Agent 3 approaching a large crate.

Crates are boxes which appear in Splatoon's single-player mode, Octo Valley. Crates may contain Power Eggs, Sunken Scrolls, Armor, Canned Specials, or nothing at all. Crates are also found in Two-player balloon battles, where they contain Canned Specials.

Description

Crates are common features found both in Octo Valley and Battle Dojo. They appear in four varieties: small and plain, small and decorated, large and plain, and large and decorated. Plain crates are made of light brown wooden planks, while decorated crates are made of darker orange planks and covered in insignias and stickers. Crates often appear solo, in groups, or stacked, and may even support Octarians perched on top.

Crates can be destroyed easily by being splattered with ink. When broken, decorated crates may reveal collectibles such as Power Eggs and Sunken Scrolls, while plain crates contain nothing.

Appearances

As they would most likely to appear with a Sardinium or Sunken Scrolls, the armored crates also appear to be a regular crate with nothing inside when broken, such as the path block of finding the kettle for Sunset Octocopter which has an armored crate attempting to block the path.

Armored crates

Armored crates can be seem in Octo Canyon in Splatoon 2. This crate is different than a normal crate because it takes more ink to get the crate destroyed. The crate seems to be armored with tape attached to the crate.

Salmon Run

During the Mothership, Chinooks will fly around the stage dropping a white crate. The crate has blue lights flashing inside, but will turn into a shade of red overtime once placed. Once it shades red, a common Salmonid will jump out of the crate. They will keep spawning inside the crate until the crate is destroyed. The crates can be destroyed very easily.

Trivia

  • Decorated crates possess the Cuttlegear logo.
  • Octarians can destroy crates with their own ink. If there are Power Eggs inside them and the Octarian destroys it, the player will not receive the Power Eggs.
    • In Octo Canyon, The Octarians ink doesn't effect the decorated crates, but can damage the normal crates.
