecting all the localizations and looking at how they differ from one another. Plus, I'm also having fun translating the italian quotes as close as possible to their original meaning. I found the stage quote template rather buggy sometimes, but most issues seems to have been fixed over time. Two more things, though: one is the pun explanation for the twelth quote in Arowana Mall. Unless you have an idea about how to make it fit into the formatting, it might as well be removed from the page code. The other thing is the first quote from Blackbelly Skatepark - Callie speaks two lines before moving to Marie's one. For now, I simply wrote both lines in one. Given the short text space of the usual stage quote, I guess people can easily assume that it's two lines rolled in one, so it might be fine to leave it like that.--LittleSkullKid (talk) 12:33, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Skype

Hi, so I sent a request to [removed] but hasn't answered yet. I'm Derpidot, I don't use skype that often though (mainly just text and voice). So, yeah, just a friendly reminder. Okay, bye!

Grammar & plurality

Hi,

The sentence The soccer team is in the car. sounds correct and is grammatical in English. The sentence *The soccer team are in the car. is not. This is because "team" is a collective noun. "Gear" is another one of these nouns. You say "the gear has been added," not "the gear have been added."

Here's from https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/gear#Noun: gear ‎(countable and uncountable, plural gears) 1. (uncountable) equipment or paraphernalia, especially that used for an athletic endeavor.

In this case it is considered uncountable, and therefore we use "gear." You even cited this in your message to me.

Another example: The camping gear was put in the bag, not *The camping gear were put in the bag. Do you agree with this one?

As someone who has both studied Linguistics (working toward a college degree in it currently) and is a native speaker of English (though it is 5 a.m. so my sentences may not be the best formed, currently), I know grammaticality of sentences is often not set in stone, and some sentences can be judged to be grammatical by some, while others may deem them incorrect. However, this one is pretty evident to me, and I think most others would agree with me. –Eli (talk) 12:07, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Would it be wise...

To limit creation of user pages to autoconfirmed users, with the recent spam that's been going on? Nyargleblargle (Talk · Contribs) 10:23, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No, given that your userpage is almost always the first page newbies edit and doubles up as a sandbox. Slate Talk Contribs 11:46, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Fair enough. Alternatively, are there multiple spam IPs creating these accounts or just one or two? If it's the latter, we should be okay by just blocking those. Nyargleblargle (Talk · Contribs) 14:55, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
One of the Block options is "Automatically block the last IP address used by this user, and any subsequent IP addresses they try to edit from" so whenever the users are blocked, their IP is too. I figure that it is a bot network and therefore has practically unlimited IPs. Only Prod as bureaucrat can say if the IPs we've blocked are in the same range though. SplatoonEU Twitter account

Hey,

I saw you thought @SplatoonEU was a legit Nintendo Twitter account, but in its bio, it lists a gmail address for contacting them, and as you would imagine, Nintendo don't use gmail. Plus the image used is Nikki's. Inkling luke.png (Inkling talk.png) 20:45, 19 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Vandalism

Vernanonix and Dr.Wanknard are blanking pages and uploading gory pictures, respectively. Just thought I'd let you know if you didn't already. --Bzeep! talk 01:58, 7 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New Main Page

Pssst I like how your draft's coming out. It's lookin pretty cute. 🌟 --Bzeep! talk 14:21, 11 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks! A did a lot of reading up about mediawiki flow controls and it turned out that the gallery that we've been using all this time has extra attributes! The rewrite's been on the plans for a while because let's face it... if you're here then chances are you know what Splatoon is, and that makes half of the main page we have redundant :P
Any additions/edits you wanna make feel free to just go ahead or write stuff on its discussion page.
Slate Talk Contribs 14:33, 11 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Heh yeah, I read that page too but promptly forgot about it. :B
As for improvements, all I can think of is putting a little more space between the Main Content box and the stuff above and below it so the spacing matches the boxes below it (Featured/IotM/etc). I'll see if I can finagle that.

New Splatfest Boxes

Hey I know you're probably not done with those lil Splatfest boxes yet, but so far I think 2a's my favorite. It looks the most concise, imho. --Bzeep! talk 22:30, 13 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

History Monthly Maps available

Hi,

First I would like to thank you for this wonderful website: Inkipedia. I have a good idea for the Inkipedia.

For every 4 hours will you get a new maps. It is also quite nice when you per month: How many maps have become available per month. As you can each month compare! And Splatfest result of the game you can also look back.

I'm curious about your answer.

Thanks ;)

Greetings, Dolfijn NL

Hi there Dolfijn, welcome to Inkipedia! I'm not actually the owner here but one of the administrators. User:GuyPerfect is working on a tool which tracks stages. I've made an "introduced" header to the infobox on each stage to clearly show when each stage was first introduced. Each will already have the date it came out on the page.
As for Splatfest, you can see the results and the stage that were played on at Splatfest#Stages.
Thank you for your kind words and suggestions! Slate Talk Contribs 21:56, 23 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Changing username...?

Idk if I actually can change my username on this wiki, but if it's at all possible can you tell me how? I want to change it to DatNuttySquid since this is a Splatoon site :P Now dat's a nutty kid. 20:09, 20 December 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi! Our webmaster, Prod has just enabled the feature but it's limited to bureaucrat approval at the moment. I'm making a request page now so you can make an official request and he can approve the username change. Slate Talk Contribs 22:46, 20 December 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Requests for Rename

Hey! Looking at Requests for Rename (nice job setting it up), what do you think of just having requests filed on a single page? (e.g. [[Inkipedia:Requests for Rename/Requests]]). Basically how Wikipedia does it. I'm thinking it would be easiest to have all the requests available at a glance on a single page, instead of having to navigate and track multiple request pages. ~SuperHamster Talk 19:45, 26 December 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
