The String's The Thing is the 14th level in Splatoon 3's story mode, Return of the Mammalians.

Description

To reach the goal, the player will have to use the newly introduced weapon, the Tri-Stringer, to attack the Octarians through the level.

Access

The player has to climb an ink-able wall near Octopods at Rest Tend to FLIP OUT!. The player doesn't need to clear Fuzzy Ooze to get there as they can just climb it.

Walkthrough

Landing

The player first sees 3 small Splat-Switches in a horizontal rotation and after that is the vertical variation that the player must jump while shooting and moves on after shooting them with the new Tri-Stringer. The player sees 6 small crates with 3 Octotroopers behind it. When the Octotroopers are defeated, the player sees 3 Octotroopers on the left side. The player moves on and sees a few vertical crates. There are some pillars afterwards guarded by Octotroopers. The player sees a few more pillars and Octotroopers afterwards and a Blobby Octotrooper. After defeating them, the player hops on a launchpad and goes to the next checkpoint.

Checkpoint 1

The player would go on a support platform and learn how to do a charged shot, just like the Charger, Splatling, and Splatana classes. Once the player successfully does a charged shot, they will be rewarded with some Power Eggs. The player would find some armor and afterwards, an army of Octotroopers standing on crates. The player has to either take the high ground and use the new skill they learned a few seconds before that or go all out by defeating them quickly and dodging their attacks. The player would find some Octocopters afterwards and defeat them to get to the launchpad.

Checkpoint 2

The player finds some armor and defeats some Octotroopers. This time, some Blobby Octotroopers take the high ground and Agent 3 has to stop them by shooting up high. They will have to defeat a Rocket Octocopter. Shielded Octotroopers will appear and the player has to make use of the charged shot to defeat them from behind using the moving walls. The player would get to the goal after this.
