- This article is about the Splatfest in Splatoon 3. For the Splatfest from Splatoon 2, see Knight vs. Wizard.
Wizard vs. Knight vs. Ninja, also known as Splatoween, was a seasonal special Splatfest event in Splatoon 3. It is the second Splatfest to take place during Drizzle Season 2024. The event was announced on social networks on 9 October 2024.[1]
This is the first encore[2] Splatfest event to be held following the final Splatfest Past vs. Present vs. Future.
Details

In addition to the normal changes during Splatfest, there were unique Halloween-themed changes, carrying over from Zombie vs. Skeleton vs. Ghost:
- The logo on the Title screen was changed to the Splatoween logo.
- Alongside the returning decorations for Splatsville and Inkopolis Plaza, Inkopolis Square was decorated with a Halloween theme as well. Such decorations include an orange bubble effect, a green mist effect, stickers, jack-o-lanterns, and giant sheets on the animal statues. A full moon was visible in the sky.
- In the lobby, if the floor is inked, various patterns and white stickers in the shapes of fishbones and vampire squids appear.
- Deep Cut and the Squid Sisters' special costumes from the Zombie vs. Skeleton vs. Ghost Splatoween event return, while Off the Hook receives new costumes:
- Shiver's shawl was black with red outlines and had a white section with a pattern of black curved lines; her usual octopus pendant changed to one shaped after Deep Cut's logo. Her pants did not have the usual cuts on her right thigh; instead, they had red details drawn on them and fade into the same color of her skin. Her shoes changed to black wedged zōri sandals with red straps, revealing her toes having the same coloring as her fingertips, which have an added gradient from black to red for the occasion. Her tentacles were black fading to red, and in them she wore two hair sticks and a red spider lily, a symbol for death in many East Asian cultures; her eyebrows were dark red and her usual earrings were not present. On her face, she wore red eye shadow smudged towards the outer eye corners and black lipstick on her lower lip; additionally, her skin seemed to glow a pale color in the dark. She also changed her fan to one that is white with red stripes, and had the swirls from Deep Cut's logo across it.
- Frye's usual turtleneck was black, and her shawl was replaced with a silver shoulder necklace consisting of a chain with round, dangly pendants. She wore a head chain with teardrop-shaped pendants on her forehead, as well as a triple metal cuff bracelet on her right arm and black triangular earrings. Her tentacles were black fading to a light orange, and she wore a murex shell on her head, possibly referencing a human ribcage. Her usual pants were black and torn on her right leg, revealing bright purple leggings underneath, while her squid pendant was replaced with one that has the shape of Deep Cut's logo and was held by two silver chains instead of a cord. Her socks were replaced with black bandages held up with thin metal chains, while the cord on her hair was black instead of white. Her eyelashes were colored purple fading to orange, and her eyes had a purple tone fading towards their usual yellow; she also had dots of white make-up on her temples and cheeks.
- Big Man wore a large sheet sewn to his size with various holes around his face and body to replicate a ray. The outfit was also able to light up. His hat was replaced with what appears to be driftwood.
- Callie and Marie's usual outfits were orange in a corduroy fabric with black stripes and collars. Their hats were light green, they wore makeup resembling stitches around their eyes, and their noses were painted black, resembling jack-o-lanterns. Their eyes were red instead of their usual gold.
- Pearl and Marina wore variants of their outfits from Chaos vs. Order, with darker color schemes for the occasion. Pearl wore a black crown with its points slightly bent in one direction, and wore a black sleeveless dress that fans out slightly at the bottom, with a dark brown piece bearing a pink cross symbol on her chest; the bottom of the dress has black and pink fish-scale spikes pointing to the right. She also wore leggings with a black-to-pink gradient, black boots with spikes on their sides, and her usual gloves. Unlike in Chaos vs. Order, she has no squid tattoo over her left eye. Marina wore a high-collared black dress with a number-eight cut at the chest and very long sleeves turning into gloves, matching leggings with a darker diamond pattern, and thigh-length heeled boots with a black-to-green gradient covered by her dress. She also had two green shapes painted on her left cheek and her diamond-patterned headphones from Chaos vs. Order, which now glow green instead of white. The spots on the tips of Pearl's tentacles glow a bright lime green, and the diamond patterns on Marina's dress flash to the beat of the music.
- Characters in the plaza and lobby such as Jellyfish, Staff, Judd, Murch, and Smallfry wore orange, purple and green party hats decorated with various patterns. Some of the small jellyfish wear jack-o-lantern masks with the color matching their respective teams.
- A special news article in the Nintendo Switch news rewards players with four unique pieces of headgear, returning from the Splatoon 2 Splatfest event Trick vs. Treat:[3]
- Music is added or modified for the Splatfest:
- A special Halloween-themed song played in the lobby, titled Deepers Creepers, instead of Soak & Stomp. Crab-N-Go also plays a unique theme.
- The title screen had a different sound, along with the Deep Cut intro.
- Anarchy Rainbow and Anarchy Poisons (Bird Mix) were modified for the Splatfest. The latter lacks the whistling samples.
- Commence the Fest, Ego Overboard, and Still Swimmin' were all modified.
- The start of a battle was modified, now having a film grain filter and ghosts flying out from the center of the screen. The ink splatters in Tricolor Turf War had a glowing effect.
- This Splatfest has a special ink variant featuring a marbled effect and pulsing with a glowing effect.
- The TV screens in Splatsville, Inkopolis Plaza, and the lobby displayed unique videos related to the Halloween theme of the Splatfest.
The Tricolor Turf War stages for this Splatfest were Scorch Gorge and Mincemeat Metalworks.

Shiver![]() “What would you be in a fantasy world? Wizard, knight, or ninja?” |
Big Man![]() “Ay! (Now THIS is a theme!)” |
Shiver![]() “Wizards hold a certain appeal. They can command the elements, or even fly!” |
Frye![]() “I'm going with knights. I'm a sucker for a cool sword and a code of honor!” |
Big Man![]() “Ay! Ay! (Ninjas though! Shadows for hire who pounces unexpectedly on their prey!)” |
Frye![]() “Funny how the choices line up exactly with our classes in Bunkers and Krakens.” |
Big Man![]() “Ay! (I can't wait for next session's big showdown with the Pumpkin Army!)” |
Notes: This is a reference to a popular fantasy tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons.
Big Man “Ay? (Hey, Shiver, have you ever rolled a character who WASN'T a wizard?!)” |
Shiver![]() “Why would I? They're the objectively best class in the game.” |
Shiver![]() “I get to needle the enemy with spells from afar before unleashing the big finisher!” |
Frye![]() “Funny how the "big finisher" is always an AOE your party members get caught up in...” |
Shiver![]() “Easy solution: an all-wizard party. Foes would tremble before our dark magicks!” |
Frye![]() “I'd rather be a knight. Easier to protect my friends with a sword and board!” |
Shiver![]() “Protect us from what? The three of us steamroll practically every encounter.” |
Frye![]() “Oh yeah. OK, how about this?” |
Frye![]() “I'll hide behind a wall until trouble shows up. Then I pop out and do the knight thing.” |
Big Man “Ay! (A knight's gotta BE the wall to keep everybody else safe though!)” |
Big Man![]() “Ay? Ay. (Did you two read the theme? It's not just about who's best in a game.)” |
Frye![]() “Well, if we're taking this seriously all of a sudden, what's your fantasy job, Big Man?” |
Big Man![]() “Ay! Ay. (A ninja! I'd get to dress in black, run over water, and jump between roofs.)” |
Shiver “I don't think your Furtiveness score is high enough for that.” |
Big Man![]() “Ay! (And I'd use ninja magic to blind the enemy, countering at the perfect moment!)” |
Frye “That's just your game character again!” |
Shiver![]() “And in the game, wizards are quadratically superior to your linear melee classes.” |
Frye![]() “Oh, like math matters! What really counts is bravery–chivalry–HEART!” |
Big Man![]() “Ay. Ay. Ay. (No. Only the mission matters. A ninja must be ready to die for it.)” |
Shiver “Yikes. Take it down a notch, Big Man.” |
Shiver![]() “Anyway, we've made our cases. The stage is set for another very special Halloween!” |
Frye![]() “Claimed your free costume yet? If not, check the Nintendo Switch News app!” |

(What would you be in a fantasy world? A wizard, knight, or ninja?) |
Ray![]() “Ay! (Dat is nog eens een goede vraag!)” (Ay! (Now that is quite a good question!)) |
(I find wizards the most awesome, cause they can do anything with their control of the elements!) |
(I will go for knights, cause they have cool swords and such a bling bling armor.) |
Ray![]() “Ay! (Gezien worden is cool, maar als een ninja ongezien je doelwit uitschakelen is nog cooler!)” (Ay! (Being seen is cool, but eliminating your target unseen as a ninja is much cooler!)) |
(Ha! Those are precisely the different roles we play in games.) |
Ray![]() “Ay! (Dat doet me eraan denken dat we dat pompoenenleger nog samen moeten verslaan!)” (Ay! (That reminds me that we still have to defeat that pumpkin army!)) |
Ray “Ay? (Zeg, Haya, heb jij ook maar ooit iets anders gespeeld dan een tovenaar?)” (Ay? (Say, Shiver, have you ever even played something other than a wizard?)) |
(Why would I? That is by far the best role in every game.) |
(You weaken enemies gradually from a distance and then you finish it off with a giga-spell!) |
Muriël![]() “Ah, je bedoelt zeker zo'n spreuk waarmee je iedereen, inclusief je team, in brand zet?” (Ah, you must mean such a spell with which you set everyone, including your team, on fire?) |
(Yes, but then my team should have chosen wizards, too. Then they wouldn't have stood in the way.) |
(I rather play a knight. Fearless at the front as a shield for my friends!) |
(A shield against what then? With the three of us we always win every battle easily.) |
Muriël![]() “Da's waar. Maar we kunnen het ook anders doen!” (That's true. But we can do things differently, too!) |
(I can grab enemies who are coming at you guys from behind in their scruff of the neck, too!) |
Ray “Ay! (Ja, maar dan lopen we juist weer risico doordat je niet als een schild voor ons staat!)” (Ay! (Yes, but then we are exactly at risk again because you are nog standing as a shield in front of us!)) |
Ray![]() “Ay? Ay. (En hebben jullie de vraag gelezen? Het gaat niet over wat goed is in een game.)” (Ay? Ay. (And have you guys read the question? It is not about what is good in a game.)) |
(Oh yes... Well, why would you want be a ninja so eagerly?) |
Ray![]() “Ay! (Als ninja beweeg ik in de schaduwen, ren over water en spring van dak tot dak!)” (Ay! (As a ninja, I move in the shadows, run over water, and jump from roof to roof!)) |
(And then you will go bring children little presents?) |
Ray![]() “Ay! (Nee, ik verblind vijanden met rookbommen, zodat ik zonder tegenstand kan toeslaan!)” (Ay! (No, I will blind enemies with smoke bombs, so that I can seize my chance without opposition!)) |
Muriël “Dus precies zoals je je gamepersonages altijd speelt...” (So precisely how you always play your game characters...) |
(In any case, I want to be a wizard. Then I will solve every problem from a little distance.) |
(And what about the honor then? You ought to protect others and be a chivalrous example for everyone!) |
Ray![]() “Ay. Ay! (Nee. Je moet vol voor je missie gaan, zelfs als je er je leven voor moet geven!)” (Ay. Ay! (No. You must go full for your mission, even if you have to give your life for it!)) |
Haya “Hè jakkes, Ray. Hou het een beetje luchtig.” (Aww yeesh, Big Man. Keep it a little bit lighthearted.) |
(But well, now the choice is up to the fans. In any case, it will be a fun Splatoween again!) |
(Have you folks claimed your free costume already? You can do so via the news channel on your Nintendo Switch.) |

Ray![]() “Ay! (Een schaduwrijke overwinning voor de ninja's!)” (Ay! (A shadowfull victory for the ninjas!)) |

Notes: Schaduwrijk is a pun in that it also means "underworld" or, literally, "shadow realm".
Haya![]() “Wat een ontgoocheling.” (What a disillusion.) |
(Pfff, those sneaky ninjas with their tin openers...) |

Haya “Over succes gesproken: ik was heel erg te spreken over Team Tovenaars spreuken.” (Speaking of success: I was very much pleased with Team Wizard's spells.) |
(And Team Knight has waged battle nobly, even though we were given tin for tat.) |

Notes: Blik op stuk is a pun on lik op stuk ("tit for tat") and blik ("tin [can]")
(Do you guys still remember that everyone could easily see Big Man at hide-and-seek back in the day?) |

(Yes, I want that too! And that you can run across water and turn into a bird!) |
(Then you can keep on dreaming, cause true ninjas couldn't do sort of things at all.) |
(Oh, there comes Shiver from the shadows to snuff out our fun...) |
Ray![]() “Ay! (Nou, we hadden het over een fantasie- wereld, dus ik vind dat alles kan!)” (Ay! (Well, we were talking about a fantasy world, so I find that anything goes!)) |
Haya![]() “Dat is waar... Oké, dan wil ik een ninjamasker en werpsterren ter grootte van pizza's.” (That is true... Okay, then I want a ninja mask and shurikens the size of pizzas.) |

Trivia
- This is the second Splatoween themed Splatfest event in Splatoon 3, after Zombie vs. Skeleton vs. Ghost. Additionally, the ink colors between both Splatfests are identical.
- Additionally, since the previous Splatoween event occurred before the release of Side Order, this is the first Splatoween themed Splatfest in Splatoon 3 to include special decorations and theming in Inkopolis Square.
- This Splatfest's first two options are the same as those of the Knight vs. Wizard Splatfest from Splatoon 2, albeit with the order of the options swapped. The Ninja option was also used for the Pirates vs. Ninjas and Barbarian vs. Ninja Splatfests in Splatoon.
- Wizard vs. Knight vs. Ninja is the first time a Ninja team has won a Splatfest.
- The game mentioned by Deep Cut in the announcement dialogue, "Bunkers & Krakens", is a reference to the real-world fantasy tabletop game Dungeons & Dragons.
- If one were to revisit the Grand Festival Grounds during this Splatfest, the Splatfest Tee would temporarily revert to its default design. Additionally, the player's team would also be displayed as Past, Present, or Future, depending on which team they were on (Shiver's team would display "Past", Frye's team would display "Present", and Big Man's team would display "Future").
- A small squid-shaped formation is seen on the moon. This was also seen in Splatoon 2's Splatoween Trick vs. Treat.
- The result for the Sneak Peek category had a 0.04% difference between Team Wizard and Team Ninja, which is currently the smallest percentage difference for said category in Splatoon 3.
- Frye has two right hands in the promotional artwork.
