Hi everyone! Today’s Tumblr post is brought to you by [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2JiZAV5BmDUhscQQ5oXsXaJhI-aT25r8 Nintendo Minute]! (Or, more specifically, Kit and Krysta!)
Splatoon officially celebrates its first anniversary this weekend in North America! So many great things happened within a year, thanks to all of you!
Krysta: I guess we are! If only we had something to talk about…
We sincerely appreciate your support, and we hope you continue to enjoy Splatoon.
Kit: Well, it’s 2016 now. A few days after the New Year I said it was 2014 and felt like a real dork. I largely avoid New Year’s resolutions, but like the idea of doing them for game.
<code>#Splatoon</code> <code>#SquidLab</code> <code>#Nintendo</code> <code>#WiiU</code> <code>#Great Moments in Squid History</code>
Krysta: Here’s my first gaming resolution: catch-up on Zelda games! I’m a little embarrassed to admit this but there are two Zelda games I’ve either not played all the way through or just don’t remember that well. Can you guess what they are? (Hint: this is a friendship test.)
Kit: Those are both really great games… Link’s Awakening doesn’t feel limited at all despite being on the original Game Boy, and Zelda II is still one of the biggest departures for the series as a side-scrolling game. There is one problem though…

The long-awaited release of Sheldon’s Picks Vol. 2 is finally confirmed! Coming the evening of June 7th, we heard that the new weapon combinations may allow you to discover even more new battle strategies. We’ll let you know more details on the upcoming weapons once Sheldon gives us more info!
[[File:Tumblr Legend of Zelda game over.jpg|250px]]
----
Kit: My first gaming resolution is something of a confession as well - I want to spend more time with all the different Ranked Battle modes in Splatoon. I’d say 80% of my time with that game has been in Turf War. Honestly, I’m a little intimidated by Ranked Battle!
===June===
Krysta: I think a good strategy is to get all your gear in order first. Wait, what rank are you anyway!?
Squid Research Lab PSA: In case you missed it, we’re happy to announce that the upcoming 2.8.0 update, arriving the evening of June 7, will include 9 new weapon combos known as Sheldon’s Picks Vol.2. This update will also include some weapon balance adjustments, along with bug fixes.
Kit: B-, I think.
Please note that due to the update, server maintenance is scheduled to occur from 5:50 PM – 7 PM PT on Tue, June 7th.
Krysta: That’s not too bad. We’ll be checking in on 12/31/16 and I expect to see you at S+ by then!
Krysta: I have a feeling that people won’t be surprised that this is my resolution after watching [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrW_pyjjK6o&index=21&list=PL2JiZAV5BmDUhscQQ5oXsXaJhI-aT25r8 Super Mario Maker Sup-tember]: I’d like to get better at platforming in general. I think I’ve improved a bit, but I’d like to keep practicing.
----
Kit: You really did get better! I’ve actually heard a lot of people say that it seems like Super Mario Maker is just plain good at putting people through the wringer of all the tough stuff platformers can throw at you.
[[File:S Grim Range Blaster promo render.jpg|thumb|left|400px]]
Krysta: You’ve got a Super Mario Maker-related resolution as well, right?

Leading up to June 7, we’ll be counting down by previewing Sheldon’s new weapon combos one by one.
Kit: Yes. Most of the levels I’ve created were uploaded before the two big game updates hit and I’d really like to go back and add checkpoints and make a few improvements.
Introducing the Grim Range Blaster: a Range Blaster remodeled by Sheldon! Inklings have described it as “totally metal.” Between the Burst Bombs sub and the explosive main, it’s truly an aggressive set capable of dispatching opponents with frightening speed.
Krysta: And I think both of us would like to improve on our level making skills as well!
Kit: My last resolution was inspired by a game that came out last year - SteamWorld Heist. If you recall from our video about it, I mentioned that initially I felt a twinge of disappointment when it was announced because I really loved SteamWorld Dig and kind of just wanted more of that. But in the end I totally fell in love with SteamWorld Heist, and it ended up easily being one of my favorite games of the year.
----
Krysta: YES! I agree and we both beat it recently as well.
The Bento Splatterscope is a Bento Splat Charger with a scope added for long-range sniping. As Sheldon explains it: “This set suits (passive) aggressive squids who like to pick off opponents from a distance. Blammo!”
Kit: In hindsight it was silly for me to have that reaction, especially without having played the game. Clearly the developer was putting in a lot of effort to keep the series fresh and moving in new directions, and that really pays off in the game. So, my resolution is to be more open to change when series I hold dear go in a different direction than I expect.
All this bento talk is also making us super hungry for a bento box ourselves. [https://tinycartridge.com/post/125192628937 We found some online that look super fresh!]
Krysta: Well I will definitely hold you to that then. There will be punishment next time you pass judgement.
Krysta: I guess so…. hopefully they let us come back! Just a few last things for the readers, our latest Nintendo Minute on eShop games is live. Here’s the link in case you missed it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDD9f4HgQNA
The Bento Splat Charger features some weird green stuff Sheldon found washed up on a beach. We agree with Sheldon and think it’s pretty cool. It’s basically the same as the regular Splat Charger, but Sheldon amped up the defense with a Splash Wall. The Echolocator makes this set perfect for caring souls who love to support their teammates.
|content=The Custom Hydra Splatling makes its entrance tomorrow (1/15) at 6:00 pm PT. Put out fires for your allies from a safe distance with this water-hose like main weapon and the Sprinkler sub it comes with. If the action gets too hot, pop your Bubbler and get outta there!
|content=We should also mention that this is the last of the new weapons to be added. This makes 74 weapons in total! I'm sure you've got a few you've never tried, right? Sometimes, switching weapons can open up whole new strategies, so take a chance and try something new!
----
Please note that 3 weapons–Hero Shot Replica, Hero Charger Replica, and Hero Roller Replica—can only be obtained by completing amiibo Challenges and are not available from normal gameplay. In case you weren't aware: while they look funky fresh, these 3 weapons share the same statistics as their Splat series versions.
The N-ZAP ‘83 is an N-ZAP '85 that Sheldon modified to faithfully recreate a classic limited-edition piece. It’s so faithful, in fact, that players think the buttons might stick a bit sometimes… But that’s not a bug – it’s a feature, right? The Point Sensor and Kraken make for a set that is handy for cutting off your opponents’ advance.

|content=If you could travel to the future in a time machine, you'd see that Team Past took the win in this week's Splatfest. (If you could travel to the past in a time machine, you could pick the winning side to be on. Wait, if all of you did that it would probably rip a hole in the space-time continuum. WAIT, is there a space-time continuum or is it more wibbly wobbly timey wimey and stuff?)
|content=[Squid Research Lab PSA] A software update (Ver. 2.5.0) for Splatoon will be distributed this evening. Due to this update, the server will go under maintenance from 4:50 to 6:00pm PT, and the Splatoon service will not be available during this time. This update is mainly for minor updates. For details, visit http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14842/p/431
|content=A new stage, Ancho-V Games, is joining the rotation tomorrow (1/21) at 6:00 pm PT. The setting this time around is inside the offices of the developers of hit indie games like "Squid Jump." Keep an eye out for some of the jellyfish development team, hard at work (and under a strict NDA!) on their next title. Hope they don't mind the mess!
----
One feature of this stage are the PC-fan shaped propellers that can be inked to move portions of the floor. Use these to exploit the stage's verticality and gain the high ground over your opponents. What role do these things play in game development, anyway?
Check out the super sweet Cherry H-3 Nozzlenose. The Splash Wall sub weapon lets you leverage the great range of the main, while the Bubbler is perfect for turning the tables in a pinch.
'''VERTICAL''' 😍
As Sheldon puts it: “It’s super cute with its fruity color scheme and cherry-themed sticker!”
Also, this will be the last of the new stages to be added. Do you have any faves? You may find that you can change your impression of stages that aren't your favorite by changing the ways you move through them. Study the maps using the "Recon" mode and create your own patterns of attack. That will help you gain the advantage in any battle situation.
Kit: Today we’re going to cover a question that we get fairly frequently from Nintendo Minute viewers, which is “how the heck did the two of you get started doing this thing anyway?”
{{clr}}
<gallery>
Sploosh o matic 7 promo 2.jpg
Sploosh o matic 7 promo 3.jpg

{{clr}}
The Sploosh-o-matic 7 retains the stats of the original model while adding more strategic options. The short-range main has been bolstered by mid- and long-range sub and special weapons, allowing you to fight effectively at any distance.
Krysta: I sometimes ask myself the same question but I think the number one reason (at least for me) is we started Nintendo Minute because of one thing and one thing only; we love Nintendo games and we wanted to share that with you guys!
Kit: Yes, I feel very lucky that throughout my life I’ve been able to have friends around me who are also into games, and that I can talk to about games, because let’s be honest, it’s what we’re constantly thinking about. At the same time, I know there are people out there who may not be in the same position. You and I have had these sorts of discussions ever since we started at Nintendo, so it felt natural to translate them to video and share with everyone else. It’s also been a fun way to document my journey with facial hair! Please look forward to my Viking beard braid in 2017.
Krysta: We’re incredibly lucky to work at a company that really cultivates this type of environment and really encourages us to share our passion with all of you. And yes, it’s weird to see how different we look through the years. And there’s one more thing I want to bring up. We’re definitely not making these videos because we think we’re, like, game playing geniuses or something. But one thing for me that I’ve always believed in, is that you don’t have to be awesome at games to love them. In fact, I think I really suck at most games but it doesn’t make them any less fun for me to play them.
----
Kit: Our failed dreams of eSports glory aside, Nintendo Minute has really brought us closer to the Nintendo fan community, whether it’s meeting people at events or reading comments (we read them all!). I love how there’s such a circular relationship.
The CoroCoro Splat Roller is decorated with a rad logo Sheldon found inscribed on some ancient writings. The way Sheldon describes it:
Kit: This post is too cordial…I…I…don’t know what to do next.
: It has a new hollow-titanium frame, ball-bearing joints, steering dampers, super stabilizers… So many new parts, in fact, that it kind of… came full circle. The specs ended up identical to the Splat Roller.
Krysta: How about, go check out our latest video on one of my fave games of all time; The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. Talk to you guys later!
But the addition of Splash Walls combined with the powerful Inkzooka make this set full of exciting new possibilities.
Meet the Heavy Splatling Remix. It’s not a remix to your favorite headbanger - It’s, uh, a remixed version of the Heavy Splatling. Warm up the crowd with the Sprinkler sub and then drown ‘em out with the devastating Killer Wail for an encore.
The Aerospray PG is best described as a little update to the Aerospray MG that Sheldon built from his grandpappy’s blueprints. No matter how you describe it, it’s definitely a hand-crafted work of art. Burst Bombs help claim turf and the Kraken crushes enemy defenses.
Don’t forget that Sheldon’s Picks Vol. 2 are coming tonight! In addition to weapons, we forgot to mention that a couple pieces of gear will also drop: the CoroCoro Cap and CoroCoro Hoodie! These new pieces of gear are in collaboration with CoroCoro Comic in Japan. Once the game is updated, don’t forget to check out Cooler Heads and Jelly Fresh!
[PSA] The Splatoon server will be under maintenance from around 4 PM PT - 7 PM PT today, and the online service may not be available during this time. We appreciate your understanding.
Also, we don’t forget to pick up your Super Sea Snails from Splatfest (once the servers are back up!)

We’ve had 15 inkredible Splatfests so far! While the good times in Inkopolis will continue to roll on, the next Splatfest will be… drumroll, please… the final Splatfest.
Time and time again, we’ve heard you pledge allegiance not to your favorite team choice, but to your favorite Squid Sister. Now, it’s time to show your support in the Squid Sisters Showdown! The theme is: Are you Team Callie or Team Marie?
The showdown begins at 2 AM PT on Friday, July 22, until 2 AM PT on Sunday, July 24. This will be the last Splatfest extravaganza, and we’d like everyone to have a blast!
The last Splatfest will be taking place (almost) at the same time in all regions. However the matchups will be different – the players in Japan will be matched up with those in Japan, and the players in North America and Europe will be matched up with each other. The Top 100 Players will also be tallied and announced separately for Japan region and for North America and Europe regions. Though the results will be collected from all regions, they will be combined together and announced at the same time.
In-game announcement and voting will start at 7 PM PT on Monday, July 4. Until then, please prepare yourself for the hardest decision you’ll make in your lifetime by doing some soul searching, going on a walkabout, meditating or just reading Squid Sisters fan fiction.
Oh yeah, we forgot to mention one thing! The last Splatfest stages will be decided based on your votes! Please vote using the email being sent to Splatoon players with Nintendo Network IDs…coming to inboxes soon! The vote ends on Tuesday, July 12th.
Leading up to the last Splatfest, the Art Academy Miiverse community is hosting the “Best of the ‘fests Drawing Event!” Take a stroll down memory lane and celebrate all of YOUR favorite moments from Splatfests past! Create a drawing showing your favorite Splatfest memory and join in the fun on Miiverse! Some artwork will be displayed here at the Squid Research Lab, and might even be included in a video we’re working on.

We’ve just received this dispatch straight from Paris! Callie and Marie are preparing for their concert at Japan Expo by taking in the beautiful sights of the city.
Overnight, a new software update was released for Splatoon – Version 2.10.0. This update fixed an issue during multiplayer matches in which players were appearing to float in space outside the stage terrain. Awkward!
For more information on the software update, check out details [https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14842#v2100 here]. You can also catch up on Version 2.9.0 updates, which include new amiibo support!
Today marks the day that Callie & Marie amiibo figures are available! Tapping them in turns Inkopolis Plaza into a live concert performance, and you can select from different songs. Each Squid Sister has a unique solo song, Bomb Rush Blush and Tide Goes Out, respectively.

We just received transmission that a Splatoon event is being planned for Chicago the weekend of July 30-31, organized by some friends of the Squid Research Lab. Hosted at the Ignite Gaming Lounge in Chicago, they’re bringing 2 days of various games, events, and fun, and it will be streamed by EndGameTV. Pledge your allegiance to Team Callie or Team Marie with this nifty printable alternative box art!
UPDATE: Eagle-eyed supporters of Team Marie spotted a huge mistake on the alternate box art we posted earlier. The spine of the boxart was accidentally a purple squid, which should in fact be a green squid, as well as an errant purple drop shadow. This has been corrected below. We suspect our intern Milton thought he was being sneaky with his Callie bias. If you are supporting Team Marie, please feel free to download the '''*correct*''' art. And for best results, print on legal-sized paper.
SPOTTED: The Squid Sisters have returned home from their trip to perform at Japan Expo. Judging from the luggage tags, I’d say they’ve been having fun with Splatfest.
Less than 24 hours for Splatfest, and things are heating up for Team Callie & Team Marie! As the clock struck 2 AM PT last night, you may have noticed the Splatfest battle music changed. Yep, that heavenly melody is the one and only Calamari Inkantation!
Results of the 16th and Final Splatfest has concluded and drumroll… victory for team Marie. The result of the Splatfest Top 100 Players will be shared soon!
The final Splatfest may be officially over, but Callie and Marie have beaming smiles on their faces. Remember, exciting battles in Regular Battle, Ranked Battle, Squad Battle and Private Battle modes still continue!
As for us at the Squid Research Lab, we’ll continue our investigation and research, updating you with our findings about all the latest news around Inkopolis. Stay tuned and stay fresh!

Last but not least, it sounds like Judd’s getting a little more generous, and the bonus points given to the victory in Regular Battle will increase from now on. Thanks Judd! Also, a rumor says that he may even give you a small reward if you keep battling… Check it out to see what might happen!
Thanks to everyone who participated in the [http://splatoonus.tumblr.com/post/147253264749 Best of the ‘Fests Drawing Event ]on Miiverse! We had a such a good time looking at all your drawings!

If the action gets too hot, pop your Bubbler and get outta there! #Splatoon #SquidLab #Nintendo #WiiU #Weapons #THE FINAL WEAPON
We should also mention that this is the last of the new weapons to be added. This makes 74 weapons in total! I'm sure you've got a few you've never tried, right? Sometimes, switching weapons can open up whole new strategies, so take a chance and try something new!
#Splatoon #SquidLab #Nintendo #WiiU #Weapons
If you could travel to the future in a time machine, you'd see that Team Past took the win in this week's Splatfest. (If you could travel to the past in a time machine, you could pick the winning side to be on. Wait, if all of you did that it would probably rip a hole in the space-time continuum. WAIT, is there a space-time continuum or is it more wibbly wobbly timey wimey and stuff?) #Splatoon #Squidlab #Nintendo #Wii U #Splatfest #TEAM PAST #TEAM FUTURE
[Squid Research Lab PSA] A software update (Ver. 2.5.0) for Splatoon will be distributed this evening. Due to this update, the server will go under maintenance from 4:50 to 6:00pm PT, and the Splatoon service will not be available during this time. This update is mainly for minor updates. A new stage, Ancho-V Games, is joining the rotation tomorrow (1/21) at 6:00 pm PT. The setting this time around is inside the offices of the developers of hit indie games like "Squid Jump." Keep an eye out for some of the jellyfish development team, hard at work (and under a strict NDA!) on their next title. Hope they don't mind the mess!
One feature of this stage are the PC-fan shaped propellers that can be inked to move portions of the floor. Use these to exploit the stage's verticality and gain the high ground over your opponents. What role do these things play in game development, anyway?
HORIZONTAL 😯
VERTICAL 😍
Also, this will be the last of the new stages to be added. Do you have any faves? You may find that you can change your impression of stages that aren't your favorite by changing the ways you move through them. Study the maps using the "Recon" mode and create your own patterns of attack. That will help you gain the advantage in any battle situation.
Do whatever it takes to make your time battling as fun as possible! The good times don't end here, friends! #splatoon #squidlabs #nintendo #nomoremaps #nomoreweapons #ithinkimoutofajob #idliketoconnectoninkedin #justkiddingwe'llstillposthere
Kit: After last week’s “friendly debate” over amiibo displays, I think we need to move on to cheerier territory.
Krysta: Yes, I’m still mad at you but I’m willing to put that aside while we write this blog post.
Kit: Today we’re going to cover a question that we get fairly frequently from Nintendo Minute viewers, which is “how the heck did the two of you get started doing this thing anyway?”
Kit: Our failed dreams of eSports glory aside, Nintendo Minute has really brought us closer to the Nintendo fan community, whether it’s meeting people at events or reading comments (we read them all!). I love how there’s such a circular relationship.
Krysta: Well now I think you’re scaring them…
Kit: This post is too cordial…I…I…don’t know what to do next.
Krysta: How about, go check out our latest video on one of my fave games of all time; The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. Talk to you guys later! #Nintendo #Nintendo Minute #Mario Kart #Super Mario Maker #Splatoon #The Legend of Zelda
