Save Scumming is a term used by the community, to go to an older save data if you're not happy with the results of your gear Abilities and Rank.
The Wii U console allows you to copy or move data from your system memory to USB data so you can have backup data. Save Scumming requires copying your data to USB drive and the USB drive or the System memory will be your backup data to go back to. There are many methods of Save Scumming to get different results.
Re-rolls at Spyke

Re-rolling slots of gear at Spyke.
Method
- Save your Splatoon data to your USB drive.
- (If you decide to leave your USB plugged-in you'll start Splatoon at your USB drive data so the system memory will be your backup data. If you decide not to plug your USB drive in, your USB drive will be your backup data)
- Go to Spyke and re-roll slots on gear that you'd want good abilities on.
- Once you got the desired abilities save your data to your backup data so you can keep that gear with the abilities.
- If you lose lots of cash or get bad re-rolls just go to your backup data and copy it to your other data.
