Stage p totals

Hi! Where did you get the info on total inkable p for the Splatoon 3 stages, which you added to a variety of stage articles and Stage#Splatoon 3 stages? Just curious. Someone in the Inkipedia Discord manually covered Resort with ink and it shows a higher number than the one you provided? Thanks! –Eli (talk) 05:00, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for asking. Peer review is important for new discoveries. The way I calculated total inkable p was simply by following the instructions in Stage#Splatoon 3 stages. I have a spreadsheet where after a turf war I record each team's ink coverage in p and % and I use formula to tell me what range of total values could give that % for a given p. The relevant data points for Mahi-Mahi Resort are 648p and 38.3% gives a range of 1,690-1,694 and 633p and 37.5% gives a range of 1,686-1,690. I am intrigued about the higher value in recon because I have no explanation for it. I am not 100% confident about how the percents are rounded as I discuss on the Stage Talk Page, but even best case scenario assuming Judd rounds up to the nearest .1%, the results of any turf war where you ink at least a decent amount of the stage will show 1712 is too high. Hello there! I'm the Discord user in question who provided the screenshot and data about Mahi-Mahi Resort's point count. I was curious if there were any calculators involved, as my findings were rather interesting. I spent some time fiddling about in Recon mode, and I found that there were some inconsistencies in how the points are calculated. When doing my method in which I would run through the entire map, pushing every possible wall and boundary to its limits, some stages rounded down, and some rounded up. I only tested four maps, (being Mahi-Mahi Resort, Hammerhead Bridge, Scorch Gorge and Wahoo World). The first two gave values for p that were above than what is currently listed, being 1712p and 2510p, against 1690p and 2477p (respectively), as per listed on their articles. As you have also mentioned, those calculations can round up, with my results of Scorch Gorge and Wahoo World's point count being below those listed on the wiki. I only recorder Scorch Gorge's data (2125p v 2142), but gave up on Wahoo World because I was off by a fair margin. Of course, in Recon, it's an environment that is not replicated anywhere else in the game, so I was allowed as much time as I needed to gather the data I needed. Under normal Turf War circumstances, 1712p on Mahi-Mahi resort would be rather improbable, as it would require a large team effort (on both sides) to ink the entire, and I mean entire stage. I decided to try the recon strategy for myself . The stage I chose was Inkblot Art Academy because it is 1 of 2 stages that I know of where you can stand on your opponents spawn area (and I didn't want to deal with the rotating bits of Museum d'Alfonsino). In the end the HUD said I inked 2,615p, 5 higher than the 2,610 I previously calculated. From doing this excessive, the thing that stood out most to me was the nooks and crannies such as under boxes or between the structure you land on after super jumping to spawn and the wall that don't show up on the map, but could still be inked for a few p. My current hypothesis about the difference in point values is there can be (very) small areas of flat ground in stages that can be inked for p, but don't count and the end for determining which team won. The best way I can think to test this hypothesis is to do a turf war where one team inks as much as they can while the other inks nothing. Then we see if the team score of team doing stuff equals the total of the four individual scores or not. Unfortunately, I do not have the resources to do a test of that scale.
P.S. For further talk on this subject, can we take it to the Discussion section of the Stage page instead of my user talk page. Squidkitt (talk) 09:13, 27 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
